  1. I know we have a lot of bonafide NFL coaching experience, but let's look at what Marrone actually did, instead of whining about how he should have been fired after his first game.

He took over a team that was putrid. Last year, we regularly gave up in the middle of games (see Jets, Patriots, 49ers, Seahawks), and turned them into a team that had at least 4 teams that were better than us on the ropes.

Yes our OC isn't anyone's favorite choice, but he has evolved almost every game this season. Marrone/Hackett didn't make Chandler/SJ13 fumble in the ATL game. He didn't make EJ get injured during CLE. HC is responsible for everything, but he didn't even make our Coverage team give up huge returns to Cin, Cle, or NE.

Blame him for the clock management in the 1st NE game (however I like the aggressiveness), however but for some unfortunate injuries, and a few stupid fumbles, this team is 8-8 and on the rise.

We still need to find out if EJ is the answer at QB (I think he is), but Marrone lit a fire under this team, and has improved and answered a LOT of question marks.

  2. The play call was a bad one, and another example of Marrone/Hackett making poor use of the talent that they have to work with. Why not use one of your horses, Fred or CJ, on a screen pass? In situations like this, smart coaches go to their best players with plays that have the best chance of success. Belichick has been doing this for the past 12 years, one of the reasons for his success. Having a rookie QB throw a fade to a second year receiver who has not distinguished himself was a mistake and resulted in the most likely outcome. Well coached teams run high percentage plays with their best players to keep drives going, which in turn helps them to win games. Using the "I like the agressiveness" line is nothing but a copout.

Come on it was just 3 weeks ago that we had the ball at the 1 and we gave it to Freddie four times, run run run run just like everyone is complaining that we didn't do here. You know what happened, we got stuffed 4 times, and everyone was complaining that the play calling was awful. That's just absurd.

  3. My problem with this team right now is that they haven't adjusted their play calling for the personnel that they have on the field. These guys are not completely interchangeable. If Freddy and CJ are dinged up, you don't just tote out Choice and give him the ball 25 times. That's exactly what's going on in the passing game unfortunately. They're throwing the ball 32 times a game no matter what happens. Neither Tuel nor Lewis can make the throws. It makes no sense to put the burden on them to make a play, when you got other more talented football players that could potentially make plays. That third down play was a panicked throw at best into coverage when he had an open guy in the end zone. The result is a 14 point swing of the game. Sorry to say, but when teams are -3 in the turnover battle, they lose almost 98% of the time. Bills offense clearly blew the game by virtue of poor play calling and poor execution. I would rather have seen them run the ball twice more and NOT get in the end zone, then let Tuel try to get it in through the air. It's a continuing case of finding ways to lose.

I would say that when a rookie OC is calling plays for his 4th string QB, and dials up an offense that gains 470 yds against the #5 defense in the league, they are calling the plays to suit the players on the field. You can say that the call was wrong, and you know what, it might have been. HOWEVER, that pick wasn't on Hackett, it was on Teul (who played WAY better than I thought he would). He missed our #1 WR WIDE OPEN in the middle of the end zone. There are legitimate complaints on this board about Hackett's play calling, but the guy is taking a team of injured and backup players, and getting a TON of production out of them.

He isn't a big name, and he is still learning and growing, but I think he is the best OC we have had in quite some time. He has had three rookie QB's producing with two banged up RB against a schedule of tough defensive teams. He is putting his guys in a position to score, and it just so happens that they aren't converting.

  4.

    That's easy:

    1) Pettine is great. He really is. He puts players such as Searcy and Robey to make plays. He's the best we have had at DC as far back as I can remember. The aggression is just fantastic.

    2) Mario has 11 sacks.

    3) Between Dareus, KW, and Branch, the Bills are stong up the middle.

    4) Kiko and Woods are 2nd round picks playing at first round level.

    5) Glenn looks like a totally legit LT.

    6) Hughes for Sheppard.

Credit Marrone as you choose, I will go with the above.

Pettine didn't dial up an offense that got almost 500 total yards.

