  1. Being Bills fan is like believing in God. You have to have faith above all else. You have to have faith that one day all your suffering and sins will be wiped away and you'll be delivered to heaven (Superbowl). You go to games on Sundays (church), you pray for a miracle (that never happens), you give your tiddings (tickets, merchandise), congregate (tailgate) and sing together (Go Bills).

The only problem is most fans have as good of a chance to go to heaven as the Bills have to win the Superbowl!

So my advice to you is instead of being eternally damned, pick another team, at least if you are going to hell in the end you can experience heaven one Sunday night in February before you go!

  2. Yes it only one game, yes other coaches have remained calm-but they had winners! This team needs a kick in tha azz. Please dont you dare compare Gailey to Joe Gibbs and Tom landry..are you SERIOUS! Those coaches didnt need to fire their team up because the players took care of that, ala Jim Kelly. We have no Jim Kelly's, we need somebody to light a fire and if the players wont do it the coach has to.

You guys crack me up comparing Chan to Hall of Famers.

  3. Sorry guys, I remain hopping mad that we ignored the QB and OL this past offseason. I have said it will cost us dearly, and it is turning out I am correct. I'm hard pressed to find any team we can beat at this juncture. I'm hard pressed to find any other team that would even start our mediocre QBs. The stinkin' fins threw our guys around like rag dolls. Pathetic.

Now I know some of you guys will howl, "but Merle, there was nobody available so we were smart to pass on a QB and OLmen." To this I say hogwash. We could have traded a pick or two for some talented vets that certainly would be better than wha twe have now.

As for Gailey, the jury is still out. To say the team looked "rusty" is an understatement. He was a risky selection, let's hope he pays off. Rest assured I will not continue to give him a free pass if we look as gawd awful as we did last week.

+1 read my post on "where's the fire" to view my opinion on Gailey so far.

  4. Where's the Fire Coach? You walked the sidelines like a Zombie. You had the deer in the headlights look more than once. Tony Sparano was across from you, in your home debut, yelling and firing up his players and bending their ear when they screwed up. You know who you remind me of, Dick Jauron. Same sideline demeanor, same pathetic news conference making excuses for losing, playing uninspired football. His offense looked like a Div III wannabee-shotgun-pistol,c'mon coach! Get fired up, get in somebody ear hole, cuss out an underpreformer, show me you care!

The most emotional I've seen Chan is when he yelled at his own fans for heckling poor Trent! He yells at teenagers heckling practice but turns zombie like in his home opener. I want to see that you care, kick Trent in the azz next time he throws a 3 yard pass on third and 15. Grab Cornhole Green by the face mask and head slap him good next time he's used like a turnstile. We fans are more passionate and animated then you. Next Sunday act like you gotta pair and get this team fired up!

Am I the only one who thinks grandpa needs a redbull?

  5. With Poz out this week, who do we have that can cover Jermichael Finley? This could be a matchup nightmare for us. Ellison? No, Davis? Hope not, Kelsay? Not a chance, Torbor? Nope. I saw where Ellison will be taking Poz's place on Sunday. Finley will eat us alive unless we game plan for him. He's too big for most DB's, too fast for LB's so what do we do? Maybe this is where Scott comes into the picture. I can see us using him to cover Finley as he's our biggest DB, at least plays the biggest as evidenced by his LB role last year. I think Scott could cover Finley underneath as long as he has safety help over the top. I really am wondering how we will account for Finley during the game, any thoughts?

  6. I think Trent Edwards has a form of Chuck Knoblauch syndrome, sometimes referred to as "the Yips" - "Steve Sax disease" - and "Steve Blass disease". I'm not being facetious, I mean this in all seriousness.

The definition of this disease or syndrome is: the apparent loss of certain fine motor skills seemingly without explanation in one of a number of different sports. Sometimes they recover their ability, sometimes they compensate by changing technique, or may be forced to abandon their sport at the highest level.

