It's coping.  MOST opposing fans don't care what happens to JA - maybe a few, but it's not like "gosh, I wish he'd protect himself more!"

What are some names of QB's at Allen's level whose careers have been shortened?  Cam Newton is the main one everyone cites - but Allen's game is NOT that similar to Newton's. Even in their running style.  But Newton would still be a viable QB if he had some of JA's other skills.  He just can't throw the ball that accurately or well.

I can't really think of other top QB's who had to retire early or anything, or who dropped off a cliff later in their career because of running more than average.  Maybe Romo?

RGIII… I know this take is likely to be met with derision, but I thought EJ’s career was headed in the right direction until Tashaun Gipson (had to look it up) blasted his knee on a scramble as he was heading out of bounds in a night game in Cleveland. He was never the same QB after that, in my opinion.

Obviously, every player and situation is different, but I can’t get that EJ injury out of my head when I see defensive players hitting Josh low.

I once heard he threw a ball to Fred Jackson to take it to the 1 and kick the field goal winner!  1st time the Bills beat the Pats in 87 years!

I think you nailed it with “below what we have come to expect.”

And the fact that we’re a long-cursed (seemingly) and championship starved fan base, it only heightens the emotions and overreactions.  When the start of every season begins with ‘THIS is our year,’ we’ve already built these expectations in our head. I’m guilty of not sleeping on my thoughts sometimes!

The NFL has been such a QB-driven league for a long time - a couple decades now.  When I think about what the Bills would be if they stepped down to just average at the QB position - even during this rut - it’s not a pretty picture. Essentially, Allen’s WAR has to be exceptionally high even during an injury-induced slump. Call me sentimental, but it makes me a grateful fan. Lived through a lot of disasters at the QB position post-Kelly.

I think it is a fair critique to say that Allen's play in the last few games has been very up and down. The interceptions, poor RZ play, tipped balls, etc...

If it wasn't for Allen's ability to run, his play would be downright awful.

Now whether it is his elbow, mental, bad OL play, or poor offense design by Dorsey...who knows?

I think “downright awful” is a hyperbole. They are putting up roughly 30 points a game. “Below what we have come to expect from Josh”, I’m willing to grant.

But “downright awful” when 25+ franchises would gladly accept the output in a rut?  Makes me wonder if there is a loss of perspective…

Didn't watch but what I see is we're gutting out wins when we should probably blow these teams out. That being said, I think it makes us more tough and playoff ready. What adversity have the Chiefs faced other than losing Hill? Josh's arm is not 100% at all, maybe 80%. I think we're going to take flight come playoff time. Just my feelings. Hopefully, Von is back by then too.

Honestly, the Chiefs have had their fair share of wars themselves. Half their wins have been by three points or less - over a Titans team in OT we blew out, over a Raiders team that has been scuffling all year, and against the under-achieving Chargers twice. The Chiefs also lost to a dysfunctional Colts team in week 3.  The Chiefs are hardly dominating and are, in fact, vulnerable, especially with a rash of injuries on offense.

Not really thinking there was a need for this thread.

There’s been frustration, but most people have pointed out the following:

    Elbow injury

    Mid-season swoon last year

    WR’s not stepping up

Dorsey struggling so far in his first year

Allen also deserves some criticism for trying to do too much, but most here qualify that with one, or more, of the above statements.

I think there are some of us that - while clearly not himself - Josh is still engineering an offense still putting up 30-ish points a game in an offseason rut.  I mean, that’s plenty to win in the NFL.  After the weekend, will be interesting to see what our scoring offense is per game since the bye (when  Josh started scuffling a bit in the second half of the Pack game) or even since the Viking game (post elbow injury).  I suspect we are top 3 or 5 across either timeframe. So, while the eye test says “Josh/offense isn’t clicking on all cylinders”, the results still say “elite”.

I will say this, if Josh was not behind center, the game plan for this offense would have to totally change from what it is now or you would possibly see 10 sacks

How can you say that? They were only down their two best offensive lineman (Morse and Dawkins) and Spencer Brown hasn’t looked right since he returned from his injury. But still…

Ok, two things - 1) why can we not RB/TE screen. We are a passing team, d-line’s are pinning their ears back, and we are down o-linemen. Why not use their aggression against them, 2) when we are so unsettled on the o-line, why not move the pocket for Josh? He looked like he did not trust the patchwork line and wanted to be on the run to make throws or run for much of the game. Why not move the pocket to take advantage of all this? Anyway…

I feel like social media has taught people that venting their most base human emotions on the internet is acceptable. It’s the only explanation I have for the fact that fans are more miserable now on this board than what I saw during the Fitzpatrick/Gailey era. Not really close. It’s weird. They win and people are miserable.

