  1. ......3. TJ Graham - Whereas the Glenn pick was influenced by TBD; I think the Graham pick was 100% driven by TBD. I love that Buddy Nix has a sense of humor. I really do. I got a huge kick out of this pick but to take a guy that nobody has ever heard of just so he can watch Bill in NYC write hundreds of posts using the words "smurf"; "Roscoe"; "Spiller" and the like I think was taking it too far for a 3rd round pick. Doing this with one of the 4ths would have sufficed although I have to admit the throw in of the meaningless 7th to move up two spots and set off a proverbial mushroom cloud over Manhattan was hilarious. Bravo Buddy. I especially liked Chan's presser using all sorts of Bill in NYC trigger words. Awesome. Does Tgreg write this stuff?

......5B. Tank Carder. This pick killed about 93 birds with one stone. Pick a cool nickname.....check. Pick someone that EVERYBODY on TBD had on their mock drafts after we famously whiffed on Casey Matthews in the 4th last year and couldn't swing the trade for the Bradham pick.........check. Pick someone seen as a fourth or fifth rounder primarily because he has a cool name and was on TV a lot even though he has no shot at the next level.......check. Pick somebody that will take the heat off the stars at autograph time for the first 9 days of training camp before we cut him......check. Make sure he is at a "position of need"......check. Make sure he has some cool eclectic hobby like jumping out of pools or being humongously fat like Jasper or standing still and jumping really high like Wendling but make it something totally new; wait he plays cello or whatever that thing is.....perfect get him........check. This may have been the single best public relations draft pick in the history of sports. If he had self promotional hair like Polomalu he would have been our pick in the 2nd over Glenn.

    Great stuff!! :D

  2. I actually liked Evans a lot, but I never equated him with 'supreme hands'. I felt very badly for him after the drop, but he has not been on the team in over a year and is old news. I prefer to give the current roster the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Easley has shown flashes and hopefully he works out this year, if not, Evans is still not the answer...

  3. Don't give up hope. We live 5 miles from Gillette, and my son is 15 so the Pats* have been a top for most of his life. With all their success he started out Patriots fan, but about 5 years ago he completely switched to the Bills (and the Sabres) and has remained loyal despite the crap he gets from his buddies at school.

Of course, I feel guilty when those gut wrenching losses occur, but I tell them it builds character.

  4. I like Bowe more than Jackson because he fits the system better; runs underneath routes and is an overall better WR. VJax is an athletic monster and deep threat and would be easier to reel in I guess, with Nix's ties to SD. Honestly, I would be content with either (who wouldn't). But seriously. They have to resign Stevie. No questions asked.

Gailey did work with Bowe in KC.

  5. Patriot Place really is an awesome addition to the area surrounding Gillette Stadium, any of you that have not yet seen it will surely be impressed. I recommend checking out the CBS Scene as well as Bar Louie if you have some extra time after the game (you will because not 1 stadium in the NFL has a worse road system)!

If you do go to either one of those places, stick to the drinks and enjoy the atmosphere...in my experience the food has been substandard.

  6. I will be making my first visit to Gillette since the "just give it to them"/PI in the endzone game. :censored:

A friend has season tickets, and he asked me to go earlier in the year, when it looked like it may mean something. I am a little concerned about the potential for a blow-out, but just about anything will be better than my previous experience.

As far as Patriot Place, it is really just an open air mall, although the Bass Pro Shops, which is away from the "mall" section is pretty nice.

  7. So tired of people hung up on when a player was drafted and what we could have had instead. Only fans care about that...once you are on the team then you are on the team and its about how the coaching staff can use the player to get value...our staff had another epic fail on getting him on the field in situations for him to succeed.

I don't believe that to be the case with Maybin. We all heard the reports that Wood made to him during training camp. I think there may have been resentment on the team about the money he was making, and lack of productivity, even in practice agains offensive lineman that could not make the team.

Granted, you would think the coaching staff would be able to get some value out of him, but there are too many holes on this team to tie that much money up on a guy that is only suited for 5-10 snaps a game.

  8. Bill, even though I disagree with you on some issues, I do enjoy your posts after the game. My only major issue is that guys you continually bash on. Spiller didn't have a great game, but he played hard IMO. It's funny you left out the part where he went after Maybin after AM hit Fitz late. Selective viewing I guess. IMO, that showed me a lot.

Also another favorite target of yours, McKelvin, showed a lot of character as well. He very easily could have pouted over being benched but he played his @ss off on STs and showed great energy. He was electric as a gunner.

I have to 2nd C.Biscuit on Spiller. I think he definitely got better as the game went on. It looked as if he was concentrating on going to where the hole was supposed to be in the first part of the game, but it was bottled up. In the 2nd half he kept getting closer to hitting one. The greatest area of improvement will come when he strengthens his legs this off-season so that he is able to break that initial tackle. I am not close to writing him off yet.