After doing a bit of research there have been many athletes in all different kind of sports that have been effected by this syndrome, and at the highest levels.

I liken it to "stage fright". Someone that can sing in the shower, but can't get in front of an audience. Even if the audience is a karaoke bar and the person has the words right in front of them and has sang that song a million times in their head.

To me there's a distinction between Edwards and a QB that can't play. That distinction is that we have seen him play well. We saw it in the early games of 2008 and in pre season. So we know the ability is there. Then after several hard hits and concussions the guy just lost all ability? I don't believe that. I think he's got a mental block. Heck even the national media is baffled at why he won't throw the ball. It has to be puzzling Gailey as well. He saw the guy flat out win the job with an admitted open competition. Then he goes out with real bullets flying and performs like that. I truly believe it is pure stage fright and a "loss of certain fine motor skills seemingly without explanation."

I think you over analyzed this situation. Trent lacks gonads. He's probaly got a medical condition called Low-T or low testosterone. I saw a commercial for this and said "that's our QB they're talking about". Symptoms:no passion, weakness, moody, low energy, plays with long hair and bakes cookies.

  7. I might consider watching the game if Trent Edwards shaves his head, and gets a tattoo on it which says NO MORE COOKIES. It would mean a lot to me and maybe the team. Seriously how many pro QB's bring cookies to the team like he's done in the past. Best of all during the post game press conference he wont be able to play with his hair while he gives his politically correct answers to why the offence is so inept. He should be cut but I might reconsider if he gets drunk and is found face down in the gutter on Hertel after puking his guts out and two (has to be two for corrobaration)or more Buffalo women complain he tried to molest them. The guy is tied to his mother's apron strings and will never break away or break out.

Remember Todd Collins. You knew something was wrong when it was revealed he was taking staples from the Bills offices so he wouldn't have to pay for them. How many pro QBs are that cheap.

And you know that JPLosman was not going to make it when he said he got really excited when he saw Brett Farvre in his "little red shorts"

Because Jim Kelly was the toughest and meanest QB we have ever had the result is something worse than reversion to the mean. We have swung entirely into the other direction. You would think after Rob Johnson the Buffalo FO would know a pansy when they saw one but apparently not.

Problem is they do recognize a pansy and because they too are pansys they pursue others like themselves. I would respect Trent if the next time Cornhole Green, the human turnstile, gives up another sack, Trent gives him a head slap and chews him out. Instead Trent stands there twirling his hair planning on baking more cookies for his lineman. Has anyone ever seen Trent with a woman? Just asking.

  8. On a number of plays last week there was more than enough time for the big ball to be thrown. It just wasn't for whatever reason. On the deep ball to Lee that was thrown (and missed), the ball was out at about 2.5s. It's not like he needs a monstrous amount of time to let that ball go. There was also the 31yd pass to Nelson that was called back on a holding penalty. I think the play calls are there we just need a guy to let it loose and take a chance!

I agree. The problem lies in the QB. Trent is the worst QB in the NFL-IMO. It doesn't matter what Gailey schemes, Trent cannot play QB at this level.PERIOD! I would have rather seen Jimmy Clausen play this entire year and see if he had "it". If he didn't we still go 1-15 and get the first pick next year. Not only does Trent need to take some shots, so does our front office.

  9. We often hear about how every team needs an identity, something that sets them apart from most other teams, its normally something the team does well and has done well over an extended period of time. In many cases the teams identity can be directly connected to why the team wins football games.

Many folks believe the Buffalo Bills lack an identity, and to be a successful ball club the Bills need to form an identity. In my opinion the Buffalo Bills have had an identity over the last few years and as in many cases its the reason the Bills generally win.

Jabari Greer was part of that identity, eventually moving on to the World Champion New Orleans Saints where Greer was instrumental in helping the Saints win their first Championship. Antoine Winfield was part of that identity before he moved on to the Vikings, Winfield is seen by many of his peers as pound per pound the hardest hitting player in the National Football League.

