  1. I have read threads about 1/15/10 possibly being tied to "many things" but I was intrigued by someone mentioning that a change in the team's uniforms were coming....here's my question.......what would be the best look?

    1. the baby blue 60's home/away jersey w/"standing bison" helmet that EVERYBODY loves

    2. the 90's home/away jersey & red helmets w/"charging buffalo" that bring back memories of the Glory Years

    3. a new entirely different look w/current color scheme...dark blue & red

I choose option 3 and here's an image of my example....

Is this the theory that the Buffa-Slug worked so well for turning the Sabres around, that we should adopt it too?

I would want to see the 60's throwbacks, however I would not mind the 90's jerseys with the white charging buffalo helmets.

  2. Weeb Eubank

But really, how many Super Bowl winning coaches have even gone on to coach other teams? There's only been like 35 SB winning coaches in the history of the world. Of those maybe 4 or 5 have gone to other teams. Off the top of my head, Weeb, Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Vince Lombardi, and maybe that's it. Vermeil took one team to SB and lost and went with another team and won. Some have taken a team to SB and then another team like Dan Reeves. Some have won SB and then gone with other teams like the Tuna and the Walrus.

Not sure how one one's the Super Bowl.

As far as Marty's son goes, you can have him.

Actually there have been 26 coaches to win the Super Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_head_coaches) and of them 11 coaches, (Lombardi, Stram, McCafferty, Flores, Gibbs, Ditka, Parcells, Seifert, Johnson, Holmgren and Vermeil) have gone on to coach again (With Gibbs coaching in Washington again).

I would say that when you consider almost half of all Super Bowl winners have gone on to coach again (and haven't won a single one), there is sufficient data.

Trends can be broken, and I, like most others, would love to see Cowher here. I also have no problem with an up and coming coordinator, as it has been proven that they can work, and we shouldn't just give up cause we screwed it up twice.

  3. Um, no. A coordinator interested in becoming a head coach doesn't wait until after the season when he has the ability to take advantage of the bye week. If the Chargers go deep, the Bills will most likely have hired a coach before he's available. Apparently, he doesn't want to coach the Bills. Not surprising.

More likely, given the choice he would rather win the Super Bowl and risk the loss of the Bills job, if we get someone else. If we don't get someone else, he is worth more, and if we do get someone else, he coaches somewhere else and enjoys his nice SB ring.

  4. I'd still put him above Frazier.

Failed HC over up and coming DC?

The guy has a lifetime 18-37 record as a HC. I am pretty sure that if you gave me NFL talent, I could accidentally win almost that many games.

I have no problem with a Coordinator, and as long as he brings a real OC, I would have no problem watching Frazier walking our sideline.

  5. If the guy really wanted a shot at being our head coach, he could find two hours to sit down with the Bills. I'm sure that they would come to him given the circumstances. People declining this coaching vacancy really speaks volumes about the state of this franchise. And people around here have the balls to chastise Jerry Sullivan and negative posters for being pessimistic all the time.:thumbsup::bag:

Or, he wants to wait and have his shot at winning a Super Bowl with his current team. Then after he has done that, come interview and command more money as a Super Bowl winning DC.

  6. Gentlemen, (and ladies for all three of you who post on this board)

I know this has been a decade mired in mediocrity, but I have good news.

I am almost positive that next year will be better than this year. In the year 2002 we exceeded our performance for 2001. The same in 2004, 2006, and I would argue that our team was better in 2008 than it was in 2007. (Mind you it was the same record, but our 2008 team was clearly better. After all for the first half of the season we thought we were going to make the playoffs.)

So since history is the best indicator of the future (if you ignore everything history was wrong about) then my friends we should expect to finish at least 7-9 next year regardless of coaching regime, which means we either will start beating our division opponents or go 7-3 against all non-divisional opponents. So do not fret my fellow bills fans for even if we regress in 2011, in 2010 our team will be moving up! :D

Just to throw some semantics out there, we are undefeated this decade.

