  1. Sorry Bills fans I hate to break the news, you guys are smart right? Then you all should know Trent Edwards will be the Bills QB in 2010. Say what you want, they may draft a QB but no way they will WASTE a draft pick on a veteran when this team is rebuilding.Come on dudes wake up Trent edwards will be the Bills starting QB, I dont like it, but whatever, Im just pulling for the Sabres, actually Im pulling for team USA and Ryan Miller at the moment! Say what you want but TE will be the Bills QB in 2010 unless Sam Bradford falls to us, we draft him, and Edwards gets hurt, which is a very good possibilty

How soon we forget . When Trent had some thing that resembled an NFL caliber O line in 08 - 09 every body thought he was the future, put him behind a O- line that Marino , either Manning or Favre couldn't make look good and we are all ready to throw him to the wolves , what's up with that - Oh ye of little faith !! If any one can make Trent or Bromm work --Chan Can -- Go Bills !!

  2. There I said it...

I know Lee is a great player, I know he is a great team player, I know he still has productive years ahead. I hate the bills underutilize him. I am a huge fan of his work ethic, and I do not blame his lack of offensive output on him or his abilities.

    That said-

This franchise is years away from having a solid QB situation, the Line is still problematic and even with a reputable second threat, he was still underutilized. There are plenty of receivers in the league that can put up a 600 yard season. Lee is the Ferrari we can’t drive over 35 m.p.h. and won’t have the ability to until he starts breaking down himself.

Meanwhile, Lee is in his prime. He is the 2 or 3rd highest paid WR in the league. I suspect there are a number of teams that believe they are one Lee Evans away from a ring. Manning could use Evans to replace the void left by Harrison as one example, there are more. (SD, NE- though I would never advocate it, etc.)

That sounds like the Jauron theory (lets take away the whole O line and put in a new one and see how good we'll be ). I think Chan will use our skill players better & we have to have some kind of threat some where on the team .

I argue he is one of the Bills with the most external value and his low productivity on the bills (due to QB , scheme, cast) would be most easily replaced by a serviceable veteran, journeyman or 4th-6th round rookie.

  3. Dan Lefevour: 53 games, 66.4% completion pct., 12,000 yds passing, 102 TD's, 36 INT's, 142.9 QB rating

The man ROCKS !! This is buffalo's future !!! Why is it so hard to see ?? They say Bradford is supposed to go in the first round , he played in a spread offense like plus he was out a year with an injury & yet Lefevour barely get's a mention , (maybe that's a good thing) & he must be durable 53 starts & he rushed for over 2500 yards too !!

  4. The Chargers got lucky to draft Brees in the second round, after every other team passed on him. I don't think they would have traded him if not for his injury, so getting LT for a HOF career, and ending up with Rivers after trading Brees certainly proves that the Chargers are a smart team compared to most when it comes to personnel. However, it was Brees who got the SB win as game MVP playing for the Saints, while the Chargers still have not gotten into a SB since they traded Drew in 2006.

    BRAVO DUDE Nicely Put

  5. why is bradford worth #9, but clausen in not, just cause you say so?

No Just cause Clausen s--ks !! He's nothing special !! But i don't believe 1st rounders are worth the risk or the money !! The Jets , New England & Miami for all that matters have spent the money in the trenches first and look what there QB's have done , put any one of them behind our line last year and let's see what they do then . The only one that i've seen that has great scrambling skills , decent arm strength , was a winner in college !! (went to a bowl game all 4 yrs I believe ?) and has played in elements that resemble the Ralph is Lefevor out of CMU or possibly McCoy but he'll be gone . We could probably get him in the third round (less money) and focus on the O-line he could learn the system and this year we could see if Edwards or Bromm could do anything with Chan teaching them. We were all thinking 2 yrs ago when we had something that resembled a O-line that Trent was the man (how soon we forget) i think he got some what of a bad rap this year although his durability is in question . But think about it what QB if any could play behind the line we had last year ?? Teams are built from the line play up alla Kent Hull , Wil Wolford , Bruce , Ted Washington, Reuben Brown , Phil Hanson & on & on & on !!!! That's my story & i'm stickin to it !!

