  1. It is indeed difficult to compare FitzyClaus & Jim Kelly individually, because of their supporting casts on both sides of the ball. However, I'd be interested to know what the difference was, given the time they had the ball (a time-of-possession comparison). The bend-but-don't-break D of the Kelly years seemed to be on the field a lot, especially when the K-gun was in top form and scoring quickly. Of course, if FitzyClaus doesn't start piling up the wins, there's not a lot of point in comparing them.

  2. For all reasons stated, I'd be stunned if Jim Harbaugh took the Miami job (which, incidentally, isn't vacant -- so much class in the Miami FO). However, I would love to see it happen, because he probably wouldn't fare all that well, and it would provide Reason #185 to hate them a little more.

It is great to see Miami's FO openly undermining their current head coach though. That's gotta be great for the locker room.

  3. I would be totally upset if we kept Poz especially on the heels of throwing money away at Kelsey.

Poz is a liability in the heart of our defense. The sooner he is replaced the better our defense will be.

He is just too soft. Can't stop the run at the point of impact. Can't cover tight ends. Can't shed blocks but boy can he sell t-shirts.

Ya -- how many times did we see Poz running behind a tight-end on his way into the end zone this season? Far, far too many.

  4. I am planning a career change here in a couple years and I think I have what it takes to be a legitamate sports print journalist. I did not major in journalism. but I has always done real good in English and my sports knowledge about every sport but soccer is unmatched by almost anybody on TSW

I am not trying to brag I am just trying to be confident and I hope you guys will offer me encouagement

You went to school with Leo Roth -- he's no spring chicken, so I'm thinking this is a pretty late career change for you. Big Cat is right - expect to be criticized harshly, to work for free and bust your hump...which can be tough unless you are independently wealthy.

Of course, now I'm wondering if you are actually Leo Roth, and having some fun by saying you "has always done real good in English."

If you are in fact Leo Roth, please take note:

    The pseudo-poignant one sentence paragraph.

    Or sentence fragment.

    To end an article.

    Is overused.

    And trite.

  5. The career of journalism isn't what it used to be. That said those who became columnists usually had to work their way up the ladder to get that plum job. The idea was that those who would write opinions would base them on a body of knowledge and connections gained over years. Unfortunately in more than a few cases those jobs went to cynical blowhards with an ax to grind.

On the other extreme are the bloggers. There is no degree or license required. A computer and a webpage is all you need. Some bloggers are great. Some of you know I'm a big fan of Coach Sal. The guy has a football background and breaks down what the Bills do rather than just goes off on a mindless rant. Then there are posers like Pat Moran at BuffaloSportsDaily.com. I don't know him personally but my sense of him is he is a wannabe who "reports" what other sites and reporters say and acts like he's some kind of legit journalist.

So yeah, in 2011 there probably isn't much separating the pros from the amateurs except for access. Teams only grant access to media they consider legitimate. It's very hard, if not near impossible, for a blogger to get big-league media credentials. There's a number of reasons. One, there is only so much room for media at One Bills Drive. Two, where do you draw the line with people who can literally show up one day and say they are the press? And three, NFL credentials make you legitimate so they are not about to let any knucklehead into the club.

    PTR

And if Peter King shows up, his ego and butt take up at least two more seats.

  6. Anyone getting starter's jack and gets beat out by Tebow is not someone I'd make a run at. Draft a QB and groom him behind Fitzy.

This... although his injury provided Tebow's opportunity, right? Either way, Orton isn't enough of an upgrade from Fitzy Claus.

I had a Harry Caray moment: Spell Orton backwards and you get "Notro"... Orton no tro in Buffalo!

  7. Ebay is probably your best bet. I think redbubble.com is a site for people to sell their art as well (although it might be intended for artists' portfolios, etc.). Worth a look.

Did your wife eventually understand the situation? Did you explain that her gift to you (though well intentioned, generous, and thoughtful) was akin to you offering your wife her favorite flower, dipped in a turd?

I know your situation is a bit difficult... but I gotta say, outside looking in, it's pretty hilarious. I bet I see your scene in a movie someday. :)

Must also say -- let's give it up for Mrs. Billsfaninvgs for being down with putting up football art in the living room! That's a conversation that would go nowhere in my house.

  8. I'm in the DC area too.

In recent years there have been several threads about Bill's fans losing interest in their team... I have to admit that I fall in that category. (Tho this season is rekindling the excitement!) I get more pleasure watching the Redskins fail as a franchise, and listening to the recriminations on talk radio midway through the season, than I generally do following a Bills win... and every few years I wait with fingers crossed and baited breath to see if the latest coach will work out, hoping it is merely the latest chapter in dysfunctionality.

The interesting thing is that this is not uncommon in DC, with so many transplants from other areas of the country. The nonstop blather in the local media about Redskin tradition really gets on our nerves.

Same here. Doc Walker won't stop pontificating...

  9.

Then when he was first coming to Buffalo with his mentor (can't remember his name) it was a dead give away that we made the wrong pick !! Who ever made the final decision to pick Maybin over Orapko & Mathews needs to be :censored: slapped !!!!!!!!!! Then fired !!!!!!!!!!

I think that mentor was Lavar Arrington.

  10. As Doc says above me Dean, only relevant he he wants to paid like he is still an elite player at his position. I think he has played well this year, and should be paid well, but not like an elite saftey

Exactly. BTW I hate twitter more every day.

  11. All depends on what you want your #1 WR to do. If you want him to stretch the field, get behind safeties, work 1 on 1 with a corner on sideline routes, then Lee will do fine. If you want your #1 WR to go over the middle, Lee is probably not your guy.

Agree with reddog though... somehow I am not all that worried about the WR position.
