HA!! When I first moved to DC used to bartend at Tunnicliffs !!Course this was back in the mid 80's, but go have a draft for me tonight!!Spent many a good night on cap hill
Love it up here, only problem is how long the drive is out to Wegman's, which is the only place I have been able to find Blue Light around here).
Been to Tunnicliffs, consider me a fan. We live on the other side of the market (block from the metro). There is a newish place called Molly Malone's (irish pub) that there were a bunch of us who would go watch the games last year. Their Buffalo wings aren't great, but they make a mean Old Bay wings.
-
Will be watching the games from my couch in Eastern Market. Unfortunately my house charges a cover (only payable in Labatt Blue Light).
More than welcome to stop by

But of course Sparano knows that Gailey knows that Sparano is expecting the Wildcat.
Fortunately, Gailey has anticipated this.
Sounds like Sparano has fallen victim to one of the classic blunders.
All he has to do is divine what he knows about Gailey, is the the type of coach to run the wildcat.

I wasn't particularly happy with Brohm's or the whole teams performance for that matter, TE played O.K. I suppose, but the long ball to Evans could have went either way and just as easily INT. The O-line starters looked shaky and If you had to grade them as a whole(starters/2nd/3rd string)) most folks would probably give them a failing grade.
The Running game looked dismal without CJ and maybe kelly the well balanced dog is correct, Spiller needs to start and stay on the field, he's our new age Thurman Thomas.
I will say this though, I missed half the friggin game
You guys tell me If I'm out of line here
I am impressed with how we looked, and have been impressed with Trent this pre-season and really hope it translates to the regular season. I don't get your comment, because if he had chosen not to throw that pass to Evans, and only thrown the safe passes, then he "doesn't trust his receivers." Trent took a shot, trusted Evans to make the grab, and it worked out. To say that since it "could have just as easily been an interception" is the case with most shots that QB's take, and it's actually the reason he has looked so much better, is because he did trust his receiver to make the catch.
-
Like the both of you, I am very encouraged by the way Trent played, but I wish I would have seen more intermediate throws and completions.
Last night Trent was 4-4 for 66, 50 of which came on one play. Same with Indy 5-8 for 93 with 70 coming on one play.
I am still excited but tempered.
While I see what you are saying, the intermediate stuff usually comes after you can back the DB's off a bit. So it's not really fair to be expecting the intermediate 15 yd completion, when he really only had the chance to throw 12 passes in those two games.
In both of those games, he completed the long ball, which would soften the defense up a bit, and then didn't really have another drive to show whether or not the intermediate stuff would be there.

Replying to In what ways are the other AFC East teams better than the Bills?
1. Quarterback (NE by a mile, Miami & NYJ slightly)
2. Receivers (All of them by a big margin)
3. Offensive Line (see #2)
4. Defensive Line (see #2)
5. Line Backers (may be close)
6. Coaching (see #2)
7. Front Office (see #2)
8. Ownership (see #2)
Could probably go on. Not trying to be negative, as I am as big a Bills fan as anyone else on this board, but just answering your question. Now if you ask how other teams in the AFC East aren't as good or better than the Bills I would respond:
1. Running Backs (best in the division, with Thomas Jones gone from NYJ, much better than them and NE, close with Miami-although I would take our depth when healthy)
2. Defensive Backfield (as good as anyone else, maybe the best depth in the division)
3. Kickers (best punter & place kicker in the division)
4. Best fans in the division as well as the entire NFL.
I refuse to believe that Mark Sanchez is better at QB than anyone but possibly me.

