  1. The Steelers writers I know seem to think he's more of a guard masquerading on the outside than a true tackle.

That said, with two starting tackles entrenched and Jerald Hawkins, they might not fight to keep him. Posted a 1.68 10-split, 4.95 40 time at his pro day, dude can shift.

The rotoworld blurb confirms this as much. Seems like, at the very least, a versatile depth signing and, at the most, an upgrade at RT.

  2.

You would be less surprised if you used "search".....

    huh?

    a) No thread since January 15.

    b) You can't see a pre-season "Road to Redemption" video on the Bills' site? RB would be ham bone'd for this sort of offseason storyline.

  3. @Yolo, from Gilbert's wikipedia page:

    2016[edit]

On August 15, 2016, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Gilbert agreed to restructure $3.19 million of his 2016 salary into a bonus in order to clear $2.39 million in cap space.[19]

He started the first four games of the season and injured his ankle during a Week 4 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.[21] He missed the next three games but was able to return in time for Week 7 contest against the New England Patriots. Gilbert started 13 games and finished the season ranked the 13th best offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus with an overall grade of 87.1.[22]

  4. Shocked that I haven't seen a thread on him yet.

He applied for reinstatement and won't be welcomed back to the Browns. Do you make a run at him on a prove-it deal? This wouldn't preclude drafting a WR at 10 or resigning Woods and drafting a S/CB or trading down at 10.

  5. He has to be better than Mills, that isn't to say he'd sign here:

Steelers extended restricted free agent OL Chris Hubbard an original-pick tender.

The right of first refusal tender entitles Hubbard to a $1.8 million base salary. Teams can theoretically make him an offer sheet without giving up a draft pick, but the Steelers would be able to match. A former UDFA out of UAB's now-defunct football program, Hubbard held his own in four starts at right tackle last season. He also has the flexibility to play guard and even center.

  6. The Vikes moved on from him the minute they traded for Bradford, it was a 19mo rehab timetable to begin w/ so there was no reason to go after him last year. I'm sure they would like to recoup any picks if they could considering the price of Bradford.

Probably a better value than rolling the dice on a mid-round QB this year. I concede the move doesn't address the short term need for a vet backup.

On the human side, you'd think that if a team made a move for him he'd want to prove their investment good.

  7. I did.

Jerry Jones was tentative at best naming Dak the full time starter at the beginning of the year while milking the Romo injury until he had a larger sample size with no choice but to keep in Dak.

One in the hand is worth two in the bush and you don't reach to fill positional needs in the draft unless you are one piece away.

IMO: trade down to stockpile picks > if a QB falls to you take him this year > if we are, in fact, just a QB away from winning trade the farm for one in 2018.

    This is simple guys.

  8. Ha ha ha this is so funny thanks for the laugh

    Question..... and Hypothetical.

Say Bills Pick up the option

Then they draft Mahomes in the 2nd (Trubinksy and Watson where gone by their 1st).

Now Mahomes comes in and OUTPLAYS TT in the offseason.

Do you really think ANYONE on the Bills will have the STONES to play the Rookie over the guy they just committed to with 27.5M? (ALA Seattle)

No they don't, and that is why I hate picking up the option

This doesn't sound like a bad situation to be in tbh.

  9.

thats follower mentality. Oh so every team passed on Tom Brady 5 times so mustve meant he sucked. Oh the first round all passed on Desean Jackson, mustve meant something etc.

obviously the bills liked him if Rex went down there so be proactive and grab him.

you should your ignorance much more with your simple replies. All talk, no evidence, no backing etc. Typical forum poster.

I think I remembered why I stopped at 6 posts again now. Thanks for reminding me.

    Go Bills.

I can't tell if you are trolling or if your logic is truly this flawed.

  10. Well they are definitely looking at QBs. Interesting that they have only interviewed 1 RB.

    • Blake Bell, TE, Oklahoma (COM)

    • Anthony Boone, QB, Duke (COM)
    • Brandon Bridge, QB, South Alabama (COM)
    • Shane Carden, QB, East Carolina (COM)
    • Cody Fajardo, QB, Nevada (COM)
    • Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State (COM)
    • Connor Halliday, QB, Washington State (COM)
    • Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA (COM)
    • David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa (COM)
    • Jerry Lovelocke, QB, Prairie View A&M (COM)
    • Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State (COM)
    • Ali Marpet, G, Hobart (COM)
    • Nick Marshall, FS/QB/CB, Auburn (COM)

  11. In private, sure. In public it's telling any team considering him that they don't think he can do what he's selling.

If you went to your boss for a raise and he said it doesn't make sense but you are welcome to interview with others- ok. If you get to the interview and he's told them he doesn't think you can cut it, I bet your appreciation would drop quickly.

To use your analogy. If it doesn't make sense for you to get a raise, you probably aren't performing very well. It's pretty common knowledge that it generally costs a company more to hire someone new than it does to give someone a raise. If you are allowed to interview elsewhere you probably aren't in their long term plans anyways. You might get along with your coworkers but that doesn't mean your quality of work is worth keeping around.

I also think you are putting a little too much stock into GMs listening to other GMs. In sports there is a beautiful thing called game tape, other teams know exactly what type of player Spikes is and he either fits their scheme or doesn't.

  12. The only one out of those four where there is a problem is San Fran'. Alex Smith was successful and winning them games in both the regular season and playoffs... New QB who by all accounts was way off adjusting to the NFL yet thrown into it head first for nothing more than his athleticism. 9ers made a mistake getting rid of him so soon.

    1. Fitz was way too much of a cap hit for a nice-guy-journeyman-QB.

    2. Favre was never around when Rex was there. He wanted out after the end of the season, to which the Jets granted his request.

    3. Manning was coming off major neck surgery, on a HUGE contract and you have the heir-apparent to your franchise. Wise move. Move on. Better contract = more ability to rebuild

Seriously, get a grip of yourself.

You asked for 3 examples, I gave 4.
