  1. "Trent Edwards played poorly in Buffalo's exhibition opener, but we'll guess that this mostly has to do with noodle-armed backup Ryan Fitzpatrick."

Not sure what this means exactly. Trent played bad because Fitz has a noodle arm? Maybe Trent isn't motivated and is slagging back because he knows there's no way a noodle arm guy can take his spot? Trent played poorly? I thought he played pretty well until the pick. It's preseason. Hopefully the early game picks, and picks in general will diminish as he gets more practice with the new system and guys.

But if they are sniffing around, I feel good about that. Not sold on Fitz yet. I mean he hasn't even done well enough yet to start TSW QB controversy yet. Maybe if Reed had caught that TD pass, THAT WAS THROWN IN A BAD SPOT ...

    fixed

  2. Maybin is due to be one of the highest paid Bills. My question is when do we say " Well we can't use you this year anyway, so you can stay home as long as you want. Have fun Aaron, I hope it was worth it!".

I would even consider letting hime re-enter the draft if that is what he wants. The Bills can use his contract money towards a free agent in 2010.

I refrained from reading this thread as long as I could. I broke down and wish I never read it.

Some fan never cease to amaze me

  3. Bruce did a great job in his speech tonight- it was just about a perfect Bills evening at the HOF. However, no one mentioned a teammate who was a big part of the last sniff the Bills had of the playoffs, with Smith, Reed and Thomas still on the team. The one who enabled the Bills to "circle the wagons" on offense for what was the last time for that group of players (minus Kelly, who had retired).

I mean of course the Diminutive One, Doug Flutie.

I remember one game where Flutie ran for a TD on a broken play toward the end of the season to win a game, and Bruce picked him up on the sidelines like a ragdoll. I think Paul Maguire said something like, "Bruce has children bigger than Flutie". Euphoria. Berman. Wagons circling again.

The last good time this organization had in 10 years was when Flutie was on the team with Smith & Co. Why no mention?

    (Ignorant dwarf jokes begin...now)

I can't believe you actually took the time to write that. Doug Flutie, lol. What a joke

  4. Just watched America's Game-The Lost Rings 1990 Buffalo Bills on NFL Network

I tried to will that friggin ball through the uprights but it was still wide right. By the time the show was over I was in tears as if it was live. 18 1/2 years later and it STILL HURTS!!!

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Fitz is a very capable backup, if he was any better we wouldn't even have him as a backup because he would be starting and probably deserves to be, Fitz finished last season with three straight wins. We are lucky to have him in my opinion.

you obviously haven't seen him play.

  6. Why? Are you too good to join a discussion already in progress?

    get a life.

    your annoying.

I can't understand why someone would waste their time bashing people that don't use the search function before making a new thread. I don't think I've ever used it before creating one. And now, I will make a point not too. Usually when someone makes a thread, they have something on their mind, and want to get it off their chest. If an admin wants to close it, so be it. Get over yourself fruitcake

  7. I was there as well. I thought it was -44 with the wind chill. I was 17 at the time, so idk.

Cary Blanchard was the jets kicker...If I remember correctly, he missed 2-3 fg's. It clinched the division/playoff spot. We surely snatched victory from the jaws of defeat that afternoon.

  8. 9. Other than the offense running the no huddle almost 100% of the time, there was really only 1 other thing that stood out. The offensive line. And they stood out NOT IN A GOOD WAY. They allowed 4-5 would-be sacks today and were getting schooled by the D-Line and blitzes that were sent. During the morning practice they looked pretty good, but in the afternoon, they were getting to the QBs on a regular basis and the O-Line did not have a good session. Wood and Levitre should easily make the starting lineup if today was any indication. The O-Line was bad in the afternoon especially.

    10. We may be desperately looking for a backup QB that can play sooner rather than later. Outside of Edwards, who had a pretty good day, the other QBs in camp were TERRIBLE!!!!! Fitz and GH couldn't hit the broadside of a barn today. They were terrible. I hope it was just a bad day, but they looked completely out of place. I am more concerned now about the backup QB position than I originally thought I was. Trent did look good, throwing only a couple of bad balls, but the backups were awful.

that sums up our season. We may have great weapons, but we can't utilize them unless we can block...and trent stays healthy. I just don't see both of those things happening....but I can't wait to see if we can!!

    Go Bills!!!

  9. Has anyone said he wasn't good? The discussion was on if he was WOF-worthy.

Of all the responses out there, you had to try and flame mine?? lol.

    "well said.

still my favorite bill of all-time. He was a special back. Those that don't believe, don't know much about football, or havent really seen him play"

^^^^ was my quote you decide to flame...

I never said people were saying he wasnt good... people in this thread likened him to travis henry, ronnie harmon, greg bell. He was a better RB than all 3 of those guys by far. You can bring up all the numbers you wanna look at...I look at the player and what he did on the field. He was special. An electric back. Whether or not he was WoF worthy....wasnt even mentioned in my post. I simply think he was an amazing player. Ralph Wilson, and his treatment of Cribbs' contract situation is the reason some people downplay how good he was. Either that, or they never say him play, or don;t know football, as expressed previously.

  10. Cribbs was more than very good...in my cognizant Bills lifetime (1972-on) I would rank him behind only OJ Simpson, and pretty equal with Thurman.