The Buffalo Bills have been producing some of the best DB's in the Country and the with the addition of Leaodis McKelvin the Bills continue to draft and develop some of the most talented CB's the NFL has ever seen. After a rough rookie start in the Bills 09 season where the young and talented McKelvin caught a kickoff in his own endzone with Buffalo up 24-19 over the New England Patriots in the season opener with 2:06 left in the game. McKelvin chose to return the ball instead of downing it and fumbled around the 30 yard line. It was his second fumble of the game. New England drove from the 31 yard line for what turned out to be the winning touchdown.

We all know what happened afterward, Leodis Mckelvin's property was later vandalized by a couple of teenagers painting obscenities as well as the phrase "take a knee" and the winning score of 25-24 in favor of New England on his front lawn. McKelvin chose not to press charges against the two teenagers.

Leodis McKelvin is a cornerstone of why I believe the Buffalo Bills are building a Championship caliber football team and with the likes of the ever so dangerous Terrence McGee and Jaiurus "the bird man" Byrd, throwing the ball against the Buffalo Bills defense is like throwing into the mouth of a pack of hungry wolves.

So the next time someone asks you, in a pass happy league, going up against some of the best signal callers the NFL has ever seen, who are these guys,

You tell them the Buffalo Bills are a QB's worse nightmare, that's who we are,

    Bills 31 Packers 16

    I Billieve...

That's beautiful! 31-16 you got gonads, but your not serious are you? I agree we have some great DB's, too bad they can't throw or block. It'll be game 4 before our offense scores 31 points...COMBINED! But I like your spunk. I too Billieve, just not in this current team. I Billieve in my Bills, just not most of these Bills if that makes any sense.

  10. Well, since the Bills are going to have a pretty bad year.........the freaking out on this board is going to reach epic proportions.

As well it should. I don't understand how the fans are being labeled as "freaking out after 1 game". Are you serious? try 160 games, no playoffs and a team that looks worse than last year. I don't think it's fair to put it on the fans, put it on the Bills to give us something to cheer about.

  11. A lot of posters on this board get a "woody" bashing Kelsay all the time.

Kelsay is no pro bowler. But, he's no slouch either. Maybe it's because he doesn't have a lot of sacks. Can you name more than a handful of LDEs that do?

OK, he's not the perfect DE. But, the fact is he's still a starter for the Bills. He's started for 7 seasons at LDE and missed only 2 games... How many starting DEs can say that? He's on his 4th GM and his 4th head coach, and he's still standing and starting. Are 4 Gms and 4 HCs totally stupid and the bashers smart? Now, Kelsay, in his 8th season is asked to convert to OLB in a 3-4 defense after playing his entire at DE career in a 4-3, and welcomes the challenge.

This just in folks, Kelsay is not what's wrong with the Bills. The Bills defense is not what is wrong with the Bills. The special teams are not what is wrong with the Bills. The Bills offense is the single biggest problem the Bills have... in particular, the QB and OTs, in that order.

So... if you want to bash a Bills player, why would you pick on Kelsay? There are at least 20 players other than Kelsay that you could shred.

4 GMs and 4 Coaches have liked Kelsay's body of work and his peers elected him captain again. That's fact. Do you think they're all stupid?

Yes. They are ALL stupid. Does that answer your question? The FACTS are that he was an average end on a horrible team, that's why he started. The Bills personnel is so poor they had nobody better, that's why 4 coaches played him. FACT is he has looked horrible at his new position, can't cover, can't seal the edge, can't get sacks. so the only reason he plays is because we suck so bad, FACT. I will not take the opportunity to personally attack you for your opinion on Kelsay, we see things entirely different and I'll leave it at that.

  12. OK Its Official. We ARE the worst team in football. I wish I could argue against it but I cannot rank us higher than any other team.

