Not at all. I've been a fan far too long to give up "hope" cuz that's all I got week after week. I hope the O-Line holds up, I hope we don't have injuries. I hope CJ doesn't fumble etc.

It's not giving up hope but more of a, when the Hell are we going to contend situation. The game was close yes but that was only cuz the refs didn't see EJ fumble and the Jets ran out of challenges. Their penalties and our defense (believe it or not) kept us in the game.

The Ravens are for sure not the same team as last year but like I said, they haven't allowed an offensive TD since week 1. That's 2 whole games without allowing one. If the tables were turned and the Bills didn't allow an offensive TD in 2 games, that would be the talk of the town wouldn't it?

I don't feel comfortable going against that defense. Not with the offensive approach we have. Can we beat them? Sure. Why not? But many adjustments need to be made for that to happen and I don't really know if it's Hackett, EJ or Marrone to blame. What I DO know is, is that all three of them are in this thing together and if one messes up, they all take the fall.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss I get it. If we pulled out a win against the Jets, we surely wouldn't have deserved it (in my opinion of course) but I would still be happy about it. But if it makes any sense, I'd rather lose a game confident that the team I'm rooting for is an all around well trained team with a solid gameplan, than to win by luck and have question marks going into the next game.

Right now (and for a long time) we don't have a "look" to us. For example, when you play the Jets, people KNOW they have a solid D-line week after week. Not good one week and bad on another. Consistently good. The Bills are always on the same page one quarter and off on the next. All we're known for is having a hurry up offense this year and the Eagles are even taking THAT spotlight away from us cuz they're "faster".

I just want to at least have a solid D-line that people can talk about and say, oh we're playing the Bills, we're definitely not going to be able to run against them. We have the personnel for it. Mario is a beast, Kyle is a beast, Dareus was supposed to be one.

No hope lost. Just not confident in the approach of the offense going up against that Ravens D.

can't say that about the dline because in my honest opinion DWC, they're soft.

This. There was nothing more disheartening last year than to see the Bills' follow-up to the Pats* debacle in San Fran. No heart, no fight -- nada.

I want to see the Bills play angry. Smart, but angry.

or how bout they play a physical brand of ball like the ravens and jets play. One of the bills biggest problems is they're soft!!!

I expect the ravens to do the same things the jets did.

We show up against carolina with a suspect oline, but can't do a thing against the jets oline or dline. The bills are soft and that's one of the things that need to change.

  3. The problem I see is accountability. Whose holding Hackett accountable for crappy play calling? He's the damn OC for crying out loud... Is anyone in his face saying what the hell was that? Where is the dynamic play calling we were hoping to see? That was the most vanilla game plan I have ever seen by any Bills team. I'm okay with not making the playoffs this year but we have to know that there is more to his schemes than what we saw yesterday. GET RID OF THE FREAKIN SHOTGUN RB DRAWS UP THE MIDDLE FOR 1 yard. Bring in an I formation, run a sweep, offtackle or toss to CJ he's not an up the middle guy and it doesn't take a NFL caliber OC to know that.

EXACTLY!! Who allows the bs play calling?? Someone needs to let dm/nh this is not college.

There really was no reason to get rid of the offense that we had. It scored points it moved the ball etc....We should have kept some of the playbook

I was thinking this as well. Or perhaps look at other plays that no huddle teams run. I really liked the play action pass the pats did when dobson was wide open. Could it hurt to try it??
  5. I think it will come down to 1 on 1 matchups and coaching. Since rex and pettine know each other so well, who can out think the other??

Also the coaches will need to put the players in a position to win their 1on1 battles.

I would like to see fj and cj on the field at the same time. Perhaps split cj wide and keep fred at home.

So if splitting cj wide takes one of the jets line backers out of the picture, then they should do that.

Id also love to see Gragg in the game. t think a speedy te could make diff too.

I'm not to worried about our d, but hackett needs call a good game.

Any of you hot-heads pause to think that perhaps we ran a simplified offense today as part of the development of a rookie, a talented rookie but still a rookie, who missed half of preseason and only played 3 quarters before that? I'm not saying our offense was a potent juggernaut 'cuz it wasn't. I'm just pointing out that we had a rookie who looked poised calm and confident at the helm - which we likely wouldn't have seen if the complexity of the offense were greater.

