  1.

That's wiki. Couldn't find another link except wiki which mentioned that. Anyone can write pretty much anything on wiki.

And Bentley is still broadcasting. Doubt that would happen if he'd distributed photos.

Ya -- and Ray Bentley wrote children's books. Anyone remember "Darby The Dinosaur"?

So he's either been badly slandered, or dude is a freak.

  2. I could not disagree more. Kelsay is EXACTLY what is wrong with the Bills. His play has called for him to be replaced for his entire career yet nothing has been done. Through 4 GMs, not one has made a move to improve our roster to a point where Kelsay found himself on the bench. You act like him starting is a good defense, when in reality it shows just how bad the Bills are talent wise - where a guy as bad as Kelsay can start for this long and be a captian. Other teams have veterans like Umeniora or Jason Taylor who deserve their long tenures and pay. Its quite embarassing a guy of his caliber has been a fixture on our D for almost a decade. Very very embarassing.

And he's not just a fixture... he was the only Bills defender who was on the field for EVERY DEFENSIVE PLAY, according to this review:

    http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/9/15/1689509/dolphins-15-bills-10-comprehensive

Note the comments on missed tackles at the end of that article... also calls out Kelsay.

  3. We had the least offensive yardage out of any team by the numbers, we had more "3 and Out" scenarios than any other team by the numbers, our time of posession was less than any other team in the NFL this past week, and you try to claim that were not the worst team of the lot offensively in week 1? Yes there were some bland games out there in week 1, but none of those other teams had quite the ineptitude on offense that the Bills had. My hat is completely off to George Edwards and the defense for even keeping that game close. Last year's team would've given up 2 touchdowns to top it off in the 4th. Our defense held it together despite being on the field almost a full quarter longer than the offense. We made the media and chatter-boxes look like they actually knew what they were talking about in week 1. I only hope that Gailey can get the offense going from here on out.

Right. Also, the Bills had zero possessions in the red zone. The Fish had just 2, which reflects the D's performance (although Miami converted almost half its 3rd downs). I believe Gailey will adjust and get some production from this crew, but I also think the Bills are in the bottom 25% of the league, easily.

  4. I thought Edwards had awful pocket awareness today.

Yeah the line was bad but it wasn't like they were collapsed on every play, many times they created enough of a pocket for Trent to make a play but he simply refused or in most cases felt pressure that wasn't there.

It seemed like any flash of white and Edwards flushed out as fast as he could.

I appreciate that Edwards refused to slide on a couple of running plays but I still maintain Trent has never been the same since his Arizona destruction.

He is terrified of a blindside hit.

Yes! He'll never shake the Cap'n Checkdown tag this way. Is he mentally able to feel the pressure and react without abandoning ship? It doesn't seem like it. Kelso made a good point on the radio call today... it would be good to roll him out to cut the field in half, make it simpler for him so he doesn't have to see the whole field. That would also help the batted balls problem.

  5. Gus Johnson is FAN-tastic.....I don't mind the MNF crew.....but if you really want a voice that is soothing, listening to a Dodger game with Vin Scully is pure heaven....

OK we're wandering off the gridiron... but Vin is the best baseball play-by-play guy of all time, hands down.

"In a year that has been so improbable, the IMPOSSIBLE has happened!"

Can any football announcing moment touch this? Sadly, no. Van Miller's call of the end of The Comeback was pretty sweet, but it's not in this category.

I think where announcers start to suck... they look to insert themselves into moments. The great ones do this without effort.

  6. Well just because no one else is saying it, Al Micheals has been at the top of the mountain for a long time, and deservedly so.

    Michaels/Madden perhaps all time greatest.

Yikes. I know this is purely a matter of taste, but I think Al Michaels has become very irritating, and Madden should have hung up the mic about 10 yrs earlier than he did. That pairing was lousy.

  7. It's also fun to listen to the team's radio announcers using NFL Audio Pass... it's amazing how bad some of the announcers are. Examples: Myron Cope in Pittsburgh, who has finally retired... the analyst for Cincy (Dave Lapham) is really bad. The guys who do Chicago Bears radio are pretty good. But speaking of the gold standard...

