You ever driven down to Florida and the notorious speed traps where they happily pull you over for 3mph over the speed limit?

It's a simple rule and easily enforced.  Just do it (and watch how quick teams adapt).

I have. Many times. When they start giving teams 3 seconds, get back to me.

  2. Seriously, do you get a ticket every time you exceed the speed limit by 1 MPH? No. The cops give you a little leeway. If you drive 55 in a school zone that's flagrant and you're going down.

Same thing applies here. They're not going to let you get away with like 3 seconds, but 1 is okay.

I listen to Joe Marino too (love his podcast) and I was surprised to hear that JA's INT % basically remained the same.  I think it's just as important to consider fumbles (total and lost) because Josh definitely seems to be fumbling more than last year.

4 more turnovers than last year over 17 games. Not a big deal, but yes, 4 more. I just don’t see a major change in the way Josh is playing. I really like the risk/reward return, honestly. He threw for more yards and scored more TDs than last year along the way.

After watching our #1 defense get shredded with 13 seconds left, I could care less about stats & analytics. The only thing that matters to me IS the smell & eye test.

Still living that old nightmare, are we?

  6. I find the constant strain of "we suck" to be annoying. But, what are you going to do. Facts and stats mean nothing. Apparently the smell test or the eye test of the fan base takes all precedence. I think it is beyond ridiculous.

If you don't like Leslie's D then that's okay. But the players are not underachieving busts and they certainly don't suck. They are playing exactly as Leslie wants them to play. The on-field performance says that it works pretty darned well.

It's also worth pointing out that the announce team ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE BUFFALO BILLS.

Yes and I will tell you that team management does not micro-manage their on-air talent. They might pick people who see things their way, but then they're left alone. At least that is how it was when I was working. They can release you at the end of your contract or suspend you, but that's all.

This is different with the in-house folks that do the buffalobills.com content and marketing hype videos, but not with the on-air people. It just became a conspiracy theory around here during the drought. There are no teeth to this supposition.

No secret ownership didn’t care for some in the local media when they took over.

Not that they’d admit wanting yes men doing their media, but they do.

No doubt Chris Brown has earned their favor.

I never felt that any sports franchise wants "yes men". In all my years in sports broadcasting I never saw that. I can tell you that at every level from local to network, the best talent always knew to keep things positive or to keep their mouths shut. Knowing who is buttering your bread means everything to your future.

If a reporter keeps throwing people under the bus, nobody is going to talk to them, at least not with regard to inside information. If instead you always put a positive spin on a player, coach or manager, then they'll be happy to share hints of what is going on behind the curtain. This is a fact in all of pro sports.

You are never going to see a "Jerry Sullivan type" get ahead in sports reporting. NEVER. They'll eventually end up with all the doors closed and reporting exclusively opinion pieces not based on real fact. There's just nobody left to get info from.

  9. Hodgins has great hands. That's why we kept him around through injury and roster limitations. Ultimately, his own limitations with regard to speed and ST prowess or lack thereof, cost him any chance to see significant playing time on the Bills. He'd still be on our PS if not for the Giants' opportunity.

Look, it is my understanding that even a number of higher end Falcons season tickets holders will get dibs on tickets for this game.

I know a guy.  He's actually a prince...a prince of a guy, really.  He has access to 50 yard line and suite level tickets for the AFC Championship game, but he's fallen on a little bit of hard times.  If someone is just able to send him $2,000 per ticket (he has access to 10) it will help him get his feet under himself.

The good news is the tickets would only actually be $250 a piece and you would get all your extra money back, which would be a steal for a Bills AFC Championship game, but again, to get things situated now it is going to have to be the $20,000 for the 10 tickets, up front. This guy would be very grateful and take you out to dinner in Atlanta on the Saturday night before the game, on him, if you are in town.

This is too sweet a deal to pass up and I am only telling you guys about it so please don't blow this thing up.

I'll forward the e-mail to all interested parties for this too good to be true Bills championship game opportunity a little later.

Maybe he knows my Nigerian friend with unclaimed lottery tickets?

These days football is all about weird camera angles, pushing the pile like a rugby scrum, waiting 5 seconds into the play to see if it’ll be blown dead because a coach actually called timeout, waiting 5 seconds after the play clock hits zero to see if they will call delay of game, etc.

Right!  They're slowly getting the broadcasts to the point where it looks just like Madden. Eventually, it will include interactive play calling.

  12. Wide-nine D was new at the time he was here. It surprised a lot of teams and was a special wrinkle at the time. I'm not so sure anyone will be surprised by it next season. The key to our success at that time was Jerry and Mario in their prime. Other teams use wide-nine at times these days.

We ought to see what new wrinkle he can come up with this time before we regret that we didn't get him to replace Leslie.

I’m sick of Lamar at this point. I absolutely think he’s dragging out this injury due to the contract situation. He’s looking out for himself, and himself only… right, wrong or indifferent.

As for Lamar the player, I may get flamed for this, but I just don’t think he’s that good. I think he’s dangerous… but not a great QB. I wouldn’t give him anywhere close to Josh/Mahomes type money.

Above all said, Sammy should keep his mouth shut.  Not his place to publicly call out anyone.

I agree with your sentiment, but you can’t say he shouldn’t get $220+M. It’s more than Josh/Mahomes now. It’s Watson/Kyler, et al. If it was just Josh & The Rat then okay. However, more mistakes have been made forcing even more to be made in trying to pay players into greatness. It simply will never work that way because the difference between great and very good has nothing to do with money.

In this case, I expect Lamar will end up going downhill from here. He just put money ahead of his drive to become great.