On a previous post, I commented that I would like to see us go 1-15 and take a QB. Since that time we have seen the offense look good against the Colts and Cinci. Even if we are going to be better that most "experts" are predicting, is another 7-9 season better than a 1-15? Right now I really don't know which I would prefer, which is why I thought I would post the question and get your thoughts.
OK, I can't type this early in the day. 1-15 is what the subject line should say.
You realize your scenario there would have us playing at least two games in December that would actually mean something?
You wouldn't want to see meaningful football being played in December in Buffalo for the first time in 10 years?
-
To me that says it all!!! One pass made his numbers. I wonder what his QB Rating would be minus that throw? Also he benefited from CJ's run and McGees return or the score wouldn't have been so Rosy when he left.
...Give Brohm a chance with the real players next week!!
The bottom line is he did complete that pass. You have to take his game at what it was, not "well if this didn't happen then my point would make sense."
I mean, if you are going to discount that pass, you should be counting the pass that Edwards dropped right on SJ's hands and he dropped (interference or not, gotta catch that).
Any "ifs" change the entire game, so that mentality is just pointless.
-
get BROHM first team reps.. if the captain hadn't connected on his 70 yd td pass last night, he would have thrown for 23 yds - seen enough of the captain
And if Norwood hadn't missed a field goal we would have won the Super Bowl. Still happened, can't discount it.
-
well yea, TE makes a good throw on completely blown coverage for a TD....aside from that nothing to get excited about. A solid performance by him and BB.
TE did take a good shot and get back up but i think we are excited bc normally he shares genes with Tim Connolly and gets knocked out but instead on this play he gets back up. Again, thats a hit you should get up from.
BB - great velocity, poise, but missed some real opportunities to create a QB controversy. You wanna be a #1 NFL qb you gotta hit one of those fades, there was room toward the sideline. Granted, one of those ....to the top of the TV screen was flat out dropped.
TE is still #1, BB prob takes #2 for now.
This is the dumbest thing I have read in a while.
You can't evaluate how a QB played, and then say, well if you take out one of his 5 completions, he played like crap. He threw eight passes, completed 5 of them (should have been six, as the downfield shot to Johnson should have been caught, interference or not), and was willing to throw the ball.
I don't really care who our QB will be, as long as they make the games interesting this year, but to evaluate a QB's play based on, "well if you take out 1/8 of his performance, it sucked" is just plain stupid.
Brohm played a good game, but Edwards did too, and for all of the bad games that he plays, he should get some credit for this game.
I am so tired of hearing everyone saying "oh he never takes shots downfield, and he only checks down." Then he takes two shots downfield, and people ignore the pass that he put right on SJ's hands, and then say "well it was blown coverage, so I could have made that pass."
Its just dumb, and it isn't an honest conversation. BB had a great game, unfortunately he did it during a game in which Edwards showed a few flashes of what he could possibly do if he had some confidence.

Bills are the home team. Home team always get 3.5 pts in the spread.
-
He was very Drew-ish against the Bills as a rookie, I have to say NO.
That's funny, he didn't look Drew-ish.
-
The more touches CJ gets, the higher probability of us scoring.
John Madden everyone, here in the flesh!

Well if you need a parking permit, let me know. It is diffuclt to park near the stadium without one due to the set up of Fed Ex Field.
Know its a hike, but love how easy it is to get in and out via metro.

The announcement that Spiller and the Bills have come to terms on a deal will come tomorrow (Friday). What am I basing this on? Nothing factual and no insider information. Nothing like that. Really, nothing at all, other than my Spidey sense. I'm good at randomly predicting things like "I feel like there's going to be an interception on this play" and "I bet after pushing the elevator call button that the elevator doors to the left will open first, not the doors on the right". When I walked out of a meeting an hour ago- and 1,000 miles from training camp- I just had a gutt feeling this thing was done. So I'm throwing it out there. The deal is done and will be announced tomorrow. Mark it down!!
I would like to commend your intuition as it looks like reports are he will sign today.
Well done.

Me, my father-in-law, and a buddy are coming up from Richmond. We have an extra orange parking pass if any BILLS fans are interested in parking next to us in the lot and tailgating, just looking to recover the costs of the parking pass.
Go Bills!
Live in DC and will be there, as well as going up to the Baltimore game.
Sec 221 Row1, can't wait, don't get up for many games anymore.

i heard that T.O. showed the key to Marshawn and now the key is missing.
I heard it showed up missing right about the same time he couldn't find any of his twenties.

You know Graham Harrell, Colt Brennan and Timmy Chong all put up monstrous stats in college and all can't even cut it in the CFL. Stats aren't everything.
I have seen this in a few different places, why does everyone believe that Colt Brennan is in the CFL. He is under contract with the Redskins and was injured all season, after a somewhat impressive pre season.