  6. One year soon it's got to be AC DC !! Duh" FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK (FIRE) WE SALUTE YOU" !! Which i'm surprised that NBC didn't use that for the open on Sunday night But can you imagine at half time the whole stadiums dark and the bell toals at the beginning of Hells Bells ????? well that might be a little dark for the kids but , Especially if the Saints come " BACK IN BLACK " Well it's just a thought . I thought Aerosmith was one of the best shows !! Everyone says the Who and the rest of the past acts are to old but they're all legends . The only others big enough are Clapton or Floyd !! and i don't think Floyd will do it .

  7. While bringing in free agents is a great way to build a team, i also believe that the bills have not properly assessed some of the rookie players they have drafted in the last two years. Among the top of my list of players that I as a bills fan desire to see are Hardy and Nelson. The bills arent known for having extremely tall receivers until the TO experiment failed in Buffalo. Hardy was selected with the 41st overall pick out of Indiana in the 08 draft. He is 6'5'' and 220 lbs and is the tallest wide receiver ever drafted by the bills. He has tremendous athleic abilty and probably would have been more succesful than TO this past year if he hadnt been injured. Nelson is another tall receiver at Tight End. He was taken with the 121st pick in the 09 draft out of southern miss. He stands at 6'5'' and 240 lbs. Also has tremendous athletic ability.

I understand that signing free agents who have already proven themselves in the NFL is a much lower risk move and is much more appealing to a lot of owners. However it is not always practical and more importantly affordable. There MUST be a healthy balance between drafted and developed players along with free agent signings. While it would be wonderful to bring in a Chris Chambers or an Anquan Boldin, it also would be great to develop some young guys and raise their stock over the years. I realize that there are lots of drafted players that prove to be busts, especially in bills recent history. I would simply like to see James Hardy and Shawn Nelson a bit this year to make an accurate assesment. These Kids have a ton of potential. <_<

You can throw Steve Johnson in with them too ,in 08 when ever he was on the field he was catching the ball plus i think him being 6' 3" which is bigger than all these 5' 11" guys can't hurt any .

  8. Joey Porter gone in Miami, Vick being talked bout all day on WGR. Can we really go wrong w/ either?

I'm figuring they will hire Vick to do the same thing they did with T.O. --- sell tickets , I think it is a wrong move because they can use the money and talent else where on the team but given the recent past i believe that is what will happen .

  9. Quarterback progression comes in so many forms. Some guys like Brady or Roth-burger might experience success right away and grow from then on. Other guys like Kerry Collins or Rich Gannon may take half a career for the light to turn on.

I researched the data and one of the most prevalent turn around years for the better QB’s has been year four. Dozens of recent players have experienced more INT’s then TD’s, low completion%, poor yards a completion….Then year four hits, the numbers turn around and progression is shown throughout the rest of the career. Clearly a QB can look like two different people during even normal career progressions.

Some things about Trent I think to be true

    1. Trent is a smart person. He has a high degree of intelligence for an NFL QB

    2. Trent has been hit a ton with Stanford and Buffalo

    3. Trent has a very quick release

    4. Trent chooses to check down at a very high percentage

    6. Trent has shown he can be accurate

    7. Trent has shown he can lead 4th quarter comebacks

    7. Trent has not shown he's capable of generating a lot of points

    8. Trent has had poor direction and coaching, if nothing else from lack of consistency

    9. Trent has regressed

    10. Trent gets Injured

Trent is a smart guy, he picked up the system quickly. He was a blank slate. Being hit a ton at Stanford he developed one of the quickest releases in football. In that situation, his senior year, Stanford took a NCAA worst 50 sacks. So he also understood the value of checking it down. As a smart player he came in the NFL with the not to lose mentality any Rookie QB should have. He seemed to know his role precisely. Our sack rates dropped dramatically when he replaced JP. He moved the chains with short accurate throws, and yes, plenty of check downs. He even gave us actual hope by making big time NFL throws against Washington and Jacksonville. As time passed people wondered, why can't we score??????

It's part of the maturation of most quarterbacks to have some early success. The hard part is adjusting once the defensive coordinators have adjusted to you. At one point Trent knew his role precisely, now his role must change to create more down field opportunities. These changes were to be facilitated by the same coaching staff vilified on this board. Regardless of coaching, history shows this part of the transition to be the most difficult for any QB. If he makes it past this stage, he's a sure fire NFL QB. Not easy as we all know. What transpired was a major regression.

