Actually, I was listening to the Eagles radio network for the first half (driving), and their announcers were very complimentary and fair to the Bills . . . basically saying many times, the Bills are the better football team. And lets face it, he does have one of the best radio voices in football.
Gotta make that my alert notification tone for my phone - every time I get a text Merrill Reese can just yell "They Jumped - The Eagles Jumped" - sweet........
great idea, how do you do that?

Yeah, Pears was the guy who had to block Babin most of the day, and did an outstanding job, as he has all season . . . pretty soon he'll be holding out for that money the Bills were willing to pay Clabol.

Do some reading and get back to us.
And you wonder why I avoided every stat class I could in college and grad school.
Still not sure what any of this says, accept that the Bills are first . . . I think that's good, based on the stats and all.

I can't agree with this. I think that Smith has done very little since he came here. The team is in desperate need of WR help but Smith, who is taking up a WR spot, can't even make a catch. He has stunk on special teams, which were supposed to be his specialty. And frankly, he has been mediocre in the "wildcat". I don't see him do anything out of that formation that Fred Jackson (or maybe even Spiller) couldn't do better. At this point, Gailey is using him correctly: two or three plays per game just to keep the opposition working on wildcat defense during the week. That's about it.
Disagree a bunch! Not sure what your expectations are for the wildcat, but it has been successful 80% of the time . . . first downs, touchdown yesterday. Now, if you expect a Homerun every time, well, then I would suggest to be a bit more realistic.
And as far as him taking a WR spot, he is also a back-up QB, special teams player, and WR. That argument is thin. I think his role will continue to grow. Not sure its fair to be down on him yet.

I'm not going to knock any of our players, but I'm not going to say that we have the best line. Remember, we run a scheme that spreads out opposing D's, running the ball out of 3 WR sets. We also have a QB who gets the ball out very quickly.
I'm very proud of everything we've done so far. But, I don't know that these guys are any better than we thought they were. If we had to play a power run game, or be in a situation where Fitz needs more than 3 seconds, I think you'd see some different results.
Right, but good coaching is about putting people in position to be successful.
So far this coaching staff has taken what they have and given it a scheme with which it can be successful. Moreover, the players have to execute. And this team (especially the o-line) has had the best combination of better than we thought talent, great coaching, and very solid play from all parts (QB, skill players, and the line).
If we were built for a power running game, or deep passing game like Philly, we'd probably do that -- but it would be down right stupid to try and do that if you don't have the personnel for it. And, it is silly to evaluate it against those criteria, that's not who we are.
The point: There are many ways to skin a cat, we've chosen the one that fits our tools. And its working quite nicely.

I must say that even though our defense couldn't stop the Little Sisters of the Poor without a turnover and Chan's play calling has me scratching my head sometimes, I am very proud of what this team has been able to accomplish. They are playing very hard and making big plays at critical times.
Although the stats maybe didn't show it, I thought the defensive coaching was much more aggressive this week. We finally put 6-8 up on the line of scrimmage and BLITZED!
I am sure that this helped with the five turnovers. This defense cannot sit back with 4 guys up on the line and the LB's 4 yds behind them. It was nice to see some attacking going on with the D.
On to New Jersey.
yes, I totally agree, aggressive is good, keep it up

We threw everything short because that is how you beat the Eagles ... a bad offensive line is not part of a team that is regularly putting up more than 25 points a game.
Time to recognize that we have a solid starting five with two strong back ups.
that make no sense at all ????

Kyle aggravated a nagging ankle injury in the 3rd quarter and will probably be out til after the bye. However as I was told today in the shout box Williams is invisible out there anyways so losing a Pro Bowl NT doesnt mean much
I saw him on one play late in the 2nd quarter where he pushed the Eagles center straight back 10 yards . . . Vick got rid of the ball, but he must have been a bit un-nerved seeing his center coming straight at him aaa$$$$$$ backwards at a high rate of speed.
Hopefully he's not out, but if so, Heard will need to step up.

Smith was picked off the Patriots practice squad, or he was cut by them.

What I noticed on the Iggles FG drive was an Iggles lineman had a full grip on a Bill's jersey... stretching and all, but not penalty even though it was a big play. But the very next 2 plays had holding calls. Almost as if the officials realized it was getting out of hand (so to speak). Then, just to be sure, they called a hold on the Bills' first play of the subsequent series.
I think that is a very accurate observation

Time for Aiken to set up, he looked as good as anyone in preseason - it's his time now.

