  1. What should have happened on the (essentially season-ending) hit by Adrian Wilson? He was never picked-up by anyone. He was out there drooling all day, and yet it unfolded like a rabbit walking into a wolf's mouth. Should Edwards have checked out? Called a time out? Should the RB or Walker made an adjustment? What? ...or was it simply an act of god, like a hurricane?
  2. 20.5/38 = 54%, which doesn't seem so out of kilter, since most teams bring their top sacker from their left side.
  3. Sounds to me like you've yet to figure out that Frewell plays an old school version of the Tampa 2 scheme, which relies on zone coverage involving the 3 LBs, CBs and safeties. Every team in the league routinely uses the cover 2 (in sure passing situations), which merely refers to the relative responsibilities of the CBs and safeties. The Bills practically never leave a CB on an island in sustained single coverage (since Clements left). In fact, the CBs even play about 8 yards off the line at the snap. How many CB blitzs did the Bills record since Frewell took over? How many CB stuffs? It's been a very long time since the days of watching Antoine Winfield work his magic at the line.
  4. Excellent points, well made. I just think Dick doesn't really believe in delegating authority, even when he's out of his element (offensive football). Non sequitor: Didn't you love Buddy Ryan going off on Kevin Gilbride?
  5. Edwards/Schonert came out the 2008 gate like gunslingers. They exited like TD-free mice. Anybody doubt that was Jauron's thumb? Personally, I think Adrian Wilson also had an affect.
  6. Actually, my dear friend, that statement is 100% wrong. So, how about telling us about how fierce the Bills front seven is...
  7. owww, snap Brilliant play on letters. Let me guess: You're a master Scrabble player..,.
  8. I am really having a lot of trouble envisioning a Jauron team using the no-huddle offense. He barely tolerates having a conventional offense. The no-huddle begs for a 3-and-out series if a play doesn't click. The Bills defense probably cannot survive too many appearances on the turf. The front seven is not a force by any stretch of the imagination. McGee is OK, but Greer is going to be sorely missed. Leodis is an exceptional athlete, but both he, and especially Drayton Florence tend to leg whip themselves to the turf when confronted with a double move. Youboty is problematic, since he cannot seem to stay healthy. This fact alone will keep a safety out of the box, and keep the LBs back on their heels thinking about their duties in the zone coverage scheme of the Tampa 2. Question: If the Bills try the no-huddle at all, how long before Dick puts it back on the shelf?
  9. Can I start fearing you guys tonight, or should I wait until Wednesday morning?
  10. Wow! You got me there Sherlock, and I cannot deny it one bit. By adding the word "contender" I attempted to fool everybody and completely reverse my position THAT THE BILLS ONLY HAVE THREE GOOD PLAYERS on their front seven. Not even trying to hedge my meaning by giving my thread the title, "Bills front 7: The 1-2 scheme" can fool anybody now that I have been caught using a superfluous word in a later comment. Thanks for straightening me out. From now on I will never use any words in subsequent posts that I didn't use in previous posts.
  11. Well, somebody said that they didn't understand my point. If trying to clarify what someone said they failed to understand is arguing with yourself, then, you're right, I'm arguing with myself.
  12. I thought I made it clear at the outset that of the front 7, four guys are probably going to be frequently taken to school by their opponents when the Bills play contenders. Three (Stroud, Posluszny and Mitchell) were going to frequently hold their own, or prevail. To clarify the question (namely: How is that going to work?), I meant that it's going to be tough for the Bills to defend against the quality opponents. I welcome differing opinions, and don't really understand that you don't understand that part of reality is identifying and fixing weaknesses. If you're arguing that Kelsay, Williams, Johnson, Ellis, McCargo, Schobel (he might come back pretty tough ?), Ellison, DiGiorgio and the rest of the front 7 rotation are going to win a lot of match ups, I just have to differ. When the Bills play contenders, those guys are going to be over matched frequently. Frankly, I haven't the slightest idea about how Maybin will fare this year. He could be a young Jevon Kearse or he could be another Chris Ellis.
  13. Didn't read in the TOS that you had to be a complete homie to discuss Bills football here. There are things I like about the Bills, and things that I find very lacking. Anyone who is thrilled with a team that hasn't made the playoffs in ten seasons is way beyond a fan. For your benefit: I really very much like... -the running backs (Bong, Fred and Dominic) -McGee (I liked Greer, but...) -Lee Evans and Owens -Moorman and Lindell, but they had an off year (for them) -McKelvin and Parrish as returners -Stroud -given half a chance, I'd also like to like Trent...
  14. What I said was simply that only Stroud, and maybe Poslusny and Mitchell would start for a contender. I said nothing about the other four being "bums, bad athletes, or slackers." Personally I think the Kyle Williams plays way over his natural physical abilities. Kelsay would not start for any contender. Schobel may/or may not come back to his ancient form, but I don't think he's a certainty by any means. Do we need to get down to the bottom of the barrel and bring McCargo and Spencer Johnson into the discussion?
  15. Of the front four, only Marcus Stroud is an NFL starter, and he's as old as Methuselah. Posluszny and Mitchell might start for quite a few teams, but Ellison...no way. How is that gonna work?
  16. That's probably relevant somewhere in the universe...
  17. I believe Randy Moss got way more "Terrell Owens" than TO, and which other team tried to pick up Seau's contract besides the Patriots? If you don't think turning Randy Moss into a team player who adjusts his contract demands to benefit the Patriots team is making pieces fit, I doubt I can help... Ist: demonized by the Raider organization 2nd: sets every record with the Patriots
  18. Why don't we all hold our breath and turn blue until 7:00 PM on 9/14? The human mind is curious, creative and wants to know.
  19. Nice work! Belichick is an acknowledge master in "making the pieces fit together". He takes cast offs like Junior Seau and Randy Moss, and melds them into contenders. On the other hand, the Bills have DICK.
  20. Do the names John Guy and Tom Modrak ring any bells?
  21. Love the Bobby J avatar. Give me two packs of Camels and a 28 lotery tickets..... Personally, I rate Langston as a playoff contender RT, but just barely, if supported. I don't think there's any chance that Butler or Chambers start on a playoff contender. As for Hangartner, Wood and Levitre, they could be anything from Tutan Reyes to Mike Gandy, until proven otherwise. If I don't like my present car, I don't blow it up until I've acquired a better car.
  22. This here Kool Aid is pretty damned strong...
  23. Spoken like in a Chris Farley motivational speech! Bring on the psychologists!
  24. OK, so are you saying that mixing the 2008 Bills "receiving corps" with with a healthy Tom Brady instead of the Two Headed Monster (Edwards/Losman) produces 4 TDs (for the Bills, presumably) in the first quarter against Belichick's defense?
  25. ...and like Brett Favre. Hypothetically then, have today's Tom Brady throwing to the 2008 Bills "receivers": Do the Bills beat the Patriots 56-10, like in 2007? Does Brady throw 4 TD passes to Lee Evans in the first half?
