  1. It's starting to feel like the safest picks in the draft are McClain and Bulaga. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Hampton or another FA here at NT. Stroud-Hampton-Williams wouldn't be the worst thing in the world....if #99 decided he felt like playing this year. Back that up with Maybin, McClain, Poz & Mitchell and the front 7 is at least credible.

  2. With all due respect...it's one of the dumbest ideas I've seen on this board. All you do in trading Lee Evans is create a hole. Good player. Great attitude and work ethic. Let's trade him. We MAY not have the QB, but let's not give him a chance by removing everyone who knows how to run a route and catch the ball. You see what happpen when we traded Peters....like him or hate him...he was good. And we did not have a good back up. Keep "good" unless you have another....

  3. You guys realize the Free agent market is going to suck right? Two tags for all teams to use so you can cut the stud players down to pretty much ZERO without giving up draft picks. And you can bet your asses they will be tagging the crap outta guys with no cap in place. this also puts a premium on draft picks this year so they aren't going to let studs walk without compensation.

also a ton of URFA's will now be RFA's due to the rule change of not having a cap. So I don't see the Bills doing much of anything at all in Free agency and I don't blame them. I would NOT under ANY Circumstances trade away any picks this year.

    Amen.

  4. Ticket prices are split 60/40 between home and away teams. Thus, opposing (away) teams have an interest in the home team's ticket prices. It's a big difference if Buffalo plays in the new Giants stadium versus the Jets playing in Buffalo.

Owners want the highest revenues, and there's a battle brewing between some of the big market guys like Jones and small teams like Buffalo. Goodell needs to do something fairly quick on this front and revenue sharing isn't enough.

Understood. My point being: We do not need a new stadium to raise ticket prices. And if the arguement is for better luxury boxes, it gets the other owners nothing. So just raise our ticket prices and leave us be. That city, state and team is not going to build a new stadium. Period.

  5. One of Goodell's main responsibilities is to increase league revenue. And the best way to accomplish this remains for franchises to have new stadiums which typically charge more for tickets and include more high priced luxury boxes.

Over the past 15 years, 20 teams have constructed new stadiums. Additionally, KC, CHI, and GB have made huge renovations to existing parks. That's nearly 3/4 of the NFL with new or significantly upgraded homes.

    NFL Stadiums

The commissioner is responsible for the league's health, not individual franchises like Buffalo. He'll step up the pressure on teams like SD, OAK, SF, and BUF to build new homes as a result. Problem is, we all know neither the state or local government have the funding to assist Buffalo. Unless the next owner is willing to spend their own money on a field (in addition to the team purchase price) I can't see the team remaining in WNY.

I thought gate revenues are split and luxury box revenue goes directly to each owner. Since we're full, how does a new stadium help owners... unless they raise prices significantly.

  6. Good WRs touch the ball 8 times a game. Bad QBs still touch the ball 50 times. Bad OTs will get the QB killed. And if you have a bad defense, what's the point?

All good teams go from inside out. I hope they draft not one WR this year. Not Benn. Not Thomas. Shipley...NOT ONE.

  7. The likelihood of finding a quality starting QB outside the top two rounds is slim. There are always exceptions, but it's rare for a guy to come out of the 3rd round and below or via the UDFA ranks.

Of the NFL starting QB's in 2009, I count Warner, M. Hasselbeck, Bulger, Delhomme, Romo, Orton, Cassel, Gradkowski, Schaub, Garrard, Edwards/Fitzpatrick, and Brady as the only signal callers who were acquired below the 2nd round. And I'd say only 2-3 of those guys are quality.

In contrast, from 1999-2008, 93 QB's were taken in rounds 3-7. And yet, in 2009, only Brady and Schaub are what I would consider dependable or better QB's. That's not a good ratio if you're looking to find a QB below round 2. I'm not going to review UDFA signings for the same period, but if Warner and Romo are the only examples, I'm sure they're in the minority as well.

    QB's taken - Draft History

The flip side is that 33 QB's were drafted in round 1 from 1999-2008 with huge financial commitments and only 15 are NFL starters...and I'm not even adding in the 1st rounders that were TRADED by some stupid franchises for QBs.

  8. GB drafted Brohm because they thought him the BPA at that point in the draft. Favre was turning 38 in 07 and Rodgers had completed his 2nd NFL season of not playing behind #4.