  5. I'm always amazed at how we can be one of the most consistent scoring teams in the league, and even after a win, it's just a whine-feat about Hackett.

He is putting the team in a place to score, and we are scoring (a lot) of points. We won , were on the rise, and Hackett is showing he is putting an offense run by a UDFA in a place to win.

I get he's young, and not the best OC in the league, but the guy is getting the job done.

  6. They sign Tebow and they sell out the next two games. They won't win any of the next 4 games no matter who they bring in. Bengals, @ Dolphins, @ Saints, Chiefs. They are all better than the Bills. Even with EJ they might have won one of those games. Bottom line is they can sell 15,000 tickets with Tebow. How many are they going to sell with Tuel?

Bottom line is signing Tebow would ruin this team for a loooong time. You are back at square one with Manuel, because everyone calls for this QB whose throwing motion looks like that of my dog to be the new starting QB. We already hear it here with the constant "Start Tuel" threads, and it will be much, much worse, when EJ comes back and our bi-polar fan base starts calling for the backup every other play.

Sign Harrell/McElroy/Thigpen, and send the message to Manuel to get himself healthy and that this is his team. Anything else ruins this team in the long run (yes even worse than the people on this board who think the sky is falling imagine it is now).

  7. His plan sucks? LOLWHAT? He took over easily the least talented team in the league. You buils successful teams from the lines out. He drafted what you hope to be a cornerstone OT in Joeckel. Now he has set his sights on riding out the storm with Gabbert, who is hilariously bad. Why would he do this?

Because he's got a perfect situation. He's in year 1 of his tenure and Gabbert is a 3rd year pro which buys him that last "maybe he can still reach his potential" season. Caldwell can say he's "evaluating" while letting Gabbert drive the train right to #1 overall and the franchise QB they desperately need.

5 games in and "the plan sucks"....wow

Keep in mind, 5 games in here, and Marrone and Hackett should be fired, and Teul is going to be a solid QB!!

  8. When the capital letters come out, you know the vitriol is oozing. Did Tebow not sign your Sunday School Noah's Ark coloring book or something?

Signing Tebow would be the worst decision this franchise could make. I would rather bring Losman out of retirement. Tuel has a better arm, and that is saying a lot. Also, the last thing you do with a rookie QB who is showing promise, is bring the Tebow circus to town. You don't want to have his disciples calling for him to start after every single EJ incompletion (see: everywhere he has ever been). Get someone who is obviously a caretaker, and give EJ his few weeks, and we still win 7 - 9 games. It's not the end of the world.

    TL;DR: God No!

  9. It goes both ways.

The Caps fans slurred it up in my section.

Starting throwing food at a couple young South Buffalo Boys.

The Caps fans then walked down, invited the young men out in the hallway for some fisticuffs.

I don't think the Caps fans were prepared for the battle tested young South Buffalo Boys, because the Caps guys were the aggressor, threw the first punch, and lets just say they got finished in the end.

The difference is, if a visiting fan threatened to rape a Buffalo fan's wife or daughter, the visiting fan would likely not walk out of the arena on their own weight.

That being said, those Buffalo Boys were out of bounds with their comments. None the less the Capitals fans were not exactly gracious hosts last night especially when it was clear their sports team wasn't nearly as passionate about winning as the fans were.

That is fair, and in my six years as a Season ticket holder, I have gotten in my fair share of scuffles with Caps fans who were being a-holes to visiting fans. Personally, I don't think there is a place for it. I am sorry that you weren't in our section where we are a fun loving bunch and we are usually very welcoming (most of us are three large blocks of CNY natives).

I have said my peace, and can now go back to being a proud Buffalo Bills fan, however I was simply shocked, and felt I needed to say something, at how not a single Sabres' fan in my section took issue with telling someone they were going to get raped. I would have gotten into it with those guys, and they wouldn't have left, but I'm not really one for getting in a fight with my fiancee right there. I was taken aback and I guess, knowing how we pride ourselves on not being jackholes (and that Bills' & Sabres' fans usually cross over).

