The Pats just get it better than everyone else.

Did I hear correctly that Gronkowski didn't play at all last year because of a back injury? -
Round 4, Pick #107: WR Marcus Easley WR - UCONN
Mike in Syracuse replied to Tom's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not that it means a whole lot but Easley chewed up the Syracuse secondary and spit them out. -
Round 3, Pick #72: DE Alex Carrington Arkansas State

The Bills ranked 30th against the run in 2009. They gave up an astonishing 2,501 yards and allowed an average of 4.7 yards per carry. If that weren't bad enough, consider that they surrendered an average of 156.3 yards per game. Fortunately for us, someone in the Bills front office is paying attention and realized that you can't win if you can't stop your opponents on the ground. Rushing the passer was the least of our worries last year. -

The Bills return man gauntlet
Mike in Syracuse replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A kick return for a TD is worth 6 points. A 50 yard run is worth 6 points. A 45 yard pass for a TD is worth 6 points. Special teams is 1/3 of the game. You bet your ass that his ability to return kicks is part of the reason he was drafted. -
Running Back Was a Position of Need

A lot of people seem to be ignoring the fact that Lynch is one mistake away from a season long suspension. Given his history and lack of judgment it seems to be foregone conclusion that he'll screw up again. Jackson isn't getting any younger and we don't even know if Lynch will show up to camp! -
I was thinking about this earlier while watching some of the CJ Spiller highlight stuff. Has there ever been a nastier collection of return men than what Buffalo will be fielding this season? Normally a team can kick away from the opposing teams best return man but this is going to be a HUGE issue for our opponents this year. Add to that the fact that Bruce is back...oh boy! I can't wait!

Ut Oh, Nix Says We Are Keeping Lynch

Bush excelled in college in part because he was on a GREAT team. Spiller excelled in college because he's freaking amazing. I'm going on record right now in stating that Spiller is twice the player Bush is. -
Let's be clear on one thing, Gailey is not anything remotely like the combo of Jauron/Schoenert. He excels at offensive game planning and his offense WILL distribute the ball. No one should be happier with this pick than Fred Jackson and Lee Evan. Hell even Roscoe might see some touches.

Spiller Reaction NFLN vs ESPN
Mike in Syracuse replied to mary owen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Before he was picked Gruden said Spiller would be the rookie of the year and would make the team that chose him instantly better! -
I hope he can catch passes too because they're desperately thin at WR in an offense that's built on the WR.

Round 1, Pick #9: CJ Spiller RB Clemson
Mike in Syracuse replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you 14? "Epic Fail"? Seriously? You stated that MN needed a QB to make the playoffs yet you conveniently ignore every other team that has made the playoffs with average QB play. -

You don't need a great OL for Spiller to be successful. He's not Marshawn and doesn't need HUGE holes. Flare him, throw to him in the flat or run him on a quick slant and you've caused a MASSIVE mismatch. He'll do the rest. With Gailey at the helm I LOVE this pick! -

The Jets went 9-7 with Favre at QB and didn't make the playoffs. The Jets went 9-7 with Sanchez (ROOKIE) at QB and made the playoffs. Should we conclude that Sanchez is a better QB than Favre? Your theory is broken. -
Schefter on Mike and Mike.....Bills/Tebow

I can't help but wonder what kind of QB Losman may have turned into if Gailey was his head coach from the start. -
If it's Spiller at 9...
Mike in Syracuse replied to South Jersey Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Picking Spiller at #9 would surprise me but I won't say it would shock me. Jackson is getting old and Marshawn is one stupid decision away from a permanent vacation. Spiller is the type of player that scares the **** out of DC's. Unreal speed, vision, quick cuts, no way to cover him with an LB etc... Spiller has great patience (ala Thurman) and unreal speed. The kid ran past the DB's in the best conference in football. In most cases it wasn't even close. Gailey has mentioned his desire for a "scat" back for this offense. Make no mistake, Spiller is not a bigger Roscoe, if you get this kid the ball on a flare or in any space past the OL then he's is 6 points waiting to happen. Spiller makes your OL instantly better. Marshawn has power but zero vision. If they do pick Spiller I have confidence that Gailey will find ways to get him the ball and he'll have a MONSTER rookie year. -
I just don't get this. Last year we damn near split with every other team in our division? This was with a high school offense and enough guys on IR to fill a hospital wing. Yet somehow, we still almost play the other teams in this "uber" division to a tie? The Jets are a fraud, Tomlinson is ancient and the loss of Jones will hurt them. The patriots are another year older and haven't dealt with Welker's loss yet, which is arguably the largest loss in the division. The Fins addition of Edwards was nice but they still have HUGE question marks at the QB position. Not Graham's best work.

Our offensive scheme was so bad last year that Evan's never had a chance. Lee will explode this year, just watch.

Which would you rather have ?...Marshall at $10 mil
Mike in Syracuse replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing that keeps getting skipped here is: WHO'S GOING TO THROW HIM THE BALL? Pennington is one sack away from breaking in half and can barely throw the ball 20 yards. Henne hasn't proven to be all world, he's not even all Florida at this point. -
It'll be interesting watching Pennington destroy what is left of his shoulder trying to get the ball to Marshall. I hope that plan on running a lot of quick slants. Despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth here on OBD, how many times do you have to see this to realize that big name trades rarely yield positive long term results. Washington is a freaking case study in this.
