If both Rousseau and Bosa pop off at the same time we may have two DEs with double digit sacks.. And that doesn’t even account for Hoecht, Epenesa, Jackson and Solomon.. I’ve loved this signing since Day 1..
Oh heck ! It's a nail biter for me.
Could be outstanding, even more so with refreshed interior D line

We can. We won't. Theyre too conservative, and thats ok, but thats what it is. Cap has been booming year to year. We've retained our own and shelled out $$ to do so, but we've been incredibly reserved with our spending. Diggs is off the books completely, so is Von. The reality is we invested heavily in the defense and are going to hope we maximize our rookie talent. I believe that will work some.... but also believe we could find the $$. Lining him up across Groot not only makes Hendrickson a better weapon, but it amplifies Groot.
We'd trade off some of our long term stability to do it, but thats what you save money for. A true difference maker. Me thinks Bengals are dumb/desperate enough to do it too!! (not saying we'll get him, but theyre dumb enough to send him to a conference rival [same with a certain red/yellow team])
Once we got Bosa , I felt Beane was done working the phones for a stud DE.
To me he is a compromise and risk. But god Bless him and hope he can stay healthy enough for teams to defend against his skills.
Hendrickson was a target with a bullseye for me.
Go Bills

For the record, I don't expect a thing out of Joey Bosa and I don't expect Hendrick routinely getting 17 sacks per season going forward.
You're right, it won't happen, but for the draft capital and money that it would take to potentially acquire him, ANYTHING less than a Super Bowl victory would be a failure.
Von Miller says hi.
Right player but wrong time. Bills were an incomplete teams in some ways
Now?
I might have taken Hendrickson with the financial burden across from Gregg.
Bills are a whole team now. Coaches and players alike.
It's rare , but 1 Beast player at DE can be a game changer with a supporting staff

Yawn. Wake me up after the 3rd regular season game and then we can start drawing some conclusions.
3 days of camp without pads and people are drawing conclusions. Hilarious.
The only thing you can take from this so far is 1) Josh will probably start at QB 2) Bishop is a starting safety, it’s his job to lose and 3) They are going to make Max earn the #2 CB spot.
Shocker.
(I love that Tre is looking good so far. Love that man)
Oh heck . you know it's fun times right now 😋

They kept 9 OL last year. I can't see them wanting to let any of those 9 go, especially when the rules require you have to have 8 up on gameday. They kept 5 linebackers (some years have kept 6) and again because of what you need for special teams I don't see a world where keeping only 4 makes sense.
They will keep:
2 QBs, 1 FB, 3 RBs, 5 WRs, 3 TEs, 9 OL, 8 DL, 5 LBs, 9 DBs, 3 STs - as a minimum. That gets you to 48.
I think it leaves you 5 spots to allocate between WR, DL, DB and any wildcard you don't want to lose at another spot.
You can't have too many DBs , is an old Coach phrase that some might agree with
I want another WR in this scheme if Brady repeats his mantra
Gilliam and 3RBs fits that nicely as well. Especially the 3 Bills have 😍
I wonder if Hoecht scores as DL or LB.We can PS a few DBs i might hope
6 hours ago, Ethan in Cleveland said:This is moslty accurate.
3 STs is really PK, P, and LS so it leaves off gunner and return guy.
They have never carried 8 DL and I was pilloried earlier this summer for suggesting they go light on DL until the PED cheats come back.
I agree 5 LBs seems about right.
I honestly would be happy with 6 WR and let Shakir field punts. Codrington can't play defense and kick and punt return is not that critical. Gunner is probably the most important 4th special team player. Hopefully one of the rookies can sieze that spot.
Lastly I think they keep an extra DB as I suggested earlier this Spring. They have huge question marks all over the defensive backfield if you include Benford's concussion history. Id keep an extra DB and an extra safety. Really like the kid Hancock out of Ohio State as a guy that can challenge Lewis as the third safety. Honestly though I have not heard a single thing about him since draft day.
No to Shakir returning anything lol .
Very sorry to read you were pilloried. Sounds just awfulGo Bills

Yes! This! What I have always found is that football games and championships are won with players who get the most mentions during training camp! It is impossible for any team to win a championship without mentions!
I have proven out this theory on more than one drunken occasion with pictograms.
Thank you

