Put the negativity aside and just tell yourself that the whole season depends on this game. When they win, continue it for the next week. The Bills WILL be back in the race. Fitz has played his worst, Mario has played his worst, Anderson has played his worst. These are not bad players, they have just played badly for various reasons. The line is healthy, the defense will rise and thes rest is history. Watch for Fitz to have his best day thus far. It is coming indeed.....
One thing for sure that you can take to the bank is that unlike other games this year Mario will show up at this one . As Andre Ware said in his interview on WGR 55 that the bigger the game thats when Mario shows up ..
How much bigger a game can it be for him ? He wants to show the people in Houston what they let go , so i think this week people will be singing his praises not only in B/Lo (but in Houston too) & will give the credit to him getting his wrist looked at & that he will be back to player we thought ...
But if what Andre Ware said is true it may take 1 or 2 games but he will disappear again .
What we need is for Bruce to come back & show him how it's done . I heard stories back when Bruce was playing of how he would break stair master machines , that is work ethic & passion something that Mario apparently lacks or is at lacking consistency in !!

This would be awesome. This team needs attitude, but he would want to bring a 3-4 with him i'm sure.
My thoughts exactly , if they did hire him there would be no shortage of firey attitude thats for sure & i'll bet that Mario would get off his azz if Rob was his coach !!!

What could Russ Brandon do to sell season tickets next year should this years team turn out to be a disaster?
Do you think replacing Buddy Nix with Bill Polian would get the fan base excited for the 2013 season?
That along with Pollian drafting our QB of the future would do a lot , he would come in & probably clean house & it would also bring back some real substance to the Bills organization ..
But seeing as Ralph fired Pollian (biggest mistake Ralph has ever made) do we really think that Ralph will eat his ego & hire him back ?
The best thing that could happen is if Ralph left the team to Pollian in his will !!!! That's a dream !!
I guess you did not see his last game against Arizona.....
And should have been paying attention to Colin Kliens last game !!!

Besides Marv Levy Perry Fewell was the best head coach EVER for the Bills! That was a mistake firing the entire coaching staff, should have made Perry head coach and Bobby April assistant head coach/ special teams. Young guy, players like him, defensive minded and now has Jewelry on his hand!
Ya go figure the Giants have 2 of our old coaches Fewell , & Gilbride & they have a super bowl each although Gilbride has been there for both .
Hey heres a thought , lets hire Gilbride as a head coach ,He's never been a HC in the league to this point has he !!!

Well, If you knew a little more about Merriman, you would also have known that his natural position is LB IN A 3-4 DEFENCE, THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS LB IN A 4-3 DEFENCE
It was one of the reasons why he was cut in the first pace, he didn't fit this defence and was better off in a 3-4

So the solution on D is to put a guy who hasn't produced in years at any position in a new position and see what happens? No. We go over this with Merriman again and again.
Ah, but you want to put Merriman at LB only in blitz subpackages? Something tells me opposing coaches would pick up on that fairly quickly.
Look, there isn't any magic personnel trickery to be employed here. The players just have to perform better (at their natural positions.) There's a lot of young guys on this defense; they may improve as the season goes forward. It has happened before.
The key phrase in your post is NATURAL positions which as i stated Merrimans NATURAL position is LB , and seeing as what ever they are doing isn't working why not at least try it ??
As the old adage says "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but our D seeing as we are setting records for futility it's broke so TRY SOMETHING TO FIX IT !!
And to try a move like that with Merriman if for nothing but a spark to make these young guys realize we are willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to fix what's broken then i'm all for it !!!
No there's definitely discipline and accountability, it's just directed at the wrong players. Stevie gets benched for a Happy New Year shirt but players who show no heart get to start regularly. This staff is azz backwards.

I just felt the need to make this post. There is too much premature Mario bashing that has been going on since week 1. People literally deemed him a bad sign after the Jets game and started ragging on him. I think he is an elite talent who has good character. He will work out in the end so quit your impulsive whining. Mark my words.
When you are a DE in the NFL that works for the Buffalo Bills you live in a very large shadow & when you put the tag of elite on that player the shadow gets even more intense .
Because you always have BRUCE looking over your shoulder & when you read about elite NFL pass rushers his name is the explanation in Websters !!!

