What’s the story about that one? Before my time, but never heard that one.

FWIW, I had a little bit of a DM exchange with John Brown earlier this season...I had asked him a question about an instagram comment he made about the "Sports Conveyer Belt" and he explained and we chatted a little bit about it.
He was expressing fundamentally the same concern you outline above - that some colleges offer young athletes (particularly young athletes from single parent homes) a lot of material inducements to come play for that team. But it only lasts while their athletic talent can be "mined" from that team, then they get tossed aside, while not being set up for success in any other avenue of lifeI don't know which programs or teams he had in mind but from other things he posts he has several young relatives being recruited or about to be recruited and it's apparently a current concern
My experience with these guys was heartbreaking. Good guys who were caught up being the ‘big men on campus’...believing they could do no wrong.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way for them and they ended up doing labor work. Incredible athletes and intelligent young men relegated to the dust heap.

When I was down south I had quite a few guys work in my organization that had burned out at Alabama. The story was the same every time: they were treated like gold and all else was washed away. While I’m sure that’s intoxicating at the time, it sets these kids up for failure long term.
My time there was pre-Saban so maybe it changed there. I hope.

I love the idea of a paywall the more I think about it. Many here complain about paying for The Athletic or BN...seriously? You won’t pay for people’s work? Ask a plumber or HVAC person to your house and then stiff them. How does that work out?
This entire argument is just silly. Asking for cash to participate in a board as active and good as this is only fair. Not to mention keeping the trolls at bay. Sign me up.

Are logged-in members seeing ads on the forum?
Despite being logged in, I show ads to myself so I know what is being shown and where.
I only see the pop ups on my work PC where I am not logged in. This is NOT a big deal.- 1

How about this? Pay for access. God forbid we have to click through one ad! Oh the humanity!!!
This thread is poor form at best.

Just coming out of a bad decade and then, after a small blip of good football, right back to bad football.
So glad the Pegula era is with us. I was so sick of it after the two two win seasons. Just terrible.

When did that happen?
College. It was his MO.I don’t view him as the missing piece (not the Shel Silverstein ‘Missing Piece’ as that would be weird 😃) but an effective RB. With that being said, I do NOT want a first round RB.

I appreciate this program but it appears as though they’re looking for a diamond in the rough. The vast majority will be enough for underdog loving people (like myself) to root for them but not much will happen, I suspect.

I’ll tell you what: McKenzie is class through and through. I will ALWAYS root for him to be a part of this team.
On top of that, my kind of humor! 😃

Personally, I love the sight lines of Rich as well as the location. I also love the tailgating and ticket prices. Should they build new all of that will radically change which isn’t appealing to me.
The flip side is I hate the weather in the latter part of the year...I’m not 20 anymore.
With all of that being said I lean towards keeping Rich.
-
Not particularly fond of it but good for them for scoring the cash.
It will remain either Rich or The Ralph for me.

I always love a redemption story. Glad he’s doing well.

I believe the change to the cap is going to be more measured. From what I’ve read, it will jump up to $200m next year...not even where it was last year.
With that being said, I suspect you’re right that it will be crazier than normal...certainly more so than this year.

I'm telling u he will. You'll see. Don't forget what the media was saying about Josh 1 year ago.
You heard it here first, TBD!!!! 😃 -
I vacillated on DE vs LB who can cover but chose DE since if the pressure is provided, it will give our LB’s a much higher probability of winning those matchups.
After those CB.

Is it a reasonable comparison given Smoke’s health issues this year? I’m wondering if looking at other years would yield significantly different metrics.
Just wondering.

Diggs and Josh. The instant chemistry. To go from never having had a WR lead the league in yards and receptions to having Stef do it year one...not so shockingly corresponding with Josh’s breakout season...was a thing of beauty to watch.
Also Stef watching the KC celebration. Says so much to me about him.

Perhaps Rondale Moore?
Just saw a blurb somewhere (can’t find it now) that compared Moore to Steve Smith.
Steve Smith (formerly Carolina Panther).......................McDermott/Beane Carolina connection
Definitely seems to be the same type of player. I’m not too familiar with him. -
I’d very much like Beane to figure out a way to keep him...or upgrade. Not sure about the latter at this point unless they have someone pegged in the draft.

Correction, he now has 2 years football experience actuallyI think he’s got a legit shot to make the roster, assuming he’s been showing the staff he’s picked it up enough thus far. Problem is, we don’t really have any information on how far along he is, so it’s all speculative really.
Yup, this is where I am. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see him at all last ‘preseason’. There is a possibility he advanced quite a bit from year one.
I will be interested to either see him play in preseason or hear what McD or Daboll say about him.

I watched the much-hyped USC vs UCLA game when Rosen and Darnold were Seniors and came away unimpressed by either.
Agreed. I was never overly impressed with either one of them in college...or now.

I don’t look at it that way. They knew they were responsible but they are bailed out doing things most of us have done when we were young thus the culture leads them down the path of, ‘there’s always an out’.
It’s important to recognize what these young men mean to larger schools from a financial standpoint.
All of them knew they had a chance and lost it.
