He won't be going anywhere this year after he reworked his deal.

How much he plays this year IMHO will come down to how effective the OL is playing.  If the OL struggles to gel with the new pieces this year and takes a step back, they are going to need him on the field more for his blocking as Kincaid isn't bringing much to the table in that department.  If that is the case, I can see 50-55% of the snaps easily in his wheel house.  If the OL comes out strong, then I think he is more in the 35-45% snap range as I still do expect them to run quite a bit of 2 TE sets and do think Knox will see a lot of snaps on running downs still too.

Whether he is here next year, well I honestly don't know the cap or contract scenario for next year since his reworked deal.  So hard for me to say how strong his future is past this season.  But I would be stunned if he was moved this year after reworking his deal.

I sincerely hope he is more than blocker this season and gets some designed plays , and a look from Josh as a third fourth read as well.

    Dude can make some plays

I expect him to be a Bill for a good while yet :)

It could very well be that Beane lets him, and his agent, test a trade before the start of next season.

Bottom line, I think Knox will want to stay in Buffalo and he will take a pay cut for a small added guarantee.  Less than this year.

He has to stay healthy and find a role that gets decent production for that to happen.  If not, he could be a June 1 cut or traded.

This is going to be a very important year for him.

    Depends greatly on Brady

Having a "new" OC is always exciting for fans and players alike lol

specifically my original post was in response  to someone saying the wr room was solid. While I’ll say cook and Kincaid are solid- they unfortunately run a lot of the some routes into the same zones that our existing WRs do. There’s definitely some initial gaps in the WR room that a back just doesn’t fill (stretching the D vertically)

This goes back to Brady and what he can bring to the Table this year.

We see overlapping skill sets if we box them in.

there are a few that can get deeper and keep the safeties honest. Cook might actually be a threat along with Kincaid , depending on the coverage

and any of them could step up but we probably need 2 out of 3 to play above reasonable expectation to have an average to possibly above group

I would like you to consider the TEs and RBs as pass catcher of skill and ability

The sum of these parts might well be enough if used thoughtfully.

    To be fair to badoll,

Some of these WRS will need to step up and into next level. Shakir will get some love from D-Coord so i am " Wishful ?! " Curtis S steps up , and wishful Coleman can find his feet , and hands before midseason

Oh, as we get deeper into every offseason NFL fans get pretty imaginative.    Remember when much of TSW were buying the "Trent Edwards can run the no huddle" kool-aid after Russ Brandon acquired TO to pair with Lee Evans?    Nothing we'd seen on the field from Trentative should have suggested he was anywhere near capable of this.........but fans ate it up.  Looked good in mini-camp.  Turk Schonert was going to be the man with the plan at OC.

That whole process of rationalization took an enormous suspension of disbelief and vast amounts of imagination.    It wasn't reality.    The further we get from watching real football the more fans forget what works and what doesn't.

I like Brady but you need the Jimmy's and Joe's once defense's adjust to "tactics".   Because they will.   The Dolphins ran up 70 points in a game against the Broncos early last season but eventually their limitations got exposed.   You gotta' have difference makers at key positions to survive and advance.    Bills are lacking that at WR.   They made up for that by running Allen almost 10x per game during the Brady stint as OC.   That's not a good long term strategy, IMO.

I don't expect to see Brady run plays like he did after getting thrown into the cage later in the season with Dorsey's play book.

I am of a slightly different opinion about jimmy's and joes.

The Coach has more influence on the game via play calling and adjustments. Its a skill not all have , but it is the most important facet to winning a Game, And I am going to stick to that.

But is surely not the whole of the matter in getting wins week in and week out.
You have a to have a strong foundation at every "team" defense offense

Secondary , front seven. O line TEs WRs and guys coming out of the backfield etc.

Get a strong base and a great play caller. Coaching at each group needs to be strong and communicate well.

I am no longer on the bandwagon of a 1A being next to QB in importance.

Getting the ball to the open guy and calling the right runs at the right time.
Bills are not weak anywhere i suggest on Offense excepting RT (sorry Spencer buddy, not sold on you yet)

Nor are they exceptional , on paper at this point. we shall see.

    Have faith 😉

I'm going to do something crazy and wait at least until training camp to see what Davis can bring and what his draft worth may or may not be.

    Crazy!

Are any of your Family aware of your condition ?

Sensible is certainly reason for concern these days.

As always. Depends on how they use him. Bills seem to struggle getting the best work out of their backs. Dorsey ?
I expect Brady will have had enough time to design his future state of His Offense , knowing what types and skill sets his players might best be implemented from game to game.

    But yea.

    Crazy !

I like him from what little I’ve seen. He’s not going to run away from anyone in the NFL like those long college runs, but I think he can be effective. I can’t wait to see!!!