Also McKelvin did show character and played great on STs. Nobody has ever questioned his athletic ability, and that is what allowed him to excel on his punt coverage. That, and his only job was to tackle the guy, not also have to defend a pass.

No news yet on which game will be flexed in to that spot, but it would be sweet if it was our game as I have tix! :)

I think the more likely candidate is Detroit @ New Orleans or Atlanta @ Houston (both 1pm Fox)

However, if they are looking to move a CBS game to replace it, then the Bengals @ Pitt or Titans v. Bills would seem to be the best options, so maybe.

Do they have the ability to pick any game? Cause Bengals/Steelers, GB/NYG and Lions/Saints are all that week as well.

I don't think they can take the GB/NYG game because that is the marque late game of the Fox double header.

  10. Do you really think Maybin leaving has anything to do with the Bills record improving? He was on the field before he left and he isn't now (for the Bills) so what affect did he have?

Maybe not directly, but he is no longer taking up a roster spot; and, it demonstrated to the rest of the team that no matter where you are drafted, you better buy into the system and perform, or you will be sent packing.

  11. By the way, one of the things that impressed me the most about that game was the sequence at the end of the first half. I was pissed when Fitz threw that pick in the end zone, but I actually had confidence that we would stop the Skins, force a punt, and still have enough time to get down the field for a FG try. And we did. To me, that was huge.

Gailey's time management is one of the things I really like. He called the timeouts when they should be called, and gave his team a chance to score. I think what we are seeing is the difference a highly skilled offensive Head Coach can be for a team.

  12. I think a special mention is warranted for Cory McIntyre on KO coverage yesterday, especially since the Fox did not other than his mouthguard.

On two consecutive kick-offs in the first half he made the tackle with a nice stick at the 15 yard line. On the first one, I think he may have also seperated the shoulder of the blocker (#84) first. On the second one, the another guy gave a half-hearted block that Corey tossed aside. Stuff like that just sets a great tone for the team!!

  13. When discussing risk, even in hindsight, the downside should always be considered. Other than the loss of money, which per the Bills Cap situation has had little or not impact, why exactly has it been a bad risk.

I was hopeful, but I am not suprised by the result. At the same time, I do not see what the big deal is since he has had little or no impact on the operation of the team. In fact, it could be argued that his off the field efforts have actually helped the team. Probably not to the level of the money he has been paid, but it should still be figured as a mitigating factor.

  14. You and a lot of people keep saying this. Where has he been valuable? Has he made ONE significant play in three games? Sacks are overrated but I'm still amazed at how many people defend Merriman. Maybe I'm missing something. All I see is a big name and a non-factor in regular season games.

I've been posting all year that Moats will be the best pass rusher we have on this team if they let him play the game. He can be a 10 sack guy and set the edge better than Merriman.

It reminds of when we first got Freddy Jackson and he was a practice squad guy but everytime he hit the field he did something. It was like "what are the coaches NOT seeing from this guy that they're keeping him benched"

Not saying Moats is there yet, but we need to give him a chance. I think Wanny wanted him inside but the film on Merriman is showing that he's a full step slower than he used to be and Moats is our best option as his backup.

Have you seen the highlights of the Raiders V. Jets? If so, you saw McFadden being able to bust big runs because the Raiders were able to clean out the OLB. That did not happen against the Bills, precisely because Merriman was able to hold the edge. I believe that is what the design of the defense required, and he performed it perfectly.

The edge rush is lacking, but he has not played in two years, and is probably still working himself back into full-speed game shape. The were some brief glimpses in the Pats* game and I expect to see more as the season goes on.

  15. This.

Ir's the emotional connection Bills fans have with their team that separates us from the casual fans of other franchises. I'm sure there are fans like this in every city, but without a doubt Buffalo has the highest proportion of fans emotionally connected to their team. I have lived in NYC and now NE and it seems there are bandwagoners galore. It's because they pick and chose whichever one of their teams is doing well this season. Pathetic.

Especially here in NE. When the Pats* sucked, they were a week away from becoming the Hartford Patriots because fan support was so low. Now everyone has been a fan of the Pats* forever. When they start to slide, and it's happening, Foxboro won't sell out. Bandwagoners. No emotional connection. I still get pissed about bad calls and stuff made 15 years ago (like that Hail Mary pass interference). Fans of other teams just don't understand and can't.

    RTB

Agreed. I have been fortunate enough to instill the love for the Bills to my son, despite the fact we live 5 miles from Gillette. He and I were definitely disturbing the neighborhood last Sunday, and he could not wait to get to school on Monday.

I instantly thought of the Hail Mary PI when the call was made on Nelson in the endzone. Nice to see the calls going the Bills way.

  16. While he is definitely better in the DE role, we can still count on him to be caught overpursuing a cut-back, reverse, or counter at points during the game. I think it is a position in need of an upgrade next year, unless Carrington continues to improve.
