  1. There are many coincidences in life. It seems that many are willing to accept the correlation of Brady petitioning for the rule change regarding game balls....Brady being caught orchestrating systematic deflation of game balls.....and the anomolously low fumble rate statistics for the Pats since the rule change as being coincidence. I for one don't see it as coincidental.

Add to that a guy who calls himself "the deflator" and mentions Brady (among other things), takes the footballs into a bathroom to use a non existent urinal before the game, and those balls are found over 1.5 psi below allowable limit. Just another coincidence.

  2. The NFL incompetence was really an opening that Brady and the Pats could have taken advantage of. If in that first press conference Brady, instead of saying he doesn't worry about the balls, said that he asks his equipment guys to get the balls at as low a psi as possible, then it is on the officials to catch it. Then, while a violation, that would have been seen by most as just gamesmanship.

His straight denial, accompanied by McNally bringing the balls into the bathroom, exposes the truth to what happened, especially when accompanied by the texts.

  3. The best part about this is that the Patriots are under siege and their legacy is tarnished (even if it is just a little). They are totally on the defensive and I am really enjoying watching them squirm.

I think that Brady gets 2-8 games. If I had to guess I would say 4 games (and it may be cut in half at appeal). Gostkowski probably gets no punishment. A 2nd round pick is forfeited. Belicheck gets something as well. It may just be a fine but he has to fall on the sword for "lack of institutional control." He is actually the person that I feel a little sorry for here. I don't think that Belicheck had anything to do with this.

I don't agree. Belicheck created the win at all costs environment with SpyGate, and all the other little rule bending he does. Also, he may not have had a direct hand in the deflating, but I'm sure he did not mind the results when it came to the reduction in fumbles.

  4. @ProFootballTalk: Stephen Gostkowski refused to fully cooperate with the investigation, too http://t.co/ASoHa7xh1Y

I ultimately think them not cooperating with the investigation is what the NFL will focus on when handing out the punishment, and it will be severe. The must know, as we all do, that Brady directed those guys to do this, and that they have likely been doing it for quite a while. Unfortunately, they cannot 'prove' that, and even with all the circumstantial evidence, the apologists will have an out.

The fact that they were uncooperative is clear cut, and as the article indicates, is unprecedented when compared to recent investigations. This violation is clear cut, and if they do not come down hard on it, it sets a very bad precedent going forward.

  5. In general I agree with the tone of your responses. It has been fair, reasonable and proportional. You and I have placed this situation in the same context. Very many responders are very rabid over this matter. I'm much more subdued about it.

I see Brady getting suspended for one to two games. That would be a resonable league response. I then see Brady incensed and insanely motivated over the way he is portrayed. The driven qb will then end up with him holding up the SB trophy and symbolicly giving the finger to those he believed unfairly besmirched his reputation.

I think it may be more like 4-8 games, due to his being uncoopertative during the investigation. The NFL needs to rely on teams and players to cooperate as they do not have subpeona power, therefore, in order to show that nobody is above the league, they will need to set a precedent.

  6. Just perusing the arcticles on TBD and it is really striking how easy it is to pick out articles written by Sullivan or Gleason. I am sure this one is written by Jerry, but I refuse to click on it, just to read another in the long line of articles with a negative spin.

I am all in favor of writing critical objective articles, but an article before even the draft takes place with that angle adds no value, and unfortunately is indicative of the drivel continuosuly provide.

I really think Sullivan may just be shooting for Rodak's job at ESPN.

  7. If the Bills were to move, (I would be crushed if they did) would you still be a fan even though they wouldnt be the Bills anymore?

    CBF

No, unless it is just to Niagara Falls. Anywhere else, then my interest in football would be limited to fantasy and I would focus my attention on Tottenham Hotspur in the EPL.

  8. I noticed that too. My only thought was that it was applied to the result of the run on that play, but that should have put the ball closer to the 18 yard line.

I am still waiting to see the ilegal use of hands penalty they called on Williams. The replay showed that he never touched him, so I would suspect they had the wrong number, but who knows with this crew.

Yes...they still should have won the game regardless......

  9. I also think it's worth pointing out that this coverage concept has worked well for Buffalo at times this season...if you can find a clip of Jimmy Leonhard's INT versus Cinci, Manny Lawson ran it to perfection, drilling the TE at the line. Dalton saw what he thought was edge pressure and threw to where the TE was supposed to be--Leonhard was in position and made the play.

This time, it was against a better QB with a lesser coverage LB in Hughes--and they got burned.

It also did not help that the Saints had an extra week to prepare and watch film, which I am sure helped them to spot the defensive set-up and take advantage.

  10. This "I'll wait before getting excited" stuff is boring and the easy way out. I'm happy to be excited any chance I get. Life's too short to feel differently, at least to me.

    Go Bills!

Exactly. I would rather go into the season with some optimism. The worst that can happen is that we will be disappointed...again...and then do it all over again next season...
  11. The only thing that should change is that instead of Choice coming it will be Freddy, which is a significant improvement, especially the way Choice ran during the Miami game.

Freddy is a smart man, and I don't think he will begrudge the rotation. In the past, I think part of his concerned stem from not having a contract extension. Now that he is set financially, I think he will settle into whatever is best for the team.

  12. After the draft I started to think about the prospective roster and the potential cuts. Now with the cutting of Florence, it got me thinking about what an upgrade this roster is over the past decade. When is the last time the Bills had cut multiple players (not FA, or trade), that were deemed valuable by other teams?

And I am not talking about 'playbook' pick-ups...