Anyways, it's over, let's just agree that...

    GO BILLS!

  10. You forgot the baby-eating.

    :D

No you're right, cause telling a young girl that she is going to get raped is totally appropriate. It isn't that you (being the fans that were around us), were just an embarrassment to people in general, let alone one of the best sports cities in the world. And of course if another teams fans came into The Ralph and acted that way, you would think it was funny too right?

  11. 431 was all up in the Caps crease.

The Highlight was having 4 rows of Sabres fans sing "NaNa-Na-Na-Hey-Hey-hey-Goodbye" during the mass exodus of Crapital fans mid 3rd period.

    It was glorious!

As I said in another thread:

A native CNY'er, life long Bill's fan and DC Native/Caps season ticket holder. Much of the cheering was good natured and all in good fun as my Caps got destroyed, and it has never been so painful to hear "Let's Go Buffalo" in my life. That being said, I was outstandingly disappointed at how awful some of the taunts were coming out of Sabres' fans at Verizon last night. Yelling homophobic slurs @ gay fans, not cool. Rape jokes (yelled at Caps fans in the stands, including telling one they would get raped like the Caps did), low and really not befitting people who, I assume, are also part of the best football fan base that I know of. We have a lot of visiting fans in our section, and I am shocked at how embarrassed I was to be wearing my Bills hat last night, and just a terrible representation of upstate NY.

That said, y'all kicked our butts, and hopefully Ottawa keeps losing...

  12. Jeez, the Sabres look damn good right now...hard to believe that this is the same team (albeit healthy) as the one that was playing from about November 1st to January 20th... Miller has been playing out of his mind, but it isn't all that. Defensively, they have made an almost 100% improvement. I don't want to count the proverbial chickens before they are hatched, but this team could be dangerous in the playoffs, should they make it.

As a native CNY'er and die hard bills fan down in DC (and Caps season ticket holder), I gotta say that you guys beat the crap out of my Caps.

I will say I was shocked at how awful the Sabres fans were. Where our tickets are, we get all of the visitors, and I have to say, knowing that Bills fans are usually Caps fans, they were the worst fans I have seen all year. Rape jokes/homophobic slurs/tossed beers, not cool fellas. Wished that y'all had just stuck to enjoying the game and good natured taunts toward the team.

That said, good win for you guys, and hopefully Ottawa keeps losing.

  13. Did Batten ever get fined for the hit he put on Vick last week when he lead with his helmet? I don't recall seeing anything about it afterwards but when it happened I was sure the league office was going to send him a bill.....

    Just announced, 15K.

  14. NO. he can put all the weight on he wants, but he can't grow another 4 inches. Kellen Moore cannot "make all the throws" - not even close. Lets not get all enamoured with 5'10" quarterbacks just because they're lily white and play for the lovable small school.

We can argue about whether he can make the throws all day, but hasn't our defending SB Champion's QB put this whole short QB's suck discussion to rest? And I've met him, Moore is 6'. No more, but he's 6'.

  15. On the Benson fumble, I thought they ruled it as stopped forward progress? It was still ridiculous how it ended though.

Forward progress isn't reviewable, and I heard the whistle blowing. That one wasn't a bad move, but the extra second had me fired up. Thankfully it fired up our D too.

  16. you realize just how much Chan loves this guy and his ability to direct the offense on the field. I don't think we (fans) have any appreciation for the intricacies involved in being a successful QB and identifying coverages, calling out protection schemes, finding the "hot" receiver, etc..., let alone putting the ball in there. I think whatever rookie QB gets drafted by the Bills, he is gonna have an awful tough time earning the trust and faith of Gailey like Fitz has. I see Fitz being the starter here next season and probably longer (assuming Gailey is here).

This is why I say draft Kellen Moore and give him a year or two to put some weight on and learn. Same kind of toughness, and can make all the throws. If he comes out, he goes in the 4th ish. We can still get a defensive monster to play alongside Poz.