WOW! I will not look at the power ranking again until the season ends. Any predictions where we will finish?

I say we finish ranked #30

    What say you?

  13. Nix made the call according to my source. Lynch for Rodgers + we throw in lifetime supply of wings. Nix thought they'd bite but to no avail.

Seriously though. I would trade Lynch, McCargo, Yoboty and Brohm back to them for Matt Flynn. Flynn is in the same position as Aaron was, waiting to play behind Farve. Unfortunately nobody wants to play for the Bills. I'm sure he would nix any trade to us when he's on a superbowl team.

  14. That is just one of the differences between a winning club and perennial losers. They never miss an opportunity to get better by getting extra picks, dumping aging vets who will be unrestricted at years end and getting free agents that fill needs. the Pats do it all, we do none of it.

If we try we pick the wrong guys, dump the good ones (London Fletcher) or move up in the draft to pick busts (McCargo, Losman). We hammer at the players, which stink, but our front office put us in this position.

  15. Their offense doesn't scare me. It's that D. Damned Rex Ryan. How is it that we can't land a coach of THAT caliber. Chan Gailey my ass.

Thats what Ralph has created, a total and complete mess. There are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world. More scarce than presidents, but nobody good wants our job. We are so pathetic we couldnt beg enough to get a good coach. Shanahan and McNabb-given those 2 people we could have been good this year. Instead we got Cornhole Green and Gailey-way to go Buddy and Ralph, you guys rock. So glad I have supported the club for over 30 years. Man am I getting bitter, the Bills are bad for my blood pressure.

  16. Signed a Davis to be the signal caller for the 3-4 defense, someone with plenty of 3-4 experience and and excellent at stopping the run

signed Dwan Edwards, one of the "big name" free agents and has 3-4 experience on a WINNING TEAM. The only reason he was overlooked was due to health concerns, and so far, he looks damn healthy.

Drafted a playmaker that can make an impact right away. People were complaining that this team had no impact players that can make big plays that are game changing. People say we don't need another RB, but we did need another WR and spiller will also has been a recieving threat, so yes he does fill a huge need that we needed. This team needed playmakers like crazy.

Drafted a NT, the most crucial part of the 3-4 defense.

There are so many things he did that I like. You can argue the spiller pick I guess.... but I wouldn't have drafted an OT there. I would have drafted a defense player probably because those were the only players left there that I would have wanted.

Not to mention, One of the things that sucked most about us last year was we couldn't stop the run.... well, we drafted our NT, signed davis and edwards, who all are supposed to be good against the run.... and damn it, we fought that wildcat on sunday like we never did before. It is too early to tell, but it looks like Nix has taken care of the run defense in just 1 offseason. If he can get OLBs in the next offseason to provide more pressure, then this defense is going to be dominant.

All in all, I think Nix has made this team better. People are so focused at LT and QB, but I would rather have him fix the run defense and draft playmakers than drafting a mike williams or aaron maybin. Take the best player on the board. And if for some reason Bell is able to work at LT (which is looking more possible after this game), then that means we really only need a RT (and maybe center) which isn't as difficult to find for the oline. people can say our LT is the worst in the league all they want, but the truth is, the cowboys (a superbowl contender!) have it waaaaay worse than us at LT. In fact, their whole line might be worse than ours. And that is saying something, I know.

Yes I did leave out some good signings. We tend to leave out the things that disprove our theory. However I stand by my opinion that the 2 most crucial needs were ignored. If you call Cornhole and Wang competent NFL starters I disagree. Nix takes a QWB in the 7th and custs him. He did do some things right, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, but on our 2 biggest needs he whiffed!

  17. How does the Cornell Green signing impact your opinion of Buddy Nix?

Cornell is making $3 million per year (including roster bonuses) yet no other team showed interest and the Raiders were eager to replace him. He's 34 years old and is not getting any better. This is a terrible decision in terms of the quality of the player and the financial impact to the team.