  7. Palmer is a reasonable---that was a solid comeback. Noa rgument there.

    But otherwise....

What would Benson be "coming back" from? Sucking?

Hargrove---??? What did he come back from? Being a POS? Serial substance abuse suspensions?

I can see Brady getting the nod, but I think what Caddillac Williams did was far more impressive. Even if he was on an awful team.

  8. if you are really worried about reaching, then there isnt ONE QB in this draft worthy of our first round pick.

That is what I was saying, I would much rather have LeFevour in the 2/3rd round than the smaller, less fundamentally sound Tebow in the first. All I was saying was that even for this team (who reaches a round or two early on a lot of draft picks) this would be considered a reach.

  9. ok, does anyone else think it weird we are flying everywhere to interview coaches instead of them coming here?

is this the practice of other organzations too? seems to me ralph could save some money flying guys to buffalo. or does he, gulp, not consider the city in winter time a selling point?

i know this is kind of a strange thread, but other then flying to court cowher, it makes no sense to me why the are flying to see frazier on a bye week. if he wants it, his ass can come down here. we're offering a multi million job, not the other way around.

this method of hiring sounds very much like brandon's work... i mean - how do you get teh sense of an organization when you DON'T come to the friggin building? and you don't see the facilities, the offices, get a sense of the tradition and history?

where is he interviewing these guys? over dinner? in a hotel?

In order to interview coaches who are on teams that are in the playoffs, the interview has to be set up at the coaches convenience this week for teams that have a bye, next week for teams that win in the wild card round, and between the NFC/AFC Championship game and Super Bowl.

There isn't much time for us to be able to interview them, and it has to be done according to that coach/team, while they are preparing for their playoff game (which is apparently what comes after the regular season for good teams).

  10. I like McClain a lot, but I think it helps you look much better when you have a beast like Terrence Cody playing in front of you. Watch tomorrow nights game as Cody consistently demands double teams and opens up tackling opportunities for McClain up the middle.

My top choices for our pick at #9 are: Bulaga OT, Bradford QB, or Tebow QB. Straight up difference makers for this franchise.

Taking Tebow #9 overall would be a big reach, even for this team. I can deal with Bradford, though I would rather take LeFevour (and we can get him two rounds later.) If McClain declares and we can still get him, I would love to see it, but if not Bulaga, McCoy, or Okung (any available) has to be where we go.

Also, I think I am in a Fantasy league with you, weird.

  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Trestman

As I posted last week, this guy has a very good resume. The one concern is that he's been a bit of a gypsy. If he was inclined to return to the NFL as an offensive coordinator, I'd love to have him with the Bills, based on his credentials.

Haven't seen him with my own eyes enough to know if I would want him as the head coach.

Question, and I know that people here seem to really hate on him, but I would like to note that Van Pelt has called two really good games in a row. I am not sure how much Dick took control of actual play calling and hamstrung Van Pelt, but is there any other reason to not keep him, other than the fact we are bringing in a new HC?

  12. The Bengals sucked for how many years and are now starting to look decent again. Once we land a top tier coach and start winning again, we'll finally start getting positive feedback from the media. I really don't give a rats ass what those clowns say.

That isn't totally true though. When we were a perennial Super Bowl contender, all the talk was always about how bad for the NFL it would be if we were to make/win the Super Bowl.

Buffalo has never gotten any love, the difference is the teams of the 90's used to thrive on that, these guys just don't care. Hopefully whoever the new coach is brings back the chip-on-their-shoulder attitude.

  13. Yeah, that's one explanation. Another is that he just didn't adapt to the pro game. A 7th round nobody thaken in the same draft making the team over him speaks volumes.

Except everyone is already reading multiple existing Brian Brohm threads and this guy thinks his point, that Brohm has a good arm, is more important and needs it's own thread. That was my point.

I wouldn't call a guy who dominated the SEC in the one year he started, and led his team to the National Championship a nobody.

I fall in the intrigued category with Brohm, interested in seeing what he can do, but don't have very high expectations.
