that's based on his scouting report now 3 yrs ago, we have no idea if he's improved on that or not.

you're not gonna get much statistically from a NT anyway, he's a space eater not a sackmaster. ah yes, the old small school argument, tell me, how did that work out for andre reed, jerry rice, strahan, osi umeniyora, kurt warner, brandon marshall, and countless other small school guys. News flash; Schools only have X amount of scholarships to give out so if the guys in the top 20 dont want to sit the bench behind top 5 guys, guess where they go....they are still very talented, and the competition is far from weak. Thats one of the worst arguments to make against any college player. BTW, how many penn st players have BUSTED in the last 10 yrs, or any big name programs for that matter. Troup was a 3 yr player that got better every yr, thats what matters, he has the size, and strength to play the position .

Brian Brohm Wll Never Have a Better Chance To Start
CarolinaBill replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with both you and alphadawg, I think the main thing to keep in mind is that we got a top end guy for nothing so far, so anything positive he does is strictly a bonus. As I said in a previous post, IMO, Brohm going to GB was probably one of the worst things that couldve happened to him, and not surprisingly, he didnt handle it well. However, I trust that Nix was right to bring him in last yr, and now BB will show his true potential. Its Brohm or Bust in 2010 folks, Get used to it!!!!! -
Spiller planning on holding out?

Not you specifically, but in general, this isnt anything to freak out over, speaking of which, someone tell jaohl, to dial it back a few notches. -
Brian Brohm Wll Never Have a Better Chance To Start

You mean brohm's 1 reg season game where he didnt even have a QB coach helping him with the gameplan? Compare that to trents 3 yrs of subpar play. -
Spiller planning on holding out?
CarolinaBill replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he does hold out, which I doubt he will, it wont be for long. He made plenty of money at clemson. I think he's just posturing like someone else said, this isnt anything to get all worked up about. -
Jim Kelly hopes Trent Edwards is the starter
CarolinaBill replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
or maybe the FO and HC just dont listen to ole Jimbo, they clearly ignored his quest for Tebow, and I doubt he has any influence on the personnel decisions at all. So let Jim crow about trent all he wants, it wont help when Brohm wins the job anyway. -

You are correct, we dont know how he will play in a real game yet. I'm more so speaking about what he physically brings to the table, which is a better arm, definitely and the ability to stretch the field (if you saw any UL games you see the evidence). Thus far as a professional, he has done zilch, which is entirely on him, no doubts about that, however, if indeed the new system is like what he ran at UL, we will see his ability very soon. this guy was a top recruit coming out of HS, a top College player, and a highly touted draft prospect for a reason, he's got the goods. Only a few more weeks till we get to find out if all this chatter means anything.

i'll handle these in order: 1) As far as sticking my neck out, and the like, I could care less, first off, if im wrong im wrong, ive been wrong before and i'll be wrong again, however, I don't think I am on this one. I've been virtually spot on in terms of spotting good Qbs either thru the draft or FA for the last 6-8 yrs, and when I heard we got brohm last yr i was very excited, with his skill set and ceiling we got a steal if he works out. 2) A: yes, we have struggled offensively for years, however, its a new day, new coach, new system. In fact that coach has done nothing but improve the offense of every single team he has ever coached, so things are looking up, right? B: the o-line and protection issues, well there is no 2 ways around it, our oline has struggled, however, with a year under their belts wood, levitre, and bell should all be improved, also, meredith, who is a very impressive physical player is right there in the mix, we have good developmental players like wang and calloway also, so while the oline is still a work in progress, I think as a group they will be better than last yr. Also keep in mind that we have new S&C coaches that will hopefully help keep the injuries to a minimum. C: the reciever corps, again, is this a green unproven group, absolutely, except for Lee, but is this a talented group, Yes, johnson hardy and easley are 3 guys with a lot of talent, size, and speed, dont forget they all run 4.45 or lower. specifically johnson and hardy, who have benefitted greatly from the addition of TO last year, should be ready to hold their own this year and make an impact. Also, keep the system in mind here, if we run a spread type, which reportedly we are, then these guys should be running in space and be able to use their size to their advantage. Easley has already displayed a knack for getting behind the defense, thats always a plus. Are they young? yes, unproven? absolutely, does that mean they cant play? Hell NO, THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE ANY GOOD IS TO LET THEM PLAY AND THAT WASNT GONNA HAPPEN WITH TO ON THE ROSTER. I have no doubts this will be an interesting year, as you've probably figured out, i'm looking at the positive potential of this team. will it be an uphill climb? probably so, but who's to say we can't climb that hill and be at the top of the mountain by years end? Anything is possible if you BILLIEVE!!!

