  1. I'm worried about the QB situation, but I also think that the media is whipping this into a controversy three days into camp.

That said, I agree with the OP. Cassel to Watkins, Woods, Clay or McCoy could become a thing once they get their timing down. I've been rooting for EJ from the start, but it's hard to ignore legit in-game experience. And plenty of teams have proven that you can win with a short or intermediate passing game. Let Roman do his job and figure out how to make the most out of what he has.

  2. I live in Lynchburg, VA, which is No Man's Land for NFL football. Everyone down here is all about Virginia or Virginia Tech (meh), and then there's a weird mix of Redskins, Steelers, and Cowboys fans. Very few people root for Carolina or Tennessee. The guy who owns the bar that hosts our Backers group is a Miami fan--but he's from FL, so that's explainable. He told me that this market tends to follow the "national" NFL teams and teams that play in the Super Bowl, which explains the Pittsburgh and Dallas fans. In our Backers group, we have native Virginians who are lifelong Bills fans. Reason? Bruce Smith (V. Tech), the playoff and Super Bowl appearances, and more recently, EJ Manuel (Virginia Beach native).

In this market on an average Sunday, CBS is going to carry the Steelers, Jags, or (rarely) Indy game, and FOX will carry Washington, Carolina, or Dallas. This is a bit of a generalization, but in most cases that's who you get to choose from on network TV on Sundays.

Before I moved here in 2009, I lived in New Hampshire for 25 years. That did nothing but heighten my dislike for the Patriots** and their fans. At first, they were the lovable lugs. Nobody in NH actually wore Patriots gear, and you could go to Foxboro and get a great seat day of the game. The Pats** fans tailgating were jerks, but respectful jerks. When the Brady*/Belichick* era began, there was so much bandwagon boarding that they had to reinforce the thing with steel girders. Then the invisible Pats* fans became d-cks, and the Pats* fans who were already d-cks became really obnoxious d-cks.

  3. Excellent post!

I have struggled with whether I should try to indoctrinate my small children in the ways of the Bills when they get older, or let them choose for themselves (likely Steelers, since that's where we now live). I think you make a compelling case for the family bond over the Bills, even that means years (decades) of hard times.

We lived in New Hampshire for years, and with the two older kids, I went the "let them decide on their own" route. Those two are smart and accomplished people--but they are Patriots** fans. With our three younger guys, they wore Bills red, white, and blue from birth. We're now in central Virginia, lead a Bills Backers group, and they wear their Bills jerseys every Sunday. Proudest moment so far: all three wore their jerseys for their school pics this year. Awesome. GO BILLS!!!

  4. @JOBOOZOSO: FOX @NFLonFOX Tannehill, Dolphins look sharp during mini-camp practices http://t.co/imm5eZVHEw

@OmarKelly: Allow the Sun-Sentinel to breakdown Ryan Tannehill's BIG day during #Dolphins' final minicamp (highlights too) http://t.co/qL2BlXnmo2

    #Doomed

He had his BIG day against the Phins third-team D. YOU could have a BIG day against the Phins third-team D.

  5. Patriots are repeat integrity of the game offenders, so discipline will be higher. The Sean Payton precedence set the standard of a coach being accountable for the actions of his team and coaches, even without any direct knowledge of what was occurring.

    Brady 8 games

    Belichick 1 season

    Patriots $1M fine

After reading the report which is way more scathing than I expected, I don't see how the NFL can give less than that. So that is what I expect.

^^^This guy for NFL Commissioner. Boom!

  6. If either Cassel (very likely) or Taylor (likely) can demonstrate that their a half-second faster on their reads and decision-making, EJ is toast. I like the guy, and I want him to succeed, but if Cassel/Taylor can see a streaking Goodwin and lay it on his hands or fit the ball in to a crossing Watkins, EJ is a third-string QB.

  7. I want to watch it with my three boys. They've been wearing Bills gear since they were infants. The oldest (fourth grade) now looks forward to hitting the place we go for the Bills Backers of Lynchburg, Virginia gatherings (Stoney Badger Tavern). His two younger brothers are starting to catch on.

BTW, did any of you guys go to Home Depot to get the 2x6s to reinforce the bandwagon? It's already starting to sag under the additional weight.
