I think the biggest frustration is this season may be one of the best windows of opportunity to win the title.
The stars are aligned for the Bills for this season. AFC as a whole appears to be weak. Threats like Chiefs and Patriots are minimal this season. Ravens are very beatable. Titans without Henry is a huge opportunity to stack wins. Cupcake schedule and weak division is significant.
Going into this season and trade deadline every fan knew the pass rush had to improve and that the offensive line was a liability.
A top 5 quarterback and a top 5 defense with all of the stars aligned rarely happens.
Yet, we are pissing away and not living to the potential and promise shown the previous two seasons.
And, going into future seasons, Allen’s cap # and the lack of developing cheap drafted talent around him is going to make it hard to build that offensive line.
This season was the season to go all-in and correct, fix, and grow the offensive line now and going forward to learn if this is a line issue, running back issue, or coaching issue.
The problem is it is all three and our perfectly aligned stars of opportunity this season are being wasted away. Frustrating!!!

The NFL is a perfect cocktail for Congress. It is a distraction from real issues. Thus, Congress will spend time on this unfortunate email drama and the underbelly of NFL owners, coaches, and players. Money, power, social agendas, gambling, and everything that positive and negative in this world plays itself out in locker rooms, owners’ meeting and media deals.
Then, add the platforms of rich and opinionated talking heads like Gruden or Stephen A Smith. Next, add talented but misinformed players that are extreme on either side of social justice issues. Lastly, add arrogant but foolishly flawed people like Kraft, Jones, Goodell, or Daniel Snyder as "leaders" in the NFL, and you got a dumpster fire of Congressional sound bytes.
I heard once the following: If “pro” is the opposite of “con”, then why do we call it Congress instead of progress?

Great Defense if we don’t face an elite power running back.
-
So the Titans easily march down the field with Tannenhill looking like an all pro. He completed three passes (I believe three straight which included a huge 3rd and 6) to Nick Westbrook. Westbrook did not have a target before this drive. The defensive line can’t generate a pass rush with their starting LT out and the secondary can’t stop Westbrook on three straight pass plays. On short routes in a weak sauce prevent defense, this guy was Jerry Rice/Randy Moss carving us up like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Man…this is the kind of game you have to win. The offense had its missteps, but this falls on an uninspiring “D” who created no pressure and made no name receivers look solid. I expected Henry to knife his way through the Swiss cheese but a stop or one pressure would have been what you expect a team to do with some pride and guts the last 5 or so minutes.
Damn. Bills should have won by 10 or more easily.

Bills 31
Titan 24
This is a great test for the run defense. As long as the Bills make Tennessee completely one dimensional, then I can easily see a 10+ point win.
Henry is tough but if held to under 100 yards and not too msnyblong drives, our offense and pass defense will pick up another impressive/confidence building win!

Love seeing those deeper passes by Allen and feeding Diggs too! The offense is humming. Only small nitpick is when it is first and goal at the 11 after a bomb to Diggs, Daboll’s got to stop these “cute” plays in the red zone. Feed Moss and Singletary. Too short passes and a run by Allen is not punching it in. This team has so much capability that it is very realistic this game is 31-3 or 31-10 at half.
The Zebras reversal on that catch seemed a little fishy. NFL has to make sure that the Bills don’t blowout Chiefs. Bet the Zebras got one of those New York office phone calls.
Nice 2nd Quarter! Now put them away like a tired and overmatched Wilder against Fury! Unleash a 2nd half fury crushing all hope.
Let’s go Buffalo!

Both the offense and defense had some great moments (Allen’s running, making Mahomes work for completions, and the fumble recovery.)
So many penalties though and mental mistakes where we just need to score on a turnover and play with greater awareness on “D.”
I had to write this down now because we are so talented, yet very sloppy. Interested to see if we can change that narrative and play like the best team in the AFC when we have it all together.
Let’s get this win!

Dumb and unkind thing to write.
With that said, if everyone was honest, it seems that the thought and moral standards police changes stances or has rules that only apply to, for, or against specific groups or specific ideologies.
Imagine how many players, coaches, and fans would be left (me included) if we exiled everyone based on past comments.
Why there would be as many people left as the amount of wins the Texans may get this year: 1 or 2.

Wow! That was an extremely detailed and enjoyable post. Great work!
Lesser skilled version of a Scouting Report on the Texans.
1. The Texans suck!
2. There best player is sort of suspended/benched/on the "naughty but no resolution list."

Irv gets a smiley face just because he used the British version of skeptic. I had to look it up just to be sure I was reading correctly.
For a brief moment I was wondering why Irv might be referring to himself as a waste treatment tank! 😀

Overall a solid win. Many things to build on, however, my favorite stat from this game was no fumbles by Allen or our running backs!
The most encouraging thing is our team can get even sharper in all aspects of the game even as we are winning convincingly.
Go Bills!