Read my other comment!! Its called a wrinkle hopeful. It doesn't have to be complex but adjustments needed to be made. Bottom line, YOU DO WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN!!

And if I heard correctly, SJ's td was an audible called by EJ. And the td to RW was a play he called because of bad communication. Don't know how true it is so correct me if I'm wrong. Developement of a talented rookie you say?? Well you take a chance on that talent. They didn't and that's just one of many things that cost us a division game.

More was needed to win. They took him 16th for a reason. Let it ride and do what you have to do to win!!! Jmho

I don't see what all the hype is about, we lost to a very bad NE team.. NE looked like a 6-10 team today and still beat us after we had 10 penalties. I agree the Defense did look better than years past, much better but our offense was terrible. And I don't mean the players as much as the scheme, did anyone else notice it was the same EXACT FORMATION THE ENTIRE GAME IN THE BACKFIELD.! And our run plays consisted of the same 2 runs the WHOLE game, either left or right.! It was mis usage of Spiller to get him in the open, no Draw plays, only one screen, no counters, no mis directions, no pitches, just the same run play all game from the exact same formation all game. BLAH, no wounder we couldn't run the freaking ball.!

EXACTLY !!! That falls on the oc!!

Good post. My one quibble: give Hackett a break. I'm pretty confident they had to run a very simplified offense given that the Qb hasn't played in three weeks and has only about two preseason quarters under his belt. Gailey is actually a very good coordinator, but recall that he had a very smart, veteran qb running the offense (and yes, that qb had lots of flaws). Anyway, sometimes an OC has to run a simple offense because of the limitations of the qb.

and how do you know this?? I'm not giving hackett ****!! Perhaps he should have ran more play action. Since they keyed on spiller the way they did, why wouldn't he?? Its called a wrinkle. He needed to add a couple wrinkles to that bs play calling. Give him a break??? No can we Bills fans get a break. If u can't run with the big boys than stay home. His play calling was **** and that's part of the reason we lost!!

NOBODY GETS A BREAK!! 13 YEARS WITHOUT A SNIFF OF THE PLAYOFFS........NO ONE!!!!

Chandler, false start, (twice) I believe. WTF Chandler?

It's troubling to me that we knew about the penalties - a theme all preseason - and the coaches don't seem able to address the problem.

Give Hackett a bit of a break judging his play calling. He had a rookie starting against a wicked good DL, and said rookie hasn't played in 3 weeks. It was the right thing to run a simplified offense.

You're right on about the 3-and-outs, but it begs the question to me: do we not have a ball-control version of our offense at all? When you don't huddle and go 3 and out, you give the D all of 23 seconds off the field. At least give them 2 minutes.

I'm most interested to see what the Patriots look like against another team. I'm wondering if the Bills will be good, or if the Pats will be putrid. Given the number of penalties and turnovers we had, and the disparity in the TOP, last year's Pats would have hung up 40. Or 50.

like I said in another post, its called wrinkles. He needed to add wrinkles to his bs play calling!! Like a play action pass. You say give him a break, but his play calling is part of the reason for so many 3 and outs.

As for ej, you took him at 16 for a reason. So wit the play calling take a chance somewhere in the game and more than once. YOU DO WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN!!

Spiller's inability to find a seam was bs.

It's not like the seas magically parted only when Freddy got the a ball

he needs to be used in space. Not one !@#$ing sweep, no creativity! No play action, just bs!!

And if freddy was the key, then why the hell would he go away from him??!!

Spiller could have been used other ways. Its more than one way to skin a cat;-)

  10.

This is BS. Spiller is a star running back and our coaches don't have a clue how to use him. That counter tray running play they kept running every single running play suites Freddy's game not Spillers. Freddy is a find the hole running back and Spiller needs open field. That was the most ridiculous play to keep calling constantly. C'mon that's all we have in the playbook for Spiller?

EXACTLY!!! I can't even remember us running the play action from it. Complete bs play calling.

If u can't execute in a no huddle, than there's no need to run it.

The pats played like **** and we still loss. GIVE ME A BREAK!!

  11. I really have no idea why Gilmore wasn't on Johnson all game instead of Williams. Was anyone else happy that Williams went down with an injury? I mean, not being mean, I wouldn't want anything serious, but I was more optimistic after he went out.

mrags, I kept asking myself the same thing!! I didn't want aw to go down, but benched......ABSOLUTELY!! Looks like we'll be drafting another corner!! Lol