Here’s what we have: Despite all that happened today, when we got the ball at the 25 with 26 seconds and 3 timeouts, I had no doubt. We’ve never had someone like him (Kelley, maybe). Someone that no matter the circumstances, we still have real chance. Even in the three losses, he gave us a chance to win at the end. Just enjoy folks, just enjoy.

Dude is a unicorn. Dude throws a 40 yard dot with a bum elbow and when they need a first down to get the kicker closer for the winner, the run QB power. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like Elway on steroids.

Yes. We scored more than the other team. Hence, we won. Deservedly so. WTH were you watching!?!

The pileup of injuries is absurd. If someone told me two weeks ago that Mike Love, Bobby Hart, Greg Van Roten, Tanner Gentry, and AJ Klein would have to give us meaningful snaps in the same game on a short week, I’d say that we’d be in serious trouble.

Our top 3 pass rushers are now out.

We are going to have to grind out some wins in sloppy games. It’s just where this roster is right now.

We didn't deserve it imo.  Deserving to win is capitalizing on the other teams errors, playing mistake free football and executing at a high level.

Missed extra points, turnovers in the red zone and multiple 3 and outs is not doing any of the the aforementioned points.

We got the win and I'm happy about that, but I can go back to the GameDay thread and quote many of you here that are now saying we deserved to win this game but we're far from saying that during the game.

We played like crap and won in spite of it.

Why does every game have to be a work of art exactly? The wins count the same, and along the way, we get to debunk the “Bills can’t win the one-score games and that clear ‘out-coaching’ will hold them back from the Super Bowl” nonsense.

We have to win by 30 or our coaches need to all get fired, also all our positions including backups need to be all pro players. No exceptions

We have to win every close game and simultaneously win by 30, while never committing a turnover or dropping a pass.

I hadn’t realized how far into la la land expectations got. Jesus Christ would get roasted on this board for a 3 and out.

I think the expectations have been too high all season. People really got into the superbowl favorite best roster in the league hype. Then of course they started out firing on all cylinders and looked pretty unstoppable. We had a thread about going undefeated.
As injuries piled up and chinks in the armor began to show we have hit a slump of bad play. Lot of that is on Allen. There’s posters who have been complaining all year the roster isn’t good enough, some much worse than others.
Every loss brings out the worst of the worst in fans.
It’s a long season, Buffalo was never going to play flawless ball for 17 games. Other teams that look amazing now may slump as well or have a rash of injuries. People probably are as sick of me typing this as I am in typing it, but you just need to get hot and start playing your best ball at the right time.
And they need a little luck on the health side of things as well. Big picture is not easy to see when you’re so caught up in the moment.

This post demonstrates rational and clinical thinking, if not wisdom and perspective.

Look, I’m as salty as anyone. I feel like if Buffalo beat the Chiefs we would have easily won the Super Bowl this year, but what happened to our Bills isn’t something that’s exclusive only to Buffalo. Let’s try not to make it out to be like we’re some cursed team and woe me!

It isn’t like this is something that’s new to the NFL. How long did the Cowboys get whooped on by the 49ers before they finally broke free and won three rings? How long did Elway, Aikman and Young have to battle through big losses before they finally won one?  And what a great group of guys to lump Allen in with, he’s going into his 5th year and the whole league is starting to recognize that Josh Allen is a prolific player and in 10-15 years this guy will be in the hall. I would be upset if we were a team like the Titans or the 49ers and this was our last shot, but Bills fans please bear this in mind, a true QB is hard to find. We have another 10-15 cracks at this.

The Bills/Chiefs rivalry reminds me SO much of the 49ers/Cowboys rivalry in the early to mid 90s. The Chiefs are like our big brother and in order for us to get a ring, we got to go through them, but let’s not act like this is impossible. I don’t care who you are or how good your team is, this is the NFL, you’re going to get whooped occasionally, every team in the NFL does.

How many times did Elway get knocked down before he won two back-to-back Super Bowls? He lost two Super Bowls in 87 and 88 (sound familiar?) but the dude did not give up, he kept on fighting for 10 years after that before finally winning TWO right before he retired! Bottom line is, even WINNERS get knocked down. The ONLY way you’re a loser is if you don’t get back up again.

My message to the Chiefs: See you again next year, we got a man child coming.

“I saw a man get beat like no man I ever saw before and the man…kept…coming…after you.”

    Allen is an assassin.