He is clearly much worse than Jonathan Scott, who we could have retained for an $850K tender. More amazingly, he is the worst player on an offensive line that was already the worst in football.

The Nix devotees on this board need to take this colossal personnel failure into account when talking about how this guy is going to rebuild the roster.

So true. Lets look at Nixs record so far:

Cornell Green-worst free agent signing in years

Spiller- luxury pick we couldnt afford, already had 2 starters + Bell

QB-Does nothing to upgrade worst QB in NFL and hated by fans, not respected by the players

OT- Does nothing, besides Cornhole, to improve position, actually by cutting Scott made it worse

    OLB-no improvement, Kelsay? Really?

Nix made this team worse his first year.

If we started a poll on this board to determine our draft, free agents and cuts i think we'd do a better job than Nix, cant do any worse.

  18. Well after last night I know the Jets set 4 teams worst records but hey, they are still a shoe in for the superbowl and will still have a power ranking high than the Bills.

I hate the Jests but they were going against the Ravens D. Sanchez isnt great but he tries to go downfield unlike our wimp of a QB.

Lets see how we fair next month against the Ravens. It doesnt help to draw negative attention away from this putrid, aweful product by comparing it to another aweful product. The Jets D held them to 10 points, any predictions on how many points the Ravens put up against our D when their on the field the entire game? Sorry but I cant justify by any measure what happened on Sunday. We looked worse on offense than the Jauron days, and the playcalling was worse. Maybe pop warner is all these players are capable of.

Falcons, Vikes, Niners....all played road games. Falcons played a perennial playoff team and SB champ 09, Vikes played SB champ 10. I'll give you the Niners.

Jets played arguably the best D in the league with the best middle linebacker ever....playing out of his head no less.

We played the Dolphins at home....their D is nothing special. We were putrid on offense, period. It's time to be realistic instead of pointing and actually believing "see...look at them....were not the worst!"

    +1

Tired of those who find solice in others suckiness. Any of those teams mentioned would kill us.

  19. If this was/is/supposed to be a rebuilding year/s then why not take it seriously. Where was Troupe yesterday? Where was Carrington? Why not replace Kelsay with Maybin? Why didn't we cut Trent and Fitz and start either Brohm or Brown? Get rid of Jackson and Lynch and keep CJ and Bell as our primary backs. Jackson and Lynch clearly aren't our future.

Yesterday reminded me(many of us) of the last 10 years...putting lipstick on a pig. We have nothing to lose so give our young draft picks the reps.

    HAS ANYTHING REALLY CHANGED?

  20. It's time for Trent to go. The fact that he isn't already cut has sealed my opinion that Gailey, like Jauron is a mere puppet for the profiteer.

Agreed. My opinion on Gailey took a huge nose dive when he gave Trent the starters job and then let him throw it 35 times.

I lost all confidence in Nix when he failed to adress the offensive line and QB position during the offseason, the 2 biggest needs on the team.

  21. I agree with this.

As I posted elsewhere, I am thinking about calling it quits with this team and it is NOT because of the horrible product on the field. That, I've learned to endure.

I've been to dozens of games at the Ralph, I've sat everywhere, and I thought I'd seen it all. Sunday made me think otherwise, and I was sitting in expensive seats. The lowlights:

    1) I saw a handicapped woman get heckled for taking too long to get down the stairs. She was being assisted, slowly, by an attendant, and someone yelled "Get a f'ing walker." (If that heckler is reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself - honestly, you are an a-hole to the core.)

    2) After the non-call when Trent got roughed up along the sidelines, the idiot drunk kid sitting next to me turned to me and said, about the ref (who is African-American), "Typical f'ing n'er." (If you're reading this, you're a drain on society and should just throw yourself off of a bridge today.)

