  1. Wife works at GHM - it’ll be their internal professional staff (i.e. finance, HR, etc.) that’ll be “synergised” more so than the actual journalists, press operators, etc. The things that the combined company now has two of.

Well it is certain that local journalism just plain isn’t an important commodity in the market any longer, that will just continue to slow slide and not hasten in a meaningful way as a result.

  2. I’m actually pretty impressed with the near universal rebuke that a few embarrassing members of the community are receiving. Perhaps only 5 years ago, the comments would have been very, very different.

I makes me feel happy inside to know that the “lady isn’t hot enough for a sports talkin’ jerb”” Neanderthals are in their death throes, and much to their chagrin, will be all but eliminated in less than a generation’s time.

Also A+ to jizz mopper guy.

Let us continue to point and laugh at the zoo animals as they go kicking and screaming into the wrong side of history.

    Hurrah!

if you subscribe to NFL ST you should get all games unless blacked out in your area.   This will get resolved before the start of NFL season right now all your missing is Bachelorette 25, amazing race around the water, may other bull#### reality TV shows etc etc etc

Don’t be so sure. ABC has been gone since an hour before Game 1 of the NBA Finals with no end in sight. CBS gone for a month.

Lots of people are going to be to be very surprised when they can’t see the preseason Bills games on ABC nor the regular season ones on CBS. Even more fun when the Sunday Ticket channel for the game is blacked out and Game Search brings you over to the “We are as frustrated as you are!” blackout screen.

betting the over/under wins in vegas isnt my thing because its just not worth it....put $500 down and only double your money? I could put $500 in stock/investment right now and do better by January than by betting that on the Bills.

But yes, I am certainly taking the over on that win total...its laughable really.

Are you saying that you could invest that in the market and return 100% by January?

If you are saying that the expected return of most sports bets is around -5% and you can do better than that, I agree.

I've been making proclamations for 20yrs I've been right @ least 70% of the time.  That's my opinion maybe I'm right maybe I'm wrong but Singletary will not live up to his 3rd rd grade . I'll even go one further fans on this board will be unhappy about this pk for quite some time and they'll be talking about players like Winovich and Sternberger amongst others of players we missed on.

    David Boston....zzzzz

Not a DK guy, but using Boston as the counter-point doesn't really do what you think it does.

Boton's athletic gifts ABSOLUTELY translated to the NFL, as evidenced by his 2001 season where he caught a hundred passes for 1600 yards and 8 TDs - the 22nd best single season for any receiver in NFL history.

His failings, unfortunately, were more of a personal nature than a physical one, and he never got to fully live his potential.

I honestly didn't and still don't believe we needed to add to the RB stable this year. While Shady and Gore aren't getting any younger, I'm not sure what Singletary might add for this year specifically and beyond that another third round pick could at another position.

I think that sometimes it is a good idea to build your roster with an eye to the future, and not always make reactionary picks as holes develop (the "whack a mole" approach).

  8. There are a bunch of different kinds of speed - the 40 measures only straight line top end raw speed.  Which is super important and I think in pretty much every case, the faster the better.  But, it isn't the whole story as running backs rarely get a 40 yard lane to accelerate through.  Acceleration in particular is the trait that most people think of when they watch "fast" players on the field.

Kareem Hunt is an oft-cited example - he ran about the same 40 time as Singletary and I don't know many people who wouldn't call hunt "fast" - he broke plenty of long touchdowns.  Their 20 yard short shuttle and 3-cone times were also fairly similar.

Not to say that Singletary's measurables will translate to the field in the exact same way, but why not cross our fingers and hope for the best.

I said before, if Singletary ran 2 blinks faster, he'd have been a top 10 pick.

I love the bills draft for the most part. The 1st 2 picks were a dream scenario. I'm struggling a bit with the two 3rd rounders.

I think we're in an era where combine numbers dominant discussion. Singletary's #s are lackluster but what don't they don't capture is his elite vision. Shady and Faulk had rare vision where they saw the entire field and used to maximize their yards. Obviously much debate in this 28 page thread about this.

So say we went another route with our 1st 3rd rounder and didn't move up for Knox. What ifs don't really matter except for discussion purposes on a message board.

What if our picks shook out like so:

    3.11: Winovich - EDGE

    4.10: Bryce Love - RB

    4.35: Moreau -  TE

Would the masses prefer this outcome to Singletary/Knox?

That scenario certainly benefits from the hindsight of now knowing exactly where everyone else was picked (a luxury that GMs don't have while the draft is in progress), but I think the masses would have generally been in favor of that as well.

Definitely would be taking a considerably worse TE prospect (imo), and taking a RB that almost certainly won't play in 2019 due to lingering issues with his surgically repaired knee.  Winovich seems like a solid edge prospect that was worthy of selection.

I would like nothing more than to revert to "Hopeful" about the Bills!

Make the choice to be happy and hopeful.  We've spent the last 10 years seeing monsters under the bed (turns out they were under there too, unfortunately).  I'm choosing to expect this team to compete for a championship this year.  It'll be more fun for me that way :)

Well, that's certainly the approach we're following.

I think there's an argument to be made that several potentially good QB have been ruined by lack of protection early in their career.  But others have countered with the belief that a QB who is ruined by taking a pounding really wasn't all that.  Another argument is that a rookie QB's best friend is a great rushing attack, since it forces the D to be multi-dimensional.

It's sort of an "article of faith" either way since one never gets to "do the experiment" by taking two equivalent rookie QB and providing one with the 2016 Dallas Cowboys OL and Zeke Elliot, and another with the 2018 Bills OL and RBs, and seeing what happens.

Certainly a well-reasoned post that I can't really take exception to.  Though one could make an argument that Dak Prescott having a starting NFL QB gig lends some credence to the premise that a stud OL can help make a QB thrive.  You know, cuz he stinks :)

You're right though, it's all a philosophical thing, and there are hundreds of variables that can't be controlled for.  Things change, players come and go, get injured, and new crops of players enter the league every year.  It's a dynamic thing, but I at least think we're _TRYING_ to do something methodical and reasonable, as opposed to what at times seemed to be randomly adding players willy nilly.

I may have overlooked a few Dawson Knox, and Devin Singletary types, but that's because they're terrible, and have little chance of turning into successful pros. -What's the point of using useful picks on kids bound for the the practice squad?  -It's absurd. -Which is probably why you support it.

This this just an attempt to say that third/fourth round picks generally don't tend to be lead pipe locks to be successful NFL players, or a shot at the guys we took in particular?

Care to toss out a couple guys taken after them in the third/fourth that you are certain will be NFL stars?

Can't tell if you're just making a statement about the odds of these later picks succeeding (which I generally agree with), or that we puked on ourselves and left the studs sitting out there (more dubious of this claim)...

A plan that depends upon a single UDFA proving out is probably not a good plan.  I don't think that's their plan - I think they are hoping for solid production from Brown and Cole Beasley (who are both guys that can play, albeit on their downward slide), as well as Foster taking the edge off for Zay.  If the OL is "all that", and we have a reliable run game this year, it may be OK - but it does depend upon Foster as well as Brown and Beasley still having "get up and go" for the game.

It's really still about the OL, IMO.

IMO, I can embrace the following approach to building a competent NFL offense:

    1. Acquire a good QB

    2. Protect said QB

    3. Acquire weapons for said QB

Sometimes you try to shortcut the process and and get the weapons first (*cough watkins*), but this is how I'd approach things.  #3 becomes easier in free agency when you take care of #1 and #2 as well.  Not saying we 100% have accomplished #1 and #2, but I have reason to be optimistic.