Van Miller. Everyone's grandpa, and you still hear him often in NFL Films work.

BTW - Someone please pat me on the back -- I am no longer on probation. :D

  8. There's no great pairing out there IMO. I think Kenny Albert & Moose Johnston are pretty good, but they are ruined by the moron Tony Siragusa. I think Mike Tirico and Jaws are pretty good, but Gruden's "I'm a doofus" speech pattern is really irritating. Gus Johnson is outstanding, but has no help (not that he really needs it).

It's a shame that Marv Albert and Boomer Esiason have been relegated to Westwood One on the radio... they're very good. I think Marv Albert is the best announcer of all time - he can do any sport.

  9. If you want to know the extent of Peter King's football knowledge, read this:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/peter_king/news/2000/01/26/ten_things/

"If I'm New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft, I have to say no to Bill Belichick now, hire Tom Donahoe to run the football side of business, and get on with my life. Because if I'm Bob Kraft, this is the thought process going through my mind today as the Jets stonewall my compensation offer for Belichick and refuse to budge from their demand of New England's first-round draft choice in April's draft: I am willing to give a man with a coaching record of 37-45 full authority over all my football operations by naming him coach and general manager. I am willing to pay him in excess of $3 million a year. And now I have to throw in my first-round pick? I'm already without my fourth-round pick this year, and I'm sure to lose a couple of valued players like Tedy Bruschi and Shawn Jefferson in free agency. Now I have to throw in the pick that could become Ron Dayne and may solve our dilemma at running back for the next five years? Maybe I wait a couple more days for the Jets to budge. Assuming they don't, I get on with my life."

 So great! Peter King is a fatuous windbag with no meaningful insight. The "Kissing Suzy Kolber" blog features a hilarious line-by-line mocking of his weekly column that's a fun read.

A few moments after the snap, you can see that because all three backs start lined up fairly far back, even though they are pass-blocking, their initial moves are all to charge forward - it still looks like a run play. Edwards adds to the affect with a play-action move.

It's easy to see that both corners (and the safety in this backfield view picture) are still looking into the backfield expecting run.

#93 Freeney isn't even heading towards Edwards - he's shooting down right along the back of the offensive line - probably looking to disrupt Spiller who he expects to be going there, but instead makes himself easy pickings for Stupar's block and is no threat at all to Edwards.

    Magnificent. Great post.

  11. I think the OL has been serviceable in recent years, when it comes to run-blocking. The D's inability to get key stops -- that put our offense in obvious passing situations, where the line was terrible.

If the D can't get critical 3rd down stops, and we end up in more obvious passing situations, we'll be in the same boat. When a defense isn't sure what we're doing with Spiller (see the Clemson highlights of him running those screens and 20+ yard pass plays singled up against linebackers!)... that's when things will get fun.

In case the above link doesn't persist:

    Bucky Brooks

Offense will show signs of improvement under new coach Chan Gailey, but Bills will still land in division cellar.

Prediction: 4-12, last in AFC East

    Vic Carucci

Chan Gailey could be a coaching upgrade, but he can't overcome the lack of a legitimate starting quarterback and offensive line problems.

Prediction: 2-14, last in AFC East

    Pat Kirwan

Could be tough year for Bills, who changed coaches, lost their leading receiver and top pass rusher, and have banged-up backs.

Prediction: 4-12, last in AFC East

    Jason La Canfora

QB and LT situations are scary. Roster is overloaded at some positions, woefully thin at others. At least C.J. Spiller will entertain.

Prediction: 2-14, last in AFC East

    Michael Lombardi

My lock to have the first pick in the 2011 draft; welcome to Buffalo, Jake Locker.

Prediction: 2-14, last in AFC East

    Steve Wyche

QB, offensive line and running back are all issues. They have nice pieces on D, but didn't upgrade as much as the competition.

Prediction: 3-13, last in AFC East

I feel like Nixon making his list. ;)