    3) Some guy insisted on standing the whole time, even though he was about 6'3" and was standing in front of two small boys, whose father pleaded with him to please sit so they could watch the game. He responded, "Not at a Bills game - not a chance." (If you're reading this, Mr. Pollack - I assume that's your name because that was the last name on the Bills jersey you were wearing - you have no class. None.)

    4) There were drunk teenagers everywhere. Beyond drunk - totally blacked out drunk, wasted, by the second quarter. (If you were one of them: listen, I like to party with the rest of you, but you really need to learn how to control yourselves. Seriously, get a freakin' life. It's just alcohol, and this isn't Russia, your lives cannot be that miserable that your only outlet is to get so inebriated on Sunday afternoons that you can't see straight. Time to be an adult and be productive. Sorry to be the one to tell you that, but obviously your own parents didn't/aren't.)

This was just a snippet, there was plenty more. And you know what? Despite what some of you might think, it's not like this at every stadium. Giants fans are very knowledgeable, passionate fans, but they don't act like complete jackasses. Same with Redskins fans and even Ravens fans. Really, the Bills, Jets, Eagles, and Browns are in a miserable class by themselves, and there is no excuse for it. I don't know if I can associate myself with it any longer. Perhaps I'm just getting older, or perhaps it really is getting worse. I don't know, but I don't think I could ever bring my kids to something like that, which is very, very sad.

Wrong about the Redskins. I brought my son, who's a Skins fan, to a Skins home game. I wore Jim Kelly, he wore an old Jacoby. I had more F laiden words yelled at me while standing next to my 10 year old son. We live in Virginia now and I'm glad he's a skins fan and not a Bills. He's got something to cheer about and 3 Superbowls in their history. But Skins fan were absolutely vicious to me while with my little boy. They're no better than the idiots at the Ralph. Idiots and drunks are at every stadium and on every corner of America.

  22. Gailey = Offensive Guru?

I know I've heard that before. Gailey will play to his players strengths? Spiller will make the line look better? This team is more dysfunctional in more areas than is even comprehendable. The scouts, Owner, Head Coach, GM, QB, OLB, OT, TE, are possibly the worst in the NFL.

There's a reason Gailey was fired preseason, and we gladly scooped him up like a Raider cast off to take us to the Superbowl?

Being a fan of this current team is like having an ugly twin brother, your stuck with him till your gone.

  23. Yeah, the running game was terrible. But at least the running game was terrible only running half the plays that the passing game ran.

I'd contend that we'd prefer to have a good quarterback than a good running back though. Most of the good, contending teams do it with elite-level quarterback play, and with their running games being an afterthought. Not always, just most of the time.

It's also easier to stop the run without the fear of the forward pass, than it is the other way around.

No arguments though with your post in general though - it is a disaster to only rush for 50 yards, given that you drafted a running back so highly and running back was previously thought of as a strength of the team.

Exactly. Who heard of Adrianne Foster before yesterday? We had good enough RB's this year, couldn't afford the luxury pick in the first round. The Bills front office has things backasswards, they want the neat toys instead of the grinders who let the toys work properly. I knew this season was shot when Nix ignored the QB and OT positions all offseason. I called it in July and said Nix failed miserably his first season by not addressing the teams 2 biggest needs. I was chastised by all the Spiller lovers and Best player available proponents, well you guys got your wish. How does that turd sandwich taste now? You CANNOT win in the NFL with 2 terrible OT's and a horrible QB....Period!

I've been watching the Bills for over 30 years. It is frustrating to think that I could run the team better. Give me control over personnel for 1 year and we're in the playoffs. I would do whatever it took to get a top rank QB and a LT, we have enough talent for a playoff run with upgrades at 2 positions. I cannot believe that the idiots at OBD screwed up again by going into the season with the worst OT's and QB in the NFL. But you know what, we're still buying the product so they have no reason to improve. An empty Ralph might initiate change. I wish I could stop being a fan but after 30 years I'm stuck in this dysfunctional relationship.
