  1. I'd rather develop the guy you'll hear about rather than sign the overpaid guy you've heard about.

I think that is putting a lot of faith in our coaching staff and coaches can only do so much. It's a lot easier for young players to learn when they hearing instructions from the coach and watching more experienced players execute. I'm pretty high on Moats but after Kelsey, Merriman and Moats our next two OLBs are Maybin and Antonio Coleman. There is no one in that group that is experienced at the non-rush OLB position. How can you expect any of the young guys to develop without seeing the scheme properly executed?

I think there is a similar situation at ILB with Torber and Davis. Crowder is better than both of them and is already knowledgeable of the system which warrants a place on the roster. It allows Shep to come along slowly (he's hurt, BTW) and learn the system before throwing him out there.

Warren is better than Edwards and Spencer Johnson (who is hold over from the 4-3).

At this point, you won't see too many big contacts coming out and if you could get these guys for 3-4 years (Crowder and Lawson are only 27) it could do a lot for the development of Shep, Moats, Maybin, Coleman, Carrington and even Dareus.

  2. I always worry Pats cuts are potential spies for Billy Bellicheat. Most of these guys are told they are getting cut and be resigned at a lower price, and they do it because they all buy into the Pats mantra.

Warren and Belichick had a pretty big blow out last year, so I doubt he wants nothing more than to beat him.

  3. This would solidify our front 7 for a few years and allow our young guys to learn from higher level talents. A front 7 that looks like:

    Merriman - Crowder - Barnett - Lawson

    Dareus - Williams - Warren

Looks pretty pretty good to me.

Lawson is the type of player they want kelsey to be, a versatile OLB that can cover the flat. He could also probably help with Maybin's development. I've given up on Maybin as a pass rusher and maybe he could be better in coverage with someone actually teaching and not trying to learn the system (like Kelsey). Warren is a better 3-4 DE than anyone on the team, albeit his hip is certainly a concern. As said in other threads Crowder is better than Davis and Torbor. Also he is familiar with the system and a plug and play type of player. This would probably speed up Barnett's comfort and understanding of the scheme as well.

Players to cut: Spencer Johnson, Torbor, Kelsey (probably won't happen)