Once decisive Trent now looked confused. He was confused before this year started, but after the changes he must have been brain mush. No confidence ensued, it created interceptions, accuracy problems, poor decisions. The line was horrid, + his confusion = higher sack rates. All this eventually leading him back to a disgusting combination or the previously mentioned problems and his safety blanket, the check down. He was then injured and now in most fans eyes is a lost cause.

I don't know how Trent will do, the odds are far stacked against any QB, for Bills QB's....well...

But the point is the Trent we've watched and puked over is nowhere near the Trent he actually is. Last year he was a beaten, confused QB, but he is still the same QB that many thought was the answer. This is clearly the year the numbers show as the breakthrough year for QB. It wouldn't shock me one bit to see Trent surprise a lot of people on this board.

2008 was a decent year for Trent - but you take away the line he had (which wasn't great but was better than 2009) and decide to put together a make shift line alla Jauron and you throw in all the injuries , that is a disaster for any QB i don't care if your Elway or Marino - you give a QB like Trent some protection and a good offensive coach and there's no telling what he could do - Bill Walsh told Marv he was a good QB & i'd say he knows more than any of us !!

    Go Bills !!!

  10. Maybe its because we haven't had a real QB talent here in so long they think a staff should be able to polish a turd. I bring this up because we still have fans, even after all the proof on the field to the contrairy' that think Edwards is going to be the QB we need.

Edwards sucks. NO staff is going to be able to change what he is. Captain checkdown, oft injured, won't throw with anticipation or into tight coverage, ****ty throwing motion....in college and pros! You can't change what he is. Just like Collins, Hobart, JR, Flutie, Bledsoe (really going downhill when we got him), JP and now Edwards....ALL were nothing but BACKUP talent that the 'brain trust' at OBD though was starter quality.

But no matter what the proof, no matter how they failed its always 'the coaching' that is the problem. Well those guys listed went on to other teams and started a short while before teams (much quicker than the Bills) figured out they are nothing but backups at best and put them there. And still we had fans screaming that this guy or that guy just needs more time blah blah blah. NO THEY DONT! You will know in about 30 games or so if a guy has it or not IF that long. But we still have fans that fought like hell for this guy or that for some reason.

I am praying that Nix pulls the trigger and gets us some damn good talent in here to develop so we can put the QB issue (THE most important issue on a team) to rest finally.

You can have all the rest but Flutie (If given the team ) and the chance instead of after leading the team to the brink of the play offs and getting pulled the last game for that SO CALLED QB Rob J O Johnson !!! Flutie was an always will be a winner that guy had heart & i think it would've been a different out come if not for that brilliant decision , but i agree with the rest .

  11. I like everyone you mentioned. More expensive options are Wilfork and Casitllo at DT, and Merriman could play end or LB. The latter of the two may not be UFA with no CBA, Im not certain.

As far as QB goes, I would like to bring in Campbell and/or Jon Kitna for a year or two because I dont think we find our QB this draft. Other than that I wouldnt mind Quinn either in a trade.

They say Richard Seymor wants out of Oakland too ???

  12. I have advocated that we should stay a 4-3 D but give up the Tampa 2 aspect of it. Now I have been advocating for bringing in Derrick Johnson and Jason Ferguson to help the front 7 both guys are types of players that could be available Derrick Johnson was a beast in the traditional 4-3 but didn't fit in the 3-4 with KC so he could be had for a good but not too expensive deal.

Jason Ferguson is a run stuffer. Old sure off an injury yes. BUT the guy when healthy he is a very good run stuffer and if we can get 1 more year out of him it allows us to shift focus on the offense in the draft. Now I feel like an interesting option to further bolster our line is Aaron Kampman the guy is a free agent and might not be back in Green Bay due to Ryan Picket and Chad Clifton among other also being free agents (Also Kampman not being a fit for their 3-4 either)

Now Kampman is not a fit for the 3-4 (Which means almost half the league that won't be interested) and is coming off of an injury so that drives his price down further. But when in a 4-3 Kampman was a 10 sack a year guy. So if we were to haul in Kampman, Ferguson, and Derrick Johnson to help our front 7 would you be happy with that.

Each guy has flaws that makes them available to come to Buffalo at a Ralph price. Also if we cut guys like Kelsay, Spencer Johnson, and not resign Ryan Denny it could help fund these acquisitions.

Let me see Schobel on one side , Kampman on the other , Stroud, Derrick Johnson , Spencer Johnson & Kyle Williams sounds good to me . I just think Spencer had a decent season last year & Williams is all heart player too plus add another year around Bob Sanders (which should be our D C ) can only help !!