It's kind of like excuse are like A holes every one has one & they usually stink !! Which in this case Mario's excuse for his ineptness on the field is his wrist .
Heck i can remember guys that have played on the offensive & defensive line in years past that have played with BROKEN ARMS in a cast !! That played for a lot less money too !!
Unless this guy comes out in the second half f the season on fire he will be run out of town on a rail !
He may play good in this game this week because he will be motivated by the fact that he is going back to his old team & wants to show them that they made a mistake by letting him go .
IMHO the following week will be the tell all , if he plays well this week & then disappears again after then we will all be able to tell what he is made of , MONEY MONEY MONEY !!

crazy how much things can change in the NFL landscape.
I know the article is a little old but if you jump ahead a few years & change the franchise (if the new stadium project isn't looked at a bit more seriously) it could sound an awful lot like our Bills very soon !!!
And given what Brandon said about the stadium project being a non starter you can almost bet that you will be able to use that same article for our team !

The problem is that our desperate need for a QB doesn't make Matt Barkley a better QB. I don't think he's on the level of an Andrew Luck or RG III.
I agree there are others that are coming out this year that i like a lot & that deserve a long hard look those being Colin Klien - K State , Tyler Wilson - Ark. & if A.J. McCarron comes out this year we could do a lot worse even if he is just a pocket passer .
Geno Smith could be another possibility but i'm not as high on him . Barkley although mentioned in top QB conversations has struggled a bit this year but we could do a lot worse . But given our past history with California QB's not to mention the list of USC QB's that are less than elite now in the NFL (Palmer , Sanchez , Lienhart) & the one Southern californian QB that i hate more than any other Rob (I SUCK) Johnson i am way more than gun shy when it comes to a USC & california pretty boy QB's !!
If we could though i would package some kind of deal to go get Mani Teo the guy is lights out , he & Keuchly will be making plays for a lot of years in this league !!

Our year started with high expectations , especially with our defense & rightfully so . But as we all know what we thought would be is not & we find our selves coming into the second half of the year with certain things that need to be addressed , some more than others & mainly on our D .
The run game on D & the pass rush are our main deficiency on defense & our starters are not providing the play to get the job done . If for nothing else to provide a spark or a slap in the face (a wake up call if you will) why not use other players that we have to see if it would provide a spark or wake up the starters by sitting them for a game (or 2) & use the starters as back ups for a wake up call .
Make them realize that they can still lose there starting job if they don't perform ...
Our LB ing corp & our secondary to some extent are very suspect & we have a few players that could add that needed spark , two that have been mostly inactive this year one on injured reserve , one inactive for most of the year & the other just came back to the team after being cut at the start of the season .
I am asking this to see what if any sense this could make especially from our veteran guys on this sight that have been posting for a long period of time (such as PTR & BB & others) that seem to know a bit more than just our casual posters or rookies which i consider my self to be although i like to think i know a little bit about football as most of us do ..
If we were relegate 2 starters to back ups those being Sheppard & A Williams & replace them with K . Morrison & R . Brooks would that provide a spark to our D or the motivation for the other guys to play better ? That's question #1 ...
My other question is seeing as our LB corp is a weakness on defense what would it hurt to try Merriman at his old position on certain blitz packages ? Use him not only as a DE but in certain situations him in at OLB not only to confuse opponents defenses & keep them guessing but to utallize a guy that has some pretty deep experience at a position that at one time he was 1 of the best at that position & now we don't use his experience at that position at all .
I know he was mainly a 3/4 LB but what is the main difference between how he would perform as a 4/3 SLB or OLB or a 3/4 SLB ? (is he to slow for 4/3 OLB , is there too much to learn ?) He is a football player . Is it really so much different that we couldn't use his experience & athleticism in that position in a sub package for blitzes ?
I don't really totally understand the thinking behind moving him to a different position , i know they want him to be a pass rusher which he was & is but IF we have weaknesses that we are trying to address why not at least try it ?? If for nothing else to throw a curve give other teams something else to have to game plan against or am i missing something ??
Well there are a couple of questions for you all to answer , call me stupid if you would like (i've been called it before) but you don't know unless you ask !!

As I understand it, every team in the NFL has to have at least one player on the Pro Bowl team. With Moorman gone, I cannot think of one player who would make it. Any suggestions?
Spiller or Jackson or both Levetrie or Byrd possibly & maybe K WIlliams but beyond that you got nothin !!!!

