  1. Very Impressive video, his speed and instincts look great!!!

never hurts to point up a potential player, thanks

Of course! Hoping the kid can make a good transition to the pros.

Not like it is terribly impressive, but after completing a drill that went great during his pro day, Burris did a standing backflip which drew the loudest cheers from the SDSU pro day.

  2. Well I realize the video clip you linked were his highlights so they might misrepresent a bit how good the kid is.

So I tracked down some video of him playing last year against a very strong TCU team QB'd by Andy Dalton.

The video shows all his plays in the game (good and bad) and you can tell he's improved quite a bit as a player between now and then.

I'd like to track down more video of the guy but he looks like he could be a special player.

    youtube.com/watch?v=LSNwGJXdohY

    Right.

Obviously he has a large room for improvement, but he has shown a great deal of playmaking ability, dedication and nose for the football and seems to never give up on plays.

There's a reason why he is not a round 1-4 type of player, but anyone in the later rounds can surprise in the NFL.

  3. I guess you guys didn't watch any of Burris' video.

If you did, those names wouldn't be coming to your minds.

This guy is an exceptional athlete with a non-stop motor.

Not only does his tape show very well but his times from the combine and his pro day are very exceptional.

And he plays much faster than he times.

I don't think I've ever seen a linebacker run down more plays in backside pursuit.

At least someone else here has a good eye for talent.

    Good comments sjbf

  4. Sorry to have posted no information but his name before.

I have a couple of good friends who go to SDSU and for the last couple of years have been raving about this linebacker there, Miles Burris.

    Burris pic: http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~cba/news-online/11-Sept/Burris.jpg

Burris is a linebacker from California (6-2, 245) who played for SDSU.

As a junior, Burris was named to the all-MWC first team while also being the Mountain West's sack and tackles-for-a-loss leader (2010). He recorded team-leading totals in tackles (80), tackles for a loss (20) and sacks (9.5).

Leading into the 2011 campaign in what was his senior year, Burris was the fourth Aztec to be named to the preseason Lombardi Watch list which includes current Bills' linebacker, Kirk Morrison (2003 and 2004).

As an FYI, the annual Rotary Lombardi Award honors the top lineman in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Eligibility for the award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.

On to 2011: Burris was once again selected to the All-Mountain West Conference First Team for a second straight year (voters include the eight head coaches and a select media panel). He is the first Aztec to do so since, you guessed it, Kirk Morrison (2002-2004).

The senior leads the Aztecs in tackles (72), tackles for loss (19.0), sacks (8.0) and fumble recoveries (3). He ranks eighth in the country in tackles for a loss (1.58/g), tied for 19th in fumble recoveries (0.25/g) and tied for 32nd in sacks (0.67/g). Burris has at least 0.5 tackles for a loss in 18 of the past 19 games. - San Diego State football

Misc. points: he was captain of the Aztecs his senior year, he is a four-time MWC all-academic honoree and was the SDSU student-athlete of the year in 2010 and 2011.

The kid is bright, he's fast, explosive and physical.

For the YouTube lovers, I have a link below to some highlights.

    ENJOY TWO BILLS DRIVE!

P.S. Note all his reverse stops! I feel like the Bills got killed on many reverses in 2010 and 2011, this kids got it down.

  5. Ummmmm.. you watch every play he runs and you look to see his route running, his breaks, his speed, his separation, his ability to get open, his hands, his leaping ability, his ability to track the ball in the air, his fight for the ball, his understanding of defenses, the strength of his hands, his ability to find the seams, his willingness to go over the middle, his footwork, his ability on the sidelines, his knack for making a big play, his blocking, then talk to his coaches and the coaches that played against him, talk to him about his understanding of the game and defenses, his locker room presence, his knowledge of football and his want to be the best player, his work ethic, work him out with running routes and going for the ball when you bring him to Buffalo, check out the combine numbers and wonderlic, figure out the need for your team of a big strong WR who can get down the field and make a play once in awhile and a complement to the other 5-6 weapons (which is exactly what he is), figure out all the different views from various scouts looking at the same stuff and then compare that grade versus other players at his position who have had 200 more passes thrown to them against players at other positions.

Then you may have a pretty good guess.

People seem to like Marcus Easley here, myself included, and no one seems to worry about his college production, just his health. He caught 53 balls in his college career.

We're still talking about the number 10 overall selection though.

I actually like Stephen Hill, its just its crazy to think someone can catch under 50 passes in his career and be a thought for a top 10 draft spot.

  6. Miles Burris.

From SDSU, this kid is prime.

  7. My mock draft is as follows:

    1.) LB Melvin Ingram

    2.) TE Coby Fleener

    3.) OT Mitchell Schwartz/Bobby Massie

    4a.) CB Leonard Johnson

    4b.) WR Jeff Fuller

    5a.) QB Ryan Lindley

    5b.) WR Tommy Streeter

    6.) DT Akiem Hicks

    7a.) WR Marquis Maze

    7b.) LB Miles Burris

  8. alt. pick Stephen Hill, WR - Georgia Tech; May be a reach at 10, but I can't get over this kids physical tools (stop with the "lack of production" bs...he was in a Triple Option O and still averaged 29.2YPC)

Did you ever stop to think why the YPC was so high? When an offense like GT is 70% run game and 30% passing, when you do throw the ball the other team is surprised, allowing Hill to earn extra YPC.