It just so happens that Rodgers is one of the top QB's in the NFL after being an apprentice for 3 seasons. Still, for GB to miss on Brohm in the 2nd is alarming, especially because an unheralded 7th round pick beat him up. Draft equity being what it is, when a 7th beats a 2nd, that's not good.

And then Mr. Exception chimes in and says it doesn't matter where someone is drafted and cites Brady, Warner, Romo. But check where the majority of the starting QB's were taken. You guessed it, the first round or second rounds.

Checked stats. About 20 starting QBs drafted in 1st or 2nd round with 9 QBs drafted in the top 10 (10 if you call J Russell a starter)

  9. The guy is a bust because nobody in the league wanted him in September when Green Bay waived him. Sorry, but I have a lot more respect of the opinions of some of the top professional talent evaluators in the business than I do of any amateurs on this board, you and myself included.

If he has such a "big arm" why do scouting report after scouting report, including the one that is the basis of this thread downgrade his arm strength?

The Green Bay wanted him stuff is getting pretty old-they didn't think enough of him to not offer him for free to anyone who wanted him back in September. Just because they offered to match the Bills 2 year deal as an insurance policy late in the season doesn't indicate any real interest in keeping him as anything but a guy who knew their offense. They always had 3 QBs around this year & after the guy who replaced Brohm on the practice squad signed with Stl, they signed another guy to the PS who was later signed to the winter roster. Nobody with your premise has ever been able to answer a question I've posed, please try: If Green Bay was so high on Brohm, why didn't they try & exceed the Bills offer in both years & dollars? The Packers only tried to keep their 2009 insurance policy in place, nothing more as evidenced by their lack of making Brohm an offer that would have kept him away from the Bills.

You're right, we have for pennies, but I would hardly call a guy that the finest football minds in the business all passed on putting a waiver claim on as a guy with great upside.

The worst thing that the Brohm advocates do is settle for mediocrity. Brohm is ok to keep around as a player who you can pencil in as your #3 QB next year, but if we go to camp with him having any shot at the starting job, then team management has failed us, the fans, and Ralph Wilson the owner, by not acquiring a QB who really has an upside, or is a proven veteran. To go into next August with a camp of Fitzpatrick, Brohm, Edwards or a mid-round pick & possibly Hamdan is too sickening to even realistically think about. I trust that Buddy will not do that & will make a bold move to get a QB that is not just someone else's trash.

If I am not mistaken, when you claim someone off waivers, you assume his contract, which might have been tough for some teams to absorb in early September, after all of their tough decisions have been made. I think this is a great thread. Our debates will not determine this kid's path, but the pre-draft scouting report does give some reason for optimism. Hey we have less info on Brohm than TE and the door is not completely closed on TE. How can it be closed on Brohm??

  10. I didn't say he was the answer, just the best QB right now on the roster. I'd like to see McNabb or Thigpen brought in, but if not, Fitz and Brohm should compete for the job. Those calling for Trent I just don't understand.

I guess I'll just say I disagree. Fitz hasn't put up good numbers since the Wunderlic and I think if you take each QB at his highest potential, he's by far the worst.

  11. +1. Come on guys, I can't believe these discussions are going on. You don't look at stats, you look at wins. Fitz is clearly the better player. He makes bigger, game-winning plays. AND - he played well in the snow. Something Trent has NEVER done. Doesn't matter that we were not playing the real Colts, he was out there throwing the ball well in the snow and didn't look like he wanted run into the locker room and get under his blanky.

And to answer the OP's question (what ever happened to Trent) - he was sacked by the Arizona Cardinals and never was the same. Unfortunate for him but he showed us all a lot by not being able to come back from that. Every NFL QB takes a hit like that at some point and most come back from it.

As Adam Schein would say, "If Ryan Fitzpatrick is the answer, I'd sure like to know the question".

  12. Fitz has 23 NFL starts and Edwards has 30 NFL starts. Plenty of time to see what they have to offer. I think both of these players are backups at best. Can anyone here really see either one of these guys playing consistent enough to make the playoffs? IMO, it could never happen.

Bills fans can find any excuse they want but all of our QBs are junk. No QB on the roster has ever shown great promise at the NFL level. Watch talented young QBs playing on other NFL teams and you will see what I'm talking about. We get all giddy when a guy shows up and stinks a little bit less than the last. Losman, TE, Fitz, Collins, Johnson, and Holcomb are all the same person.

My point was Fitz has more BAD starts in his 23 than TE in his 30. I mean..he was awful in Cincy...You may be right on the end evaluation. This year will tell on TE.