Here is what I think would be a great idea. Trade for Vick, have him start next year while you let Fitz finish out this year. If Barkely and Geno Smith are gone before Buffalo picks, evaluate and see if the 3rd best guy is worth taking at the 10ish spot. If that guy is not going to be worth it, look for one in the 2nd and draft Teo. You then have Vick as a starter with the rookie learning the system for a year (or possibly 2).
I am guessing Vick could be had because he will want to go somewhere with a chance to start. KC and Buffalo (possibly Jax, Jets and AZ) are the only teams who will be looking to upgrade the position. I think 2013 will be a good time to need a QB due to the least amount of teams needing a QB in a while.
In summary, let Fitz finish the season, Trade for Vick (he has tons of time to learn the system), draft a QB and then that QB starts in 1-2 years. I believe by taking Vick, you don't have to have that down year when drafting a rookie. Is there one hole you can punch in this line of thought because there is no way you are going backwards with Vick over Fitz.
OK OK sounds like we are all starting to lose it . Have you noticed that Vick is no better than what we have & we have a QB sitting every week that we don't use .
So what you are saying is waste another pick on a trade to get Vick along with the 7th round pick that we wasted on bringing T Jack here ??
That just don't make no sense man !! At least get Jackson some reps , enough to replace Thiggy pudding let Thigpen go with B Smith as the #3 QB that opens up a roster spot , then go look for another good player i'm thinking more along the lines of a good LB to beef up our D which definitely needs the help .
That way if the D does better we are in more games , if Fitz gets hurt we have a viable back up at QB that we are not afraid to put in a game & if we abandon this specialty kick off kicker idea we could add another player that could be in a position of need instead of having this guy sit like us on sundays watching the game from his living room or where ever the inactives watch from .
But to trade for a QB that has the drop sees and is doing no better than what we put on the field now makes no sense what so ever !!!!!

They just need to shake things up & make some changes with the personnel we already have , such as sit Sheppard & put in the veteran LB Morrison then take A Williams out let him sit a while & put in Brooks in his place . Biggest of all if Super Mario continues his low out put sit his ass on the bench in Houston & let Merriman , Moore & Kelsay play more to show him (with a little bit of humiliation mixed in) that if your not willing to play at the level your expected or paid to you will sit the bench (just like any other player not play up to your ability) in spite of your contract & how good or how much better you think you are !!!
Mr. refrigerator in your locker , no pass rushing , can't walk across the locker room like every body else to get a gatorade high price primadonna team mate !! Sorry got carried away ...

It seems as if the Bills are going to have 2 options: trade up to draft a Geno Smith or a Matt Barkley or draft a 2nd tier type of QB (see: Locker, Ponder, Dalton, Losman, et al), which is more of a 50/50 proposition. I guess I'm calling on the draft experts here, but I guess there are two ways of thinking: 1) you need to get a surefire prospect like an Andrew Luck or an RGIII at any cost or 2) you draft a hulking LB in the first round and then trade up to get a Tyler Bray at the end of the 1st/early 2nd.
I've always been a type 1, but I could be persuaded. I think I'd be happy with a hulking LB from the SEC with a fraternity symbol branded on his arm and Tyler Bray.
Couple notes here: I realize Luck is a once-a-generation prospect and neither Geno Smith or Barkley fit that bill. You don't have to tell me.
And also, the Bills are going to end up winning 6 games, and drafting around 10 as per usual, so let's base it off of that assumption.
Geno Smith would be a good one but the #1 Qb in the H race is Colin Klien &then there are others like Tyler Wilson that we may be able to get at our pick so we have options besides trading up , but if a good one is there go get him !!!

Jason La Canfora on the NFL today stating "Sweeping changes coming across the league".
Its already started in Carolina as they fired their GM and hired a consulting firm to find a new GM. Their first choice as HC might be Denver OC Mike McCoy who did wonders with Tim Tebow, and now Peyton Manning
The coach and GM in trouble on many teams, Carolina, Cleveland, Buffalo, San Diego, Jacksonville, Kansas City.
Long time executive Bill Polian is looking to get back into the league in 2013 as is ex GM Michael Lombardi, and so is ex Bears GM Jerry Angelo.
Wel there's our answer bring back the guy that did it here in the first place & give him the reigns !!!

When Williams had arthroscopic surgery on his wrist Tuesday, it was much to the surprise of the Bills.
Team sources say Williams was a no-show Monday before he texted a trainer and his defensive line coach to say he was getting a second opinion on his wrist and, subsequently, that he was undergoing arthroscopic surgery.
Then he said he would be back for practice Monday and expects to play next Sunday against his former team, the Houston Texans. -espn
This guy is turning out to be the farthest thing from a Bills type player since they tried to draft T . Cousinoe
I thought he would be the one thing we needed to get some pass rush but i went to the NE game at the Ralph & he has made me feel bad for Ralph ! It's almost like buying a Yugo & thinking your getting a BMW !!
It's no wonder Houston let him walk . The best thing in this guys arsenal is his whine list !!

He's never played 43 olb, so I'm not sure how it became his natural position.
Ya but he is a football player & at one time a very good one so what do we have to lose by trying it a couple of 3rd downs ?? a big run for say 13 yards or so , hell were doing that now .
Let the guy see what he can give , what is the big difference between a 4/3 OLB & a 3/4 OLB i know there are different assignments but is it that different if the guy is a football player ???

