  1. This excerpt from Polian's book, published in the Buffalo News, brought to mind the innumerable threads on TBD asking why the Bills have ended up with retread head coaches and coordinators, or just how much influence Wilson had over personnel decisions.

To be clear, my intent is not to bash Mr. Wilson, the former head coaches and coordinators, or the Bills. I just think that if there was this much tip-toeing around about a pro personnel director, what kind of machinations ensued when it came time to hire a head coach?

Interested in your thoughts about this.

  2. Something seems off with our wide receivers except for Hogan. Maybe Watkins is hurting but he seems to be becoming a non factor. Woods dropped a couple right in his hands yesterday. Looks disinterested.

Maybe they're thinking about a throw that will get their ribs broken, or a throw that completely misses, or crappy playcalling. That's all distracting, and that's the difference between a catch and a drop.

  3. Yeah, this is the part of the script where Marrone is "coaching for his job" and will ride the horse that gets him the most Ws (which is in question right now). He has NO vested interest in EJ at this point. Why would he further pulverize the shards of his broken reputation that remain? On the other hand, the front office (the way front office, as in Pegulas) wants to see if EJ is the real deal or a bust, so they reach through the HC and force the EJ start. That sends a clear message to the team that the HC's days are numbered, and the rest of the season is a hot mess. On the other hand, you get to see some of the younger players and set up for 2015.

If you're in the area, join us. GO BILLS!!

House, I didn't know you lived in FL. A little south for me as I'm in Tampa, but looks like a fun bar.

Unfortunately, I'm in a hotel in Boston for work.

There's a HUGE Bills Backers chapter in Boston--watch the game with them!

  5. How about a near-miraculous 6-1 run (L at Denver) to grab the East out of the grasp of the Patriots*? How about that? What if the team, which has enough talent to beat teams like Miami and Cleveland and (should have) enough pride to upset the likes of the Patriots and GB, says "f*** this" and just plays lights out for the next seven weeks? And go ahead and post a :w00t: or a  all you want, but it's a hell of a lot more fun being a Bills fan if you can imagine the possibilities.

  6. Pretty simple...

Seems everyone has jumped off the Kyle Orton train, so let's see what the poll numbers are.... who should be the starting QB of the Bills for the rest of the season?

The only people who've jumped off the Kyle Orton train are the alarmists who've written off the rest of the season based on...well, I'm not sure what they are basing it on other than an ingrained fatalism about the Bills' prospects. I agree with Crayola--if the Ls dip to below 5, then reassess. Until then, I am enjoying every W and every convoluted playoff scenario that gives us a prayer of getting to the wildcard round.

  7. You can't always get balance. Comfortable lead most of the game and played maybe a bit too conservative but no stupid mistakes.

Yes, but any of the retired OCs and football experts on this board would tell you that nothing makes you an unpredictable and a dangerous O like running the same number of pass and run plays, because opposing DCs will never pick up on some artificial application of balance. Oh...and the best thing to do when your run game isn't working is not to work on it in games and get it right, but instead is to abandon it and start flinging the ball, because the opposing DCs who aren't watching film of us won't see that coming either. Also, the experts know from personal experience that you need bigger stones to rant and rave about an OC's game planning from the relative anonymity of some discussion board than you do when you're an OC for an NFL team in the trenches trying to win a game. Plus, didn't you know that the NFL now grades wins based on the number of points you score AND the circumstances of the win? Yep--if you play against a rookie making his first road start or a slapstick QB tandem, that W doesn't count as much as if you beat Aaron Rogers or Peyton Manning.