This is a draft pick I really am looking forward watch develop too 👍

Johnson already provides a nice complement to Cook, and this pick just bolsters our depth. I hope it works out!

I can see Davis becoming the 2nd back up , and change of pace guy.

Between the tackles a bit more perhaps than we would like Cook to run ?
Ty will be the 3rd up. I like TY plenty , btw.

But I am leaning in that Davis is going  to become very good and  quickly. Different back than Cook. So complimentary I guess :)

They have already aluded to him needing to be able to play some guard on one of the videos post draft.

@Shaw66. Has a point Morse was brought in as a pure canter.  Other than Kent Hull ( God rest his great soul) I dont remember another pure center besides those two.

yea , I edited my post. Morse was pure center. and a very good one. Hoping the Kid earns the spot Morse left , and Connor can get back to his natural position

Of course Teams need O line to be flexible with position. Bills have been decimated  a few times at O line by end of year.

    Not pretty and poor Josh

Could be a poor mans Bobby trees, but I think he’s more of a complimentary piece than a starter.  We’ll know a lot more this coming season, as he’s not going to sneak up on anybody now.

yea . he will be noticed even more by D Coordinators

Could go the other way. Gaining more looks or getting less tosses.

But spreading the ball around will be the Brady Bunch game

There's probably not a single O-lineman in the NFL that doesn't cross train (at least) at one other position.

Cross training is particularly important for young O-linemen because it provides a deeper understanding of each player's assignment on every play. Understanding the assignments and footwork of the entire unit is a prerequisite in becoming a successful O-lineman and a successful offensive line.

These are professionals and they're employed because of their work ethic and aptitude for the game. I highly doubt there's an O-lineman in the NFL that only practices and studies his own position. Doing half the work of the others at your position group is no way to gain esteem among your group, or proficiency at your craft.

I was going to say something equivalent.

But you more than covered it :)

Teams likely have 8 OL active on Gameday, 9 total on active roster.

I do think what you say is correct, but I have to imagine Kromer is going to want VPG to have some baseline familiarity with Guard if everything goes haywire ala the early season Miami game a few years ago.

Most teams don’t have backups active that can only really play one position at a strong level … we’d now have two with LT Van Demark and C Van Pran Granger.

That likely would leave Collins as the guy for backup RT and both G spots without a shuffle.

Not the end of the world given McGoverns flex, but also not what most teams do, having 2/3 backups being one position backups.

They’ll likely play Van Demark at RT and VPG at OG a good bit this summer to try and develop their flex.

Let’s just hope VPG wins the C spot because that would be incredibly ideal.

If he becomes The Center ? All bets are off. You never move your center to guard. Only vice versa ha ha

But yea he has to train at guard.

Hoping for him to become Morse long term replacement honestly. wishful maybe

McDermott needs to end this flexibility crap starting with VPG. Let the kid fight for the canter position ONLY because that is what he is, a center.

In my Time as a fan , i do not recall Bills ever ever bringing in a pure center. Much less drafting one to challenge day one.

Gotta cheer for this kid 💪

I agree, that would be three people the Bills drafted starting (Coleman, Bishop and VPG)

Does McGovern go back to L Guard , where he did a fine job I thought. Improved the whole line , especially his side.
Did not like when Bills announced his move to center. But accepted it with moving on from Morse

I really liked this draft as Beane filled so many questionable needs. I like all the talent as it looks like some hard-nosed men and some should be competing for jobs right away. Time will tell. Played like a chess master. He really, really wanted that third-round pick and still got the WR they wanted.

I think the question I had at the  Draft was , why Coleman. Beane seemed to answer that in two ways

No calls happened to move into mid early first.

And it seems Allen is a Coleman fan.

    I hated it.

But am now much more open minded that they will fit him in nicely. Spreading the ball around seems to be the mantra.

Hope Brady excels at just that.

Not thrilled. Not overly skeptical either.

Idk… Wr is a 100% dependent position.  With Big Ben he was pretty solid.  The Pickett offense was bad.  The Bears passing game was a disaster.  Didnt see him as a fit for what Miami does at wr.  Played special teams and decent blocker doesn't point to a guy who doesnt like football.  He will have to humble himself to make the team.  He does that I see a path for a turn around.  Top qb, open targets, and offense suited for his play style.

    he took the job

McBeanes had a reason to offer an opportunity.

Hopin' he puuls his sht together and gets to work. There IS a real place for him as a Bill if he can recreate hisself

I’m seeing some short Fb vids of people getting autographs and selfies with the GOAT QB in public places.  I think a true Bills fan wouldn’t.  I wouldn’t. I even saw him autographing someone’s clothing who didn’t ask for it.  Now that’s a Brady move. If I was in the same elevator or sat beside him in coach (ha), I would definitely tell him I’m a member of Bills Mafia and I’m glad he’s retired.  I mean I’d have to say something, wouldn’t I?  But no autograph or selfie.  How bout you?  Would you, could you, should you?