Guys go from Formula one cars to Nascar & Dirt track to Nascar & Bush & Trucks to Nascar so why not 3/4 OLB to 4/3 OLB ??

He will need a new number, but other than that we get out franchise qb next year.
Mario has the off season to heal his wrist and we add more linebackers and depth on defense and we will be hosting the afc title game in orchar park January 2014!!!
I'm not real sure about Jones i have recently seen other QB's that may be coming out that i think are better not just in performance but in ranking & stats too . Which i know stats don't mean anything but hey it all counts in the end .
One that i see is K States QB Colin Klein 6' 5" 226 lbs he looked pretty good today & what impressed me was he started out slow but was able to get it together in the second half & bring his team back & win that shows a little bit of leadership to me ..
Another thing is he not only has a good arm but he can run for a big guy he holds a record for the most rushing TD's at K state for a QB ...

I agree the D has been the part of te team that has lost the games for us , we should be able to win games that we have 24 to 28 points in as long as the D is living up to it's part of the deal .
I will say though i think that the lack of seriously looking at a QB of the future has been a great error on the Bills part !
Last year we passed on Dalton , this year we not only let R .Wilson go but others of which we could have had in later rounds & not had to pay out as much so we wouldn't have lost as much as we would if we would have invested in a first round pick .
It was a knee jerk reaction to pay Fitz the kind of cash they did & this year they should definitely think real hard on a QB and do there home work !!! Last year there was a lot of talent & we just let it go by not to mention the other picks that we have just wasted on the likes of Carder , T Jack (if we weren't going to get him the reps he needs to compete for a job this year) & the O lineman kid from Oregon that we just let go ..
Thats not how you build a team by letting 2 + draft picks just walk away each year !!!
So let's draft a QB & prepare him for the future !! GO BILLS !!!!

There has been a lot of talk this year about up grades to the Ralph & how to keep the Bills in Buffalo for the future , & now there is the talk of a new stadium being built on the outer banks of the harbor in B/lo . Which will keep the NFL happy as far as making the Bills a more sellable product like the Lions & others around the league .
If you read the article it states that investors are prepared to put up to 70% of the funding to build the new Stadium/museum/convention center , how much more could the county or state want ? Talk about a gift !
Plus how long has that land been sitting desolate with absolutely nothing happening on it for goodness sake give the land to them if they are willing to pay 70% of the cost . For the amount of tax influx that it will create !!!
The project is going to include 10000 construction jobs for 6 years + the amount of permanent jobs once the project is done + the amount of jobs that it will produce in changing the infrastructure as far as traffic & all other considerations will be a added incentive . Not to mention that the Bills will be staying put so those jobs will stay here along with all the other possibilities like super bowls , Basketball tournaments & other sporting events , not to mention the influx of Canadian business & just their presence to the other events to spend money ...
To me it's a no brainer , as they say a win win all the way around , for the state , the county & especially the city of Buffalo , but if this is looked at in the same vein as the Keystone pipeline from the democratic viewpoint they will just want to keep things the way they are so people can be more dependent on the gov't --- but that for a different blog & another discussion .
How can this not be put through ? If the county can do a lease for the next 6 years it will work out perfectly as far as timing & all . I know it is a large undertaking but it will bring so much to the downtown Buffalo area & revitalize so much more in the area !
I for one hope that more common sense is injected into this decision than most governmental decisions especially for our beloved Bills future !!
Along with that after our beloved patriarch RW passes on it will make the team look much more worthy to purchase & viable to the new owners . What you all think Bills fans ???
Migrane's - Players Fixed & Players Lost ?

With 2 players in the last few years in the NFL having big issues with migrane head aches those 2 being our own Shawn Nelson & Percy Harvin, i was wondering if any one had any info on Nelson ?
He was highly touted prospect coming out of college & then the Migrane thing put him down . Which eventually lead to his termination as a Bill .
But as i remember Percy Harvin of the Vikings had the same thing & this year & last he has come back from it better than ever which made me wonder about Nelson .
He showed some flashes that he could have been another welcome receiver to add to Gailey's offense but b/c of the head aches & missing time he was let go .
I know this has no bearing on anything that has happened this year other than another high draft pick in the Bills organization gone but do to circumstances beyond any ones control .
But have any of you kept up on what might have happened to this guy ? I would have thought that seeing as Harvin & Nelson both had the same ailment that they would have gotten in touch with each other to compare notes so Nelson could quite possibly continue his NFL career with the Bils or with some other team ...