It sets the franchise back ANOTHER year staying with a ****ty QB. Look the guy SUCKS! time for the last stragglers to finally understand this clown needs to go. If not for Dick Jauron he NEVER would have started in this league.
I swear to God there is something about Bills fans that they must cling to any hope these ****ty QB's they keep putting out there are the next great QB for us. The guy sucks. Sucked in College, sucks in the pros and has no business starting in the NFL. Punt kick his ass and get some real talent in here for a change.
He isn't saying start him, he is saying let him compete. I think when you look at the start he had last year (he WAS throwing down field, he WAS throwing with accuracy) before the concussion, he looked like he could be a middle of the road starting QB. I think that the worst thing that we did with our QB situation however, was to come out during the offseason and announce who was going to start for us. All he is saying is it doesn't cost anything to let him compete.
-
Maybe its because we haven't had a real QB talent here in so long they think a staff should be able to polish a turd. I bring this up because we still have fans, even after all the proof on the field to the contrairy' that think Edwards is going to be the QB we need.
Edwards sucks. NO staff is going to be able to change what he is. Captain checkdown, oft injured, won't throw with anticipation or into tight coverage, ****ty throwing motion....in college and pros! You can't change what he is. Just like Collins, Hobart, JR, Flutie, Bledsoe (really going downhill when we got him), JP and now Edwards....ALL were nothing but BACKUP talent that the 'brain trust' at OBD though was starter quality.
But no matter what the proof, no matter how they failed its always 'the coaching' that is the problem. Well those guys listed went on to other teams and started a short while before teams (much quicker than the Bills) figured out they are nothing but backups at best and put them there. And still we had fans screaming that this guy or that guy just needs more time blah blah blah. NO THEY DONT! You will know in about 30 games or so if a guy has it or not IF that long. But we still have fans that fought like hell for this guy or that for some reason.
I am praying that Nix pulls the trigger and gets us some damn good talent in here to develop so we can put the QB issue (THE most important issue on a team) to rest finally.
I definitely agree that none of the QB's we have had were Pro Bowl quality, or even top end QB's, I think with the exception of Bledsoe/Flutie, you are making a chicken and egg argument.
We as fans, and our organization, are so trigger happy to run a QB out of town and get the next guy in, that we have never developed a QB. We got lucky because the UFL did it for Kelly, but it could be argued that if we had a coach who actually knew how to develop a QB, they wouldn't suck.
Now these guys would still be all limited by their potential (I think they were all starting QB caliber, though it would have been as a middle of the road starter), but we will never really know the full potential as we have never actually developed a QB. Most QB's take a few years of starting, or better yet sitting and learning from the sidelines, but we never give a rookie QB time to sit and learn from the sidelines.
I agree that it is probably time to get Trent out of here, I still think he has the talent and is just screwed up in the head, but I don't think that its so much that we haven't had real QB talent, as we haven't had any coach who knows know how to get anything out of his QB.

Ah, that's not lame at all! I LOVE IT! In fact, I even watch the replays several times! HA! Now, that actually may be lame!!!! Seriously, I really enjoy it. I actually wish I could be there to watch it live. I think it is a very interesting process.
PS. Get DirecTV if you can. Much better than cable!
I fall in the its not lame category.
However in all fairness, I am currently DVRing the Senior Bowl practices so...

I meant in the Senior Bowl practices. Not the blind squirrel happenstances.
The reports yesterday were that he was simply imposing his will, and was immovable.

Look, I love McNabb, but lets be realistic here. Their offense didn't put any points on the board, their defense played well, much like ours, and McNabb's 15-32 didn't have anything to do with Dallas losing that game.
Interestingly enough, Dallas lost because of a bad coaching decision, followed by a horrible decision by Tashard Choice once he got the ball. Lets be serious here, Shanahan's coaching had nothing to do with that win, and honestly, looking at the stats, there is very little difference between our game and the Skins game. We played a team that didn't make a stupid mistake, and that is all.
