  1. I think what happened was all those sheep wearing rose colored glasses FINALLY took their glasses off. It was amazing to me how when Gailey and Nix was hired there was utter and complete disappointment. Then because they are all no nonsense everybody got on board.

Then when Spiller was drafted - again disappointment. Not because of him but the ignoring of need. Then the reports of training camp (which are appreciated but everybody's camp reports are always positive) got people hopeful again.

It would be great if this wasn't the case but this team is going nowhere this year except on the clock.

  2. too new everywhere; too many new positions; too few qb skillz

    four wins

Exactly what he said without spelling it skillz. I would LOVE to see the 11-5 that someone put out there but I just don't see it happening this year. I think they have somewhat of a plan but it is not a one year plan. It is more realistically a 3 year plan and I hate to say it but you normally need to bottom out to come back on top. And in related news I got Sunday Ticket for $179 when I said "this is the year I'm not going to get it!!"

Mike Giardi of CSNNE reports that a source tells him the Patriots have a "strong interest" in free agent Aaron Schobel.

Giardi adds that unlike Junior Seau, Schobel is looking for big money. Long a Patriot killer, Schobel would join Tully Banta-Cain as a starting outside linebacker, relegating Rob Ninkovich and rookie Jermaine Cunningham to backup duty. The Patriots' ability to bring Schobel on board hinges on whether he's willing to play in New England. Schobel's indicated all along that playing for his hometown Houston Texans is his priority. Everyone still on board with this decision? I hate this decision. He has been our ONLY pass rush threat.

  4. I like Rex Ryan. I like his persona as a coach. I liked his dad too. I think he has made the expectations of the franchise clear. I suspect he is statements are a little more calculated than we think. He speaks the players language, and is a very good coach as well.

I have to agree. We would LOVE him if he were the Bills coach. Players want to play hard for him and he sticks up for them. Frankly he may have indirectly caused the Revis problem for heaping so much praise on him at the end of the year last year. If Sanchez improves they are a legit SB contender with that defense and running game.

  5. I never resort to name calling on a message board but will make this one exception. You're an ass!

Sorry Mrs. Nix. I'm sure he is a good husband. But tell what statement was not completely accurate. This organization just makes it so hard to keep putting your heart in it when you realize it is so poorly run with such poor talent from the top down. Now - go take your nap with your husband so you can be ready for the early bird.

  6. Dad gum it Buddy... huh huh. Old man looks like a total buffoon AGAIN. How can this organization be trusted to this red neck geezer. 48 Hours Ago - "read my lips - Aaron Schoebel will never be released." 48 hours later while taking his normal 4 hour afternoon nap - he gets released. Embarrassing truly embarrassing. But...but....."he's a football guy." He's just asleep at the switch and full of lies like every other "GM" this organization has ever had. And frankly his country bumpkin act is looking less like an act with every decision.

At least stop screwing around with Spiller now. Let Ralph sleep in bed with his 8 million in twenties then turn it over to CJ.

Brian Hartline pays fine for failing to report accident

Posted by Mike Florio on July 30, 2010 3:00 PM ET

Once upon a time, Steve Martin suggested the following strategy for dealing with criminal charges of tax evasion.

    "I forgot."

Dolphins receiver Brian Hartline had avoided scrutiny for leaving the scene of an accident with similar logic, but using an approach that bears more similarities to one of Cheech and Chong's catch phrases.

    "Dave's not here, man."

But Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Hartline finally has owned up to the situation, paying a $115 fine for failure to report a crash.

Coach Tony Sparano acknowledged that Hartline should have handled the situation differently, instead of dragging his feet for days.

"It's disappointing only in the sense that, from a communication standpoint, I wish we would have done a little bit better job that way," Sparano said, per Berardino. "But other than that, that thing really is [put] to bed. He's been issued a traffic citation, paid a fine and the case is closed."

It's unknown whether the incident exposes Hartline to potential scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy. Given that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was suspended six games yet never paid a fine, Steelers fans will be crying out for a suspension in three . . . two . . . .

Teammate tells Aaron Maybin to earn his money

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 30, 2010 2:53 PM ET

Bills 2009 first-round pick Aaron Maybin held out of training camp last year and never made much of an impact as a rookie. Now playing outside linebacker in Buffalo's new 3-4 scheme, Maybin opened camp as a backup behind journeyman Reggie Torbor.

His first noteworthy moment in camp, according to ESPN's Tim Graham, came when he shoved running back Fred Jackson to the ground from behind at the end of a play, with Jackson yelling, "Come on man" as he fell.

Maybin and an offensive lineman did the usual camp grappling, and got back to work. But Bills guard Eric Wood, a fellow 2009 first-rounder, remained unhappy a few snaps later.

"Give back some of that money you ain't [expletive] earned!" Wood screamed at Maybin.

It's not a huge story, and Wood's defense of his running back is to be expected. But Wood's words serve as a good reminder.

Maybin really does need to start earning his money soon.

  9. Jauron was doctrinal with the tampa2. However, I will give him credit because we really played it well. Our defenseive backs were very disciplined and had very good footwork. Our games were a study in the properties of the zone defense. The way to beat a zone is to use seams and crossing patterns, especially with big receivers, and that is what we saw all year long.

If we ran man coverage, we would have seen timing patterns and a lot of vertical routes with fast guys.

Fans have been down on whitner because he looks bad tackling a running back with a full head of steam. That shouldnt be his job. Donte doesnt get a lot of interceptions, but he is an excellent cover safety. He doesnt blow assignments and give up long passes. Whitner in a nickel safety role is good enough for an all star team. You dont fine many strong safeties that can cover one on one and play centerfield. He is a good tackler and a thoroughbred football player.

Thank you Ms. Whitner. I'm sure your son is a very nice young man when he isn't getting tasered. I would agree with you on the cover 2 argument though. We had small fast guys that swarmed when a pass was caught. If they could have had any degree of success stopping the run they would have had a much better 3rd down conversion number. However when you are 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 2 every time it's tough for the D to stop.

  10. Pats 11-5

    Jets 11-5 (wild card)

    Dolphins 7-9

    Bills 5-11

We have some good young talent but it is going to take time for it to show in the results playing in the NFL's toughest division.

I gotta go with the Freak here except maybe 4-12 for the Bills and I see the Jets winning and Pats with the Wild Card. Positives for the year include:

    1. Rush offense. Even with the box stacked CONSTANTLY I think Spiller, Jackson and possibly Marshawn will generate a lot of yards.

    2. Rush defense. Still won't be great but has to be improved over last year.

    3. Less injuries

    4. Shawn Nelson breaks out

    5. High Draft pick in 2011!

    Negatives:

    1. Jarius Byrd's rush defense exposed and QB's stop throwing directly at him like Neil O'Donnell in the Cowboys SB to Larry Allen.

    2. Lee Evans will struggle unless Steve Johnson or Hardy impress early to take away coverage.

    3. QB play will cause headaches across WNY

  11. I've lived around Tampa, Florida for 13 years now and as much as this time period has made me "want" to move on from the Bills I don't think I ever can. Once you have grown up in Buffalo it is somehow ingrained in you. They went to the Super Bowl all 4 years of my undergrad at UB. I'm still absolutely blown away when I meet someone transplanted from Buffalo and they say they aren't huge Bills fans. I met one today and he felt almost embarrassed and quickly said - the rest of my family are big fans!