Great line, and i hope its sincere what were seeing. He's surprised me a bit with his maturity so far. RBs have got the raw end for a while now. Seems like their productive life expectancy is 4-6 years. Sucks to be locked into rookie pay scale for 4/5 years (4 for 1st rd'ers; but again we're talking RBs) and then unable to get a "real" contract.
I hope when the new CBA is worked out they find a way to comp RB's better! If they cant/wont, then they should make it 3 years (+1 yr team option for 1st round: RB's only) for RB's. The Bills aren't doing Cook dirty; the CBA put them there. We cant handcuff ourselves to do the right thing, at a competitive disadvantage.
Could they voluntarily have re-wrote the deal this offseason to add incentives or something? I was really turned off by his verbal crap this summer, but his actions seem to be different. I am not in the camp of giving him what I believe his market in FA will be, but i also get the crap situation he's in. I'd totally meet him in the middle on making this year more profitable for him. Give him some awesome kickers for performance
" I deserve what I want and I need. "
His quotes from Camp
I need ?
Sounds very mature lol

With the versatility of their OL I could see them trying to get away with carrying one less. I can't see less than 3 TEs. Honestly I'd carry one less LB. They so rarely play more than 2.
My crusade to not have a FB on the team looks like it will never come to fruition.
Gilliam says hello. Again , this year
I wish they would line him up more often and send him on a screen for seven yards to destroy a corner

The issue I have with this sentiment and these numbers is that in this day and age I don't think when people talk "deep ball" they are discussing 20 yard pass plays.
You can quantify it any way that it needs to be sugar coated to save face for Josh, but he is not accurate on passes that are truly deep down field. I'm talking 40-50 yards. Moon balls as it were. Now granted the further the target the slimmer the window to hit it. And passes that deep require the ability of the WR to track it. But more often than not it seems like Josh is so scared to under throw and get picked off (arm punt) that he overthrows the target range by a fair amount.
I feel like Josh throws a deep over the shoulder the ball the same he throws short curl in coverage
Hard and flat
He could work on his arc lol if he has a WR he could trust to get over

Jones probably Oliver no. Yea Wilkins when he was with the Fins was dam good. But a year with the Raiders hurt and supposedly not taking rehab seriously? Give me the more reliable and still good Oliver. But if Beane wants to kick the tires and protect Josh’s nuts and sign him I wouldn’t mindSounds like a Process guy no ?
I would vote against.

Agree.
My son mentioned him recently and suggested to keep an eye on him here in Buffalo.
Can Brady make best use of this guy ?Our O line is now at the level , IMHO , Bills should be able to execute more wrinkles and looks this year.
The answer to dominance this year is the pass catchers and making sure Josh sees them.
Like to see some deeper and successful passing this year by getting out ahead and over the top. Bills need that threat. Lets hope this WR , TEs group et al are the strength of the offense

He hasn’t been given the opportunity because his own coaches genuinely don’t believe he can play outside. They have acquired a fair amount of boundary WRs over the past 2 seasons to keep Shakir out of there.
So by design ?
I won't define him as a slot receiver as I would Beasely.
But he will not be a deep threat either. Bills bring in players for that skill set each season it seems lolHow he fits Bills ? He is worthy of a 1st round pick
But thats hindsight by me

Right now yes. 2 or more years ago of course.
They really had no choice. He's a Team leader and maybe their best player.
Perhaps they should have gotten ahead of this payday as you mentioned.
Someone was going to pay him for sure. The League thinks he a game changer or Force player

Thank you very much for the compelling statistical breakdown.
I think the argument that a top tier slot receiver is more valuable (and in retrospect might be drafted higher) than an average starting boundary receiver is a valid one.
I could definitely see Shakir being drafted in the 25-28 range... it would only take one team that doesn't have that type of player to make the pick.
Thank you for " reposting " wettlaufers research.
And when we drafted him I recall there was more focus on his seeming limitations. Wow has he grown !
Going to re mention here , He is my Freddy Jackson of the current regime 🧡

Let's hope. Could also make the player lazy thinking he has 10 million dollars and he's set for life. Time will tell
That is the flip side that I considered. My bet is that few players are wired to just take the money and get fat. Now that second contract is another story lol

A fully gaurenteed (or almost) contract for a 2nd rounder seems insane to me, but guess that's buisness
I think this is a good thing for all
The kids don't have to second guess how they train or practice. Or even play the games a bit shy.
I think it will take away a ton of stress in other ways as well. Player Focus pivots to playing football free and full on. Maybe overthinking it.

They had arguably the greatest offense of all time with Moss that year. If a few things happen differently in one game they’re considered the greatest team in sports history. I’m sure they would have been just fine with a star WR long term if they went that route. Brady didn’t need it, that is what they proved. Ball was always going to an open player at light speed. They didn’t need a guy like Moss to make it work, but it would have been just fine either way. That one year it produced results like we have never seen before or since.
Brady couldn't make those throws all day long either. Brady set up the Offense's style of play. The deep throw he would make .
That choice was a Brady/ Bill thang . And it worked even better over the long term one might suggest ?
