  1. These are great as usual. Thanks, again.

I think that gif of the goalline play to Clay again shows that he should have caught the ball, hits him in two hands, in addition to being a late throw and behind him. But he has to catch that. I would expect Nick O'Leary to catch that.

One thing that came to mind though as I read the post was that there probably was a good chance that TT waited so long because the play before the ball was batted down at the line. If you look close, the Jets DE is in his eyeline when waiting for Clay to get open. If he throws early as everyone wanted him to, including me, it could be batted down again. So he waits the extra beat, the DE is taken a little wider by Glenn, and then TT throws. That could be it in a nutshell, rather than he holds it way too long like he often does.

Still not a good pass and still needs to be caught anyway.

Yup. Four paragraphs and I agree with everything you said.

  2.

I'm with 3). In Game 15 last year, I thought he looked like he might be taking a step, yesterday looked like a positive continuation of Game 15 vs the "3 steps back" terrible preseason.

Clay has got to f***ing catch that ball. If he can't catch it, he has to f***ing bat it out of bounds. That's what TEs being paid $4.5M with a $20M bonus on the books are expected to do.

Phenomenal athlete Tom Savage sucked yesterday. Phenomenal athlete Andy Dalton sucked yesterday. Point being, we do judge NFL athletes on their performance as NFL athletes, not relative to what Armchair Arthur or Coors Lite Charlie could do. That said, you are correct on all points about Taylor and the post to whom you're responding.

You're correct. Watch the film & you will see that Clay was moving to the right and the pass was at his left ear instead of a perfect throw. Big deal . Catch the damn ball. Clay had a couple of nice plays but overall his game was below his usual standard. IMO.

  3. Just tried again via the online chat. Stated I had cancelled earlier and was intending to not have it but friend said he had gotten the ticket for free. Billing rep offered me $17 off for 6 months ($179.94 total cost for Sunday Ticket). It's their current promotion. I said that was still too much and that I did not want him to add it to my account. Requested someone else to speak to, either retention or sports packaging. He said there were no other offers. Said I wanted to speak to them anyway.

Took awhile but got someone in retention. She read over the convo and gave it to me for free this year! I've had Directv for 3 years and done this each year. First time i've gotten it for free. I thought I was going to have trouble because i'm in the middle of a 2 year contract and don't really have the option of fully cancelling.

Since I am a Florida Snowbird, I called to make sure my Sunday Ticket wasn't going to start & have me billed automatically. So I called about a month ago & they offered me a $45/month credit.

I called Customer Retention on their direct number and asked about the Ticket. The girl laughingly asked who my team was. When I said the Bills, she said for Bills fans the Ticket is free. She was kidding of course about the Bills fan part, but it was for free. She then said that she would knock off another $10/mo & gave me a choice of 4 months free Showtime or 6 months free HBO.

All this and I never asked for anything, just schmoozed them by being polite and asking if my FL Ticket was still active in Bflo.

For those who don't have it, the Retention direct number is 866-431-8482. Good luck.

  4. I do also agree with expanding the 53 man roster.

But an easy start is just to allow all 53 be active on game day.

So go to 60 man rosters with all 60 active on game day.

Agree they do have that spring game against eachother (that is why I talked joint practices and such). They also have typically around 80-90 players all season though too when you count redshirts.

Re: Expanding the roster, why not just increase the Practice Squad to about 15. While they're at it, they could solve the lack of QBs by designating one spot on the PS as untouchable. This would enable teams to draft & spend time developing a QB.

  5. Boldin retiring is a HUGE embarrassment for the front office. There is no there way to spin it. He was brought in to soften the blow from trading Sammy and to provide much needed leadership in the locker room. Now what? He quit on the team before even playing one snap at home...and the locker room is going to be a wreck now. Good luck spinning this to the remaining players. WHAT A MESS

Relax SoCal, the players are adults. Also, the players can see better than anyone how good Reilly & Shorts have been looking. I was all for the Boldin signing but wow did he look slow & overweight last game. We shall see.

  6. FWIW in 3rd team players I thought Peterman did ok.

Sure there were hiccups but how many were on Peterman or the receivers?

His 2 runs were impressive if you ask me.

    Yates meh.

Also, I read that the Vikes blitzed over 60% of the time. That's a lot to put on the plate of a QB playing for the very 1st time. I think that all the "weak arm" talk knocked him down in the draft. We shall see.

  7.

Really you think there are fans who are oblivious to that? Wow. Maybe I am just a geek but I can't enjoy watching a game unless I really get into the technical and tactical aspects of how it is played.

I will listen to your podcast this afternoon while I am at work...... really enjoyed last weeks.

Yeah, there are fans who are "oblivious to that". Many fans are women who enjoy watching football & have no idea what a five step drop is.

  8. FWIW, that article leaves out Dennison's quote on how he believe that the anticipatory throws can be learned:

    http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2017/08/buffalo_bills_oc_rick_dennison_wants_qb_tyrod_taylor_to_throw_with_anticipation.html

I believe there's a couple other versions of this quote more in context as well.

Don't know if Dennison CAN teach this, but perhaps all is not Doomed?

Throwing with anticipation is not rocket science. It's probably 90% confidence or lack thereof. Fear of int's is a direct result of a lack of confidence. The old adage that "practice makes perfect" is true because to a large extent lots of reps tend to give a QB that elusive confidence. Any QB at the NFL level has the ability to throw a WR open. The will to do it when he is tightly covered is another issue. We shall see with Tyrod.

  9. That is pure concentration issues. Can be fixed. However doesnt seem it with his drop rate so far in camp

Concentration issues (really what he has) can be fixed. The talent is there not to try and fix the drop issues for cheap (like we got him)

He has been catching/dropping passes since he was 14 years old. Why hasn't he concentrated during this time ?

Nothing is going to change. I think that coaches just like his size.

  10. Jim Brown was:

1st team All American in football.

1st team All American in Lacrosse

Started on the Syracuse basketball team

Oh - I almost forgot: he was arguably the G.O.A.T. in the NFL. He was the same size as DE's but DB's couldn't catch him.

  11. No, it's blackballing and we can go there. Please feel free to put them side-by-side and make the case. Before I hear "Yates won a playoff game," Kaep almost won a Super Bowl. He had 16 TDs and 4 INTs last year. Yates on a roster doesn't mean that people think that he's better than Kaep because there is something called a contract in the NFL. If Kaep would play for 1 year and $815k he'd be in the league probably (despite the fact that owners don't want him there).

I can't believe that this derailed into a Kaepernick conversation and I reallly can't believe that people actually think that TJ Yates is better than him!!

My guess is that K is probably asking for too much moola. Re: Yates - let's just relax & see what unfolds. BTW we just picked up a QB. Probably just a camp arm but if Yates fails, perhaps we go with two QBs with the new guy on the practice squad.