Great post. Warren Moon is criminally underrated historically and threw a great deep ball.
Allen has all the tools and attributes. Continued consistency is what will make him truly elite. He will get there.

Because we don't have anyone on the team named Tribisky.

And he did that in 14-games
He was very good that year...8 years ago, 5 or 6 suspensions ago, multiple teams ago, and many chances on the NFL stage to show both the talent and a burning commitment to win for himself and his team.
That boat sailed by multiple times ago.
As others have said, if he can get QB pressure, lockdown a top TE, make 4 and 1 decisions, or teach someone on the team to play guard well, then sign him.
-
What number do you think is higher? The number of current Bills players who have played for the Panthers, or the number of suspensions in Josh Gordon's career?
If Gordon had one suspension and this was 2012-2013, then yes.

I think many people, including me, can get caught up in the word, "regression" because of the excitement of putting up "fantasy numbers."
I don't see any actual regression in Josh's game. I think the team will run a little more for balance. I think the defense may improve and provide shorter fields for the offense to work with.
He is going to be a perennial pro bowl/all pro candidate. And, as long as the roster builds depth and mainstays remain on team over time, Bills will be a top 2-top 8 team yearly over the next decade.

All great insights and points made. Thanks!
A couple general thoughts as I read comments.
1. Appreciate those who have the personal historical knowledge to give a player in the 60s, 70s, or early 80s their due as I have seen very little or bits and pieces.
2. Talley was unintentionally left off. My bad. He would replace Milano.
3. I found the notable cuts list to be getting so large and demanding that I left off or removed names from the notable list. Great counters and points in replies.
4. Players were not put into a depth chart, per se. I would have Cookie as my FB/3rd down option or #3 overall in his position group.
5. So much depth at all positions in team history, however, I honestly thought about not have a TE on my team at all.
Curious to see your team and comments.

With 50+ years of AFL and NFL history and probably 1,500 or so players that have represented the Bills in a game, who would be your all-time 53 man roster? You can find my attempt at building what I consider to be the best overall roster.
How many quarterbacks do you keep? Which great player gets left off because of positional depth? Is your team represented throughout the decades or does it represent the time you first became a fan? Curious to hear your process and all-time team!
Resource and Criteria
1. I used this database to help me remember and comb through names…https://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/buffalo-bills/alltime-roster?letter=B
2. My Criteria for choosing players was based on 4 things
- The player spent 2 or more years on the roster
- I picked players I thought would be quality players regardless of era or football rules. These players would fill their role well in any era.
- Position mattered. I was looking for my best team. I would rather have that 6th CB over say my 8th top RB in Bills history.
- I tried to look at what the player did as a Buffalo Bill and not based on what they may have done before or after their time with Bills.

What is it about him that makes you feel "nice pickup"?
I like that he has played 38 games in the NFL and started 18 games, including RT as well as some crossover experience at LT and guard.
The Lions are a messy organization, but there starting five o-line is above average as a unit with Decker, Ragnow, and Penei Sewell.
I think Brown becomes a starter down the road and will be a solid backup this year. I am not as high on Doyle being a difference-maker this year. He has raw ability and measurables, but being on the PS I think will give him experience.
I just personally think a guy like Crosby is super-low risk, he has starting experience, some versatility, and I believe he would contribute more this year than Doyle for a Super Bowl aspirational team.
National media has also indicated Crosby as a younger surprising cut with some upside still in his game. Thus, my initial interest as a possible short or long-term OL upgrade.

What are thoughts on Crosby, the RT just cut from Lions? He is 25 and has starting experience.
I like our rookie Brown, but I am not too excited having two rookies as backups at OT.
I think Crosby would be a nice pickup for the Oline and somebody who could be a valuable reserve.

The answer is probably keeping 7 DE and taking away a DT like Zimmer, Butler, or Phillips. And, then unless their is remarkable improvement, someone like Basham will not dress on game day unless there is a rash of injuries.
-
This is a class of very good players. I don't see a first ballot player. I think 3-5 will get in at some point, but I don't see one player that screams out as one of the most elite to ever play their position.
I believe the most deserving offensive player is Steve Smith. He was his generation's Tyreek Hill as an undersized, speedy, tough, and electric player to watch.
DeMarcus Ware was elite/near elite for about 6-7 years at a hybrid DE/LB. I can see him getting in.
Wilfork may get in because of Goodell's love affair with the Patriots, and he was an defensive anchor on title teams.
Again, I don't think these 3 get in the first year, but these 3 I believe have the strongest case to eventually don the Gold Jacket.

Glad he is signed! Hope Beane and Company can get cheap players around him to keep the Super Bowl window open longer.
Great news…still that is a lot of quiche!
What song describes how you felt after the Jags loss?

You know that depressing song in Wedding Singer.
Ok...maybe not that extreme, but it is very disheartening to have a wide open shot at being the team to beat out of the AFC.