I say give me a tryout, see if still has any gas

The bills passing offense is all about quick passes. Play action passing tends to slow down the play, so I don't anticipate the bills using it very often.
that!
understand what's going on fellows--but every once in a while might be OK

I thought Corey Mcintyre was crushing his blocks today, Truly an unsung hero.
I think he does that every week, very underrated by the general public, but I'm confident not by Fred and Fitz
-
Surpised its Batten, I thought Carrington would be the next up . . . oh well, for Batten, its time to sieze the opportunity.
Can you say "Wally Pipp" Chris Kelsey?
-
Perry Fewell was a better D coach . . . at least he was aggressive, the defense has regressed under the current coaches and system. I say, if we get run (and thrown) all over again this week, time to make one of your courageous moves Chan - fire Edwards, give Wanny the job!

I'm boycotting ESPN until they bring Charlie Daniels back....I'll DVR Monday Night Football just to get a list of sponsors...I'll notify the sponsors that I'll not use their products as long as the advertise on MNF until Charlie Daniels is back!!!
Well, I'm boycotting them too, until they bring back Willie Nelson!!! Period nothing ESPN until I see Waylon and WIllie croning "Luckenbach Texas" again.

He may be athletically gifted, but he's a freaking dumbass. He was a dumbass when he ran the ball out of the endzone and he's a dumbass now.
What was his wonder lick score? Troy State ain't in the Ivy League.

First half defense = Awesome
Second half defense = Embarrassing
Exactly!

After watching these 4 games, It seems to me ,we still need 2 athletic outside backers,A. Davis replaced and a cover corner. Davis seems to never do much and Merrimen seems to never turn the corner on a pass rush. Mc Kelvin get picked on game after game. Speed ,coverage skills seem lost. Although lack of a pass rush as we know makes any secondary look bad. The Offense hopefully just had a flat game.Did you notice the Bengals corners up in our receivers face ? Fitz looked a little timid against the Bengals pass rush. Also all the bad deep throws on 3rd down. This is one down we needed to dink and dunk. Tough ,Tough game coming up .If Dalton can run on us ,what do you think Vick will do . Must win game for the Eagles ,will make a very physical game this week .Lets go Buffaloooo. Nut up.
"If Dalton can run on us ,what do you think Vick will do" . . . that really is the scary part coming into this weekends game. It will be up to the defense to figure out a way to contain him.
-
the point is it was called a catch and this guy came in from 25 yards away to over rule it...It has to be very obvious for you to do that, or you just can't make that call. They did too much wrong to get away with the win -but that call still makes me sick to my stomach
Indeed, that is the point. In the words of Marv Levy, an "over-officious jerk" of a call---dude, unless its very obvious, how can you overrule a call from several yards away?
Anyhow, its not why we lost, but we could have been bailed out had the bills scored even a field goal on that drive.
-
5. I sit here and hope and pray the Merriman experiment works out but honestly (and it kind of kills me to say it) Kelsey is out playing him and is getting more contain and pressure. Shawn is an upgrade over what was there last year no doubt but I wonder when they run right at him and Edwards. Oh and I like Spenser Johnson better than Dwan this year, he seems much more hungry. A Davis is still better than people give him credit for too. Today at least, Barnett had trouble getting off blocks in the middle of the field too, Kyle too. That Cinnci Oline is stout and that really helps the rookie.
I'm with you on this. I think we are hoping that Merriman gets back somewhere close to his former self, but so far, not so much.
I think its time to get Moats and Batton on the field, both have shown glimpses of promise, and I think its time to see what they can really do. Can it be any worse then the veteran guys in front of them?
-
I think Wade is doing just fine, I doubt he has any need or interest in returning to Buffalo.
-
Its a long season, and there is a lot of chess moves in the course of a season. Cincinnati didn't send extra rusher and dropped more people in coverage, especially against the short routes. The Bills needed to respond by hitting the longer routes, and a combination of inconsistency by Fitz on deep throws, receivers that don't have separation speed, and recievers who didn't make any big catches when needed, led to the demise.
However, the real issue with them is the ability of teams to rack up yards.
Although much blame should be placed on the secondary, I think some kind of pass rush, including this thing they call "a blitz," would help them. When a NFL QB has time, even a rookie, they will eventually find the open guy--and there will always be one open given enough running around time.
One way or another, the Bills have to figure out how to generate a pass rush!
The one lesson we have learned from the first four games, although improved, the front 3 or 4, are not capable of doing it alone. So the scheme has to change. Do something, figure out some way of putting at least a threat on the QB.That will help the secondary, which as we've seen, needs all the help it can get.