This is where I've come to on Coleman as well.

After my initial disappointment and teeth gnashing subsided and I allowed myself to become excited about what he seems to do WELL rather than what he DOESN'T do well, I've slowly accepted that he has the upside and skillset to potentially become a very good NFL receiver.....eventually.

The issue, as you point out, is that they need him NOW, and Beane said as much recently.

Where I think Coleman would have the best chance to succeed is if he had been added to a WR depth chart that didn't need him to produce right away. That could use him situationally and scheme him up and bring him along slowly.

I also think his best chance at success is to be a move player, a big slot, and to line up off the line of scrimmage more often than not.

Instead, he will seemingly have neither of those two luxuries. He joined a team that's gonna depend on him right away, and he joined a team that seems dead set on using him as a traditional X receiver. My worry about Coleman has thus shifted. I'm not as worried about him purely as a prospect -- clearly he's talented. Instead, I'm worried that his early workload and the way the Bills seem to want to use him will not be setting him up for success.

I really, REALLY hope they add a WR of significance after June 1st, be it via trade or free agency. Even someone who is only serviceable (like the current version of Odell Beckham) would take some pressure off of Coleman and would be able to provide some on-field mentorship.

As things stand now, I feel like there is a clear path to success for Keon Coleman, and that the Bills do not currently seem to be headed down that path.

Are they dead set on using him as an X. Not sure thats true.

I expected Beanes to score a exactly that and such my hesitation to get on board with Coleman.

     But I am coming around.

Maybe they are moving him around and using Samuel's speed outside.

But looking like Brady is just going to scheme guys open.

Maybe it's Cook that runs the deep outside pass on occasion lol Maybe Claypool ??

Gotta have some faith this time of year

Agreed, mostly because he was mis-used, (in my opinion) and has only played with mediocre QB's thus far in his career.

That being said, Next Gen Stats (@nextgenstats on TwitterX), and Cover1 support the case that his physical capabilities are still there.

    1. According to NextGen, Samuel averaged 9.08 mph within the first second of his routes in 2023. They call it "burst" He was the 3rd quickest in the NFL for receivers with at least 300 routes. Bills ranked 29th in the league in that category last year, at 7.95 mph.  (Gabe was 8.25 mph and Stef was 7.73)

    2. Cover1 posted that Samuel was tied for 13th last season in average separation with 3.3 yards.

Those are elite numbers. Now Josh just needs to get him the ball, and he could have a great season.  That burst will keep teams honest.  I am honestly starting to get excited. There is a lot of talent on this Offense!

Under rated for good reason. But as you peel back a few layers, and the previous Off and QB situations.

Easy to see this guy might be a formidable weapon in Bills offense  !

     Thanks for details :)

The more I think about this pick and what we saw from Brady last year, the more I'm talking myself into Coleman being a good fit. (I have spoken...to myself)

Brady did the complimentary football thing but when we did pass it was a lot of hitches and screens...basically lots of stuff close to the LOS with some verticals mixed in, not a lot of complicated routes. Get him the ball quick and let him YAC or block/pick for guys.

I think part of our collective fan problem is we've adopted the mindset that Brady is going to really open up the offense and make it his own in year 2 in which case we maybe we have a raw rookie that will struggle. But what if that's not the plan? What if Brady's 2023 offense is the offense? Coleman can do that.

This is a good post. Not just because I agree mostly :)

Brady simplifying last year , was a reset maybe. A change at least though right ? Or well thought out.

This year starts out rebuilding the Basics (simplified) and then grow from there from seeing what is working.

Get that down well , across 11+ guys , and then build onto those fundamentals that are needed and work your way up

Idk that is what he is doing but I would be on board. And I think you are close to the truth VW :)

Good dialogue to be had over this.

Whats Brady thinking for this season ?

Considering the players in hand currently ?

Some one smarter than me   should consider a thread , if not already running. 😅

I agree. The trouble is that he was just good enough to lose with. It's like having the second-best hand in poker. The fault lies not in him but in McBeane's faith that he could be a viable WR2. It took until the second half of last season, when both Allen and Brady gave up on him, for McBeane to accept their faith was misplaced. Their overvaluation of Davis is one of three key mistakes they have made in the Allen era, along with the Von Miller debacle and allowing an overmatched Spencer Brown to learn on the job.

    I agree mostly.

Depending on Davis to become more that he was was a mistake I also made !
Von Miller I was not on board with because  sunk contract. I had as few on my list back then.

But not that I expected this nasty injury

Brown ? I would have wanted an upgrade vet for him to learn behind another year (or two )
But not a player i felt wouldn't improve , if healthy

But Bills have for ever half assd RT.
BTW I think Bills might be fielding the best o Line in quite few years

Rooting for Javon ! of course !