  13. In a bunch of different threads people are heatedly discussing our first round draft pick, #9 overall, and whether to draft a LT to protect a QB or to draft our "QB of the future". When the point that a QB of the future's growth and development could be ruined because we don't have an offensive line to protect him people almost unanimously say let the QB of the future sit for a year or two.

My thought is this. If we are only draft our QB of the future to sit the bench for a year or two....why draft him in the first round. IMO a #9 pick QB is a guy that is ready to and SHOULD start now. You don't draft and pay #9 money to a guy that needs to ride pine for a while do to inability to start or quite litteraly fear for his safety.

If the answer is get our QB of the future now and let him sit...we may as well get a project at QB that will be ready to start when the O-line is ready to protect him and aid his development not stunt his growth. I'm just throwing a name out there but "pre-combine" a guy that could be had out side the first 2 rounds is Jevan Snead. I'm am no college football guru but he has a few things that can't be taught like size, mobility and a cannon for an arm.

Thoughts? What other QBs might fit this mold of a later draft pick, mobile, physical, big armed QB that could be groomed in a year or 2 to start? And please, just because a QB has a big arm and is mobile DOESN'T make him JP Losman. He was a reach for a first round pick and we all know how that worked out.

I saw in two pieces of games and watched long enough to see that what i had heard seemed true . I heard he was a bit indecisive and could make some bad throws and that's what i got out of watching him although it wasn't any full games so I'm not qualified as a judge -- of coarse i'm partial to Dan Lefeavor from CMU , i just think the kid is a winner great stats but a victim of the spread offense from what i'm hereing ??

  14. Here's to Bill Polian!

Heck of a great GM, deserves another Super Bowl win!

Yah , can you just imagine what the Bills would have looked like by now if good ole Ralph would have just realized what he had in Pollian but that's our Ralph !!

  15.

Dan LeFevour...strong arm, cold weather qb, moves in the pocket well, mobile, smart and a great leader.

If we don't try and draft this guy it will be up there with some of the other great decisions the Bills have made like, firing Pollian , making Donte a first rounder & Mabin for all that's worth , but hopefully Chan will see what this guy has - he was made to be a Bill !!

  16. Lynch is not going to fetch anything significant in trade, especially not Merriman. Lynch is a backup running back/

marginal starter with off-the-field problems and one mis-step away from another suspension.

Hey here's an idea ? We need D line help and may be going to a 3 -4 & Seymore wants out of Oakland so let's send Lynch close to home in the land of misfit toys (for Uncle Al) and bring Seymore back east to good ole Buffalo & there's a start for our 3 - 4 . What about it ??

  17. I'm not saying the Bills must take a QB in the first round this year, but if they hope to get a Franchise QB, the first round one of these years is the best option. If I was running the draft and Clausen was somehow there at 9 (which he won't be) I'd grab him and take my chances. I wouldn't pick Bradford ever as he looks like the second coming of Chad Pennington with worse injury issues.

Implicit in skipping a QB in the first is the idea that Buffalo could grab one later. Specifically most people say we can grab one in the second, but history proves this false. In the past 15 years only 1 sucessful qb has been taken in the second, Drew Brees, and he was taken at the top of the round. So who was the second most sucessfull qb? Tavaris Jackson. Meanwhile in that same time span the second has produced tons of great players at every othe position including OT.

So while I don't think the Bills have to take a qb in the first, people better realize that if they don't we have as much chance of finding a good one in the second as we do of finding a Tom Brady in the 6th.

Check out Dan Lefevour out of CMU ,look at his stats for his college career the kid is great!! He would need to change to pro style offense but Chan the man has that covered and he will probably go in the late second to third round that would be a great savings money wise & we could get a LT or DT in the first . Because no matter what if you put Marino or Montanna behind a O line that won't give you some time there doomed i don't care how good they are !!

  18.

Dan LeFevour...strong arm, cold weather qb, moves in the pocket well, mobile, smart and a great leader.

Man i'm with you this guy is all that and a bag of chips !! i asked Chris Brown at BB.com about him and he don't think so because he worked mostly from the shotgun but i think that is minor , this guy is loaded with talent and is the second coming of Kelly or possibly even better .There are two other guys on the team i had this same feeling about one is Fred "action " Jackson & the other i think is Steve Johnson. Go Bills !!