People who look solely at stats to judge a player aren't getting the whole picture. The way Cribbs was handled in Buffalo (in fact the way the whole squad was handled) by the owner in the early 1980's is a big part of the reason that many who have been around a little longer weren't losing any sleep at the prospect of Mr Wilson not making it to the Hall Of Fame.

Those were the best teams the Bills had since the AFL Championship days, but the owner pretty much alienated everyone involved. People remember Cribbs taking his services to the USFL, but he only did it, after fulfilling his contractal obligation to the Bills (playing his ass off his entire lame duck season), because he could. He was talanted enough to have that option. Guys like Smerlas and Haslett pissed and moaned about their salaries constantly, but people forget that. Cribbs went to the USFL, played three pro football seasons in two, led the USFL in rushing, and then, when the USFL folded, had to return to the Bills, if he wanted to play. He was beat up at that point, but played hard, the limited amount of time he was given the field.

Cribbs was sort of a pre-curser to guys like Thurman, a great combination of speed, strenghth, football intelligence... beyond being a hell of a runner, he was a great receiver too, in an era where pass catching RB's wasn't very common.

Cribbs won't go on the Wall of Fame, because you can't put everyone there, and, because as great as he was, he didn't play long enough for the Bills to belong there...but make no mistake, he was a great running back, not just good...

    well said.

still my favorite bill of all-time. He was a special back. Those that don't believe, don't know much about football, or havent really seen him play

  11. Why is it crazy that another NFL team hasn't expressed interest in JP? If our recent coaching woes are the reason JP has struggled, you would think that non-woeful coach would be more than happy to take him under his wing.

Or maybe the non-woeful coaches recognize the same thing our woeful coaches do. JPs game is flawed. Always has been and can not be corrected

have you seen ryan fitzpatrick play? Its a wonder anyone signed him.....we did

  12. Well I think Boss Bailey and Derrick Brooks are both available so while chances are slim that they will sign its still a possibility that we can bring in a OLB to replace Ellison. My ideal choice for OLB is Boss Bailey he is good when healthy I think it is worth taking a chance on the guy because even if he gets injured its worth taking the chance on a possible upgrade at a position of weakness.

First off, he's rarely healthy. Secondly, Even when healthy, he's not very good. Average player at best. much like Keith Ellison, but his brother is a stud, so people overrate him.

  13. Back in May, I remember Scooby comparing the 2009 Bills to the 1999 Rams. I too see the similarities and agree with him. I can't wait to see our players holding up the Vince Lombardi trophy in Miami at the end of this season.

ummmm, similar....somewhat. Minus Orlando Pace.....all of a sudden not so similar

  14. I'm one of the biggest Bills fans around, been following the team since 1969. I am tired of we will get them next year. We probably need new team ownership, but that equals team leaves Buffalo. Dick Jauron seems like a nice guy, but you have to win games. I moved to Pittsburgh just under 1 year ago and guess what?? Stanley cup and Lombardi already!!! I was hollering at the TV when Santonio Holmes caught the Superbowl winner. So now i have two teams, believe me not a bad way to go

no, now you have 1 team. enjoy the black and gold

  15. In the words of the immortal Vince Lombardi, "What the hell is goin' on out there.".....in Denver?? They are about to give up on the 17th overall pick in the '07 draft because of their defensive "scheme"?? Fine by me. I just hope the Bills can get him into OBD for a look before another team signs him up!

don't know much about football do ya?"

  16. I don't feel he's a terrible player. I think he was our best o-lineman, though maybe not last year. I thought he was average. As far as "sour grapes" comment, I think that's off-base. He rubbed us the wrong way because he was asking for money than we think he's worth. His holdout lasted too long and he's just a greedy sob. He doesn't deserve 10 mill a year, he's lucky Andy Reid is good enoughto make him look worth it.

  17. this is probably the most negative post on here. first you say TO is an !@#$ even though you don't know him and there is probably information that most don't know about each of his previous teams(thats not to say that owens is not a disturbance but to call someone an !@#$ based on that is stupid). you then go on about how much ralph is a cheapskate throw in some crappy scenario that you think will happen and top it all off with the fact that you think this is the "silver lining". THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A SKOOBY THREAD!

do i think jauron is a good coach...i don't know. has he made some bad calls...i guess but when you think of all the weird things(in terms of bad draft picks and injury) i would say he could have done worse. sure we were 4-0 last year, but i think us tanking it was more because of the fact that edwards was injured and losman played  and the year before that i believe we had like 17 guys on IR or some rediculous thing. even though we have had three 7-9 seasons i don't believe that firing him is the answer because where does it end, phillips, williams maularki(spelled wrong don't care)...where does it end. having said that i believe that jauron definately needs to show improvement now that those excuses are a thing of the past because i think we have a legitemate playoff roster and if we don't get in or are at least competitive, i would start looking elsewhere in the coaching dept.

I'm not a fan of the thread, but your post, while optimistic...is incredibley nieve. Dj sucks. He should have been fired. Accept it and move on. He's a nice guy and could possibly make a good db coach, but he can't lead an NFL team to the promised land. If a hc can't lead a team to the promised land, why would he be a hc?