I'm not knocking any of his "potential" or ability, but the facts are facts. He only caught 49 passes in his ENTIRE college career! How do you evaluate a guy like that and then say that you would take him #10 overall? Name one other wide receiver taken in the top 10 who had less than 50 career college catches.

  9. After Martin's Pro Day and questions about Floyd's character, I'm starting to think Gilmore fits a need, and has the best chance of being the safest pick for the future, and for this year. I'm not seeing a whole lot of convincing downsides to Gilmore this year and in the future. Seems there will be a lot of possibilities in round 2 for an OT and lots of possibilities all the way through McNutt at WR. Somebody talk me out of it!

I can't. Unless Ingram is there at #10 and the staff thinks he fits.

    Gilmore is a baller.

  10. On the other hand, in 2006 I was literally chanting "Ngata! Ngata! Ngata!" in my Den while watching the Draft...I nearly had a heart attack when they announced Whitner...I could not calm down for hours...

Ha, I have some funny videos from our 2006 draft party when Whitner was selected.

People with the hand slap to the head, followed by a "What?!? Who is he!"

All the way to broken ****, lol.

  11. Danny batten excites you? I'll be shocked if he makes the team. No way he plays LB and I don't think he's got the strength to play DE. We have Kelsey, carrington, Merriman, moats (if he plays DE) ahead of him. Cut batten. I'd even consider cutting troupe. Bad backs are bad, especially for a DT. I can't envision troupe ever making an impact. I'm rooting for him, but I just can't see him ever contributing.

Troup is like McCargo in this instance. Troup is/was a much better player, but his back is his major downfall.

No one else has draft blunders? Wow, ya'll must be experts!

  12. Let's just be reminded of how difficult it is to evaluate college talent and transitioning it into the NFL.

Talking heads such as Mike Mayock may be well respected but have their share of blunders for people who they talk up a lot (Robert Ayers, Blaine Gabbert, etc.).

Who in recent years have you thought was going to be a complete stud, but hash't been very productive in the NFL (try to use 1st and 2nd rounders only as examples)...?

Where are all the Everette Brown fans, Limas Sweed, Dan Williams, Jerry Hughes, Jimmy Clausen, etc.

    I'll start.

    2008:

James Hardy. Not going to lie, I saw him play in person once in college and he looked like the real not going to lie. Had the size to be an awesome red zone threat, oh well.

    2009:

Larry English... oh Larry English what happened to you? Was it the lack of tackle talent in your conference that had us fooled? 7 sacks and 1 FF combined for his first 3 years in the NFL. Shame.

Darcel McBath. Had a promising rookie year, then injuries have put him on IR the last two seasons with two difference teams (Broncos and Jags).

Sean Smith...ugh Sean Smith - I thought he was going to be awesome! He's been a starter at CB for Miami but hasn't been great. Has improved in interceptions over his three years (0,1 and 2) lol.

    2010:

Demaryius Thomas, but I guess you can say has played well as of late, considering his QB carousel.

Brian Price. Thought he played pretty good last year but did nothing in his rookie year.

Obviously we all have had picks we've hit on, but that's not the point of this thread.

  13. I guess none of em lol... I kind of really like Charles Davis from the NFL network also. I'm pretty sure Mayock, Casserly and hundreds of others had Gabbert rated the best QB but being that I followed Mayock heavily and trusted his analysis is the reason for me losing respect for his judgment. The guy was so passionate about Gabbert he would have bet his house on him. I guess I will follow Charles Davis.

Mayock also talked up Robert Ayers more than anyone else ever did.

    Ayers isn't anything special...

  14. No, you don't. You need to draft solid guys so you can build a solid team. Wins put people's butt in the seats, not gimmicks. Following this foolish line of thinking is how the Bills got to 12 years without a playoff appearance.

Fine. Than state your case for who is a better alternative at #10 and why.

I don't agree with picking someone in the draft or signing someone (T.O.) just to fill seats. Its just part of marketing and it happens all the time for teams that are struggling and going through low points. It happens and I don't agree with it.

My pick at #10 obviously depends on who would be available at that point and time. Within trying to be reasonable, let's say...

    1.) Luck

    2.) RG3

    3.) Kalil

4-9. (in no particular order) Claiborne, Blackmon, Richardson, Tannehill, Reiff and Coples/Ingram.

If Coples was chosen and Ingram was available, I'd think about it, but not the other way around.

From what the draft world has been saying about our pick at 10, this would leave us with our choice of Floyd, Kuechly, DeCastro, Brockers, Martin or Kirkpatrick. I really don't want any of these guys at 10 and I would want to trade down. If I couldn't trade down, I would have to pick between Ingram and Gilmore actually, with a flyer on Floyd as well. Gilmore is underrated and McGee and Florence are getting older. Aaron Williams will be a good player for us and Justin Rogers will have a role. Not sure what will become of McKelvin, but I would most strongly consider Gilmore/Ingram/Floyd.

  15. Because having a bad year means you need to make a 'flashy' pick in the following draft?? Yeah, that strategy has certainly served the Bills well.

Sometimes you just need to make moves to put people's butts in the seats.

What I meant was, Buffalo has needs at T, LB and WR before drafting a guard.