i'm lost what was your point? I never said he was the next best thing since manning, dont put words in my mouth, keep it civil. What i said is that IMO, Brohm has the ability to be a very good QB, he has the physical tools and now, with renewed confidence and being comfortable with the system, he is the odds on favorite to win the starting job. Do i think we have a better chance to win with Brohm over trent, ABSOLUTELY do i think brohm will make the pro bowl? No, but he has the ability to what does brohm bring to the table that trent doesnt? a better arm and the willingness to stretch the field, thats for sure. this is all my opinion, which I am certainly entitled to have, is it a guarentee, no of course not, but i WILL TAKE BETS.

unsuccessful yes, total failure, not even close. Furthermore, is one year enough to make a judgement from a team perspective, especially with a high round QB? absolutely not, brohm underwhelmed in GB and failed to win the #2 job, that much is true, but that doesnt necessarily mean he is a "total failure". As mentioned at length before, GB matched the offer we gave Brohm, he chose to come here, they obviously werent ready to let him go completely. Now back to what I said originally, with the system being familiar to him, he has already stated he is more comfortable than in GB, last yr is a wash IMO, this yr, we get to see a guy who is confident in the system, he knows he has the physical tools, thats never been questioned. so take a step back and look at the player and his circumstances: young, classic type QB, renewed confidence and strong arm and has a great feel for the system that plays to his strengths. This opportunity couldnt get much better, by all accounts this system appears tailor made to fit Brohms skill set, which is great. Nobody is giving him a chance in the national media, which is fine, he hasnt earned it yet, but with his skills, he has the potential to explode for big time #'s this year, and if he does, we got a legit QB for Peanuts, thats a steal. Hence why I said, "Brian Brohm is the best kept secret in the NFL"
-
the no confidence brohm is gone, he has been rejuvenated with the system and will come out guns blazing in TC this year, just you wait and see. Brian Brohm is the best kept secret in the NFL right now.
-
why would we build around the #2 Qb, that doesnt make any sense. Now once we build around Brohm, we should be unstoppable
-
we will have the qb issue fixed once Brohm wins the starting job
-
we need to take a hard look at ricki stanzi from Iowa, and nathan Enderle from Idaho, not just the top 3 guys. Both Stanzi and Enderle are intriguing prospects worth keeping tabs on this season, especially Stanzi.

Troy Smith to Buffalo speculation
CarolinaBill replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, because our HC said as much at the end of otas/minicamps. Go look it up -
the confidence problems he suffered with in GB were due in part to the system, and has been well documented. As he himself stated in the article, he has regained confidence and has confidence in the system the resembles what he ran at UL. this wouldnt be the first time a player, esp a chan gailey coached player (maddox), has come back from almost certain failure to find success. As we all know, only time will tell, but IMo, brohms troubles in GB came from the situation, system, and disappointment. not many players, esp a QB, would be stoked about dropping a whole rd (projected top 10 to top 2nd rd), then getting drafted to a team with one of the premier QBs in the league (rodgers) and a completely foreign system that doesnt complement his skills (WCO). Im not making excuses for him, he clearly failed to live up to his billing in GB, but I can see where it wasn't a good situation for him, which is why he spurned their matched contract and opted to come here instead. I can only imagine that he is even further delighted with his decision now that chan gailey is here. Our new HC has had success rehabbing so-so Qb's such as jay fiedler, tommy maddox, kordell stewart, tyler thigpin, plus has coached a few greats like Elway and Aikman. Bottom line is, he will have to win the job, we all know that, nothing will be handed over, but from what we have seen and heard, all signs are pointing to this being brohms team in 2010, and that's probably a good thing.
