  1. I think he deserves to get paid, especially if he continues to play like he has been doing, both at the back end of last season, and the start of this. I wouldn't like to speculate on the amount he should get, but I think (if he continues playing like he has) I would be happy to offer him around $8 million per.

I would also say that getting him done before  next year, frees up draft options, with CB being a possibility for our top tick.

  2. Allen definitely isn’t firing on all cylinders. I have a few areas of concern there. Not least of which is that I don’t see him scanning the field as well as he was last year.

in fairness, both the ‘Fins and the Steelers have good secondaries, so there’s some mitigation there - there haven’t been so many opportunities, with more than one guy open.

I will also question the O-Line play, and the play calling ( more so against the Steelers).

Regardless, the job got well done at the end of the day, yesterday, and the Defense is looking very promising - they were simply on fire yesterday.

All said and done, onwards and upwards to the WTF are they going to call themselves team 😀

Huh. Maybe it depends on what country you use through your VPN.

I have used the Netherlands as my country of choice for NFL Gamepass all these years, and I have never NOT been able to watch any game live. Not once.

    Strange.

Sounds like a good choice. Maybe they simply don't show NFL games there at all?

In the UK, we cannot view live, games being shown by the NFL's partner broadcaster, which is Sky Sports. You can watch them as soon as the game is finished. For example, iirc, The Bills have 4 'primetime' games so far this coming season, and I won't be able to watch those live through Gamepass. As I have a subscription to Sky Sports, I'll still be able to watch them live (that subscription covers me for a lot of other sport I'll watch, from 'soccer' to cricket and F1), but if I didn't, I would only be able to watch them straight after the game has finished.

I would still recommend Gamepass as the way to go, and probably as you do, through a VPN of a European country. Seems like the Netherlands would be a good choice, if you get to watch all of the games live. The UK wouldn't be for the reasons outlined above, and I would guess a couple of other countries, perhaps Germany and Spain for example, where there is likely a decent following still as a result of the failed NFLE experiment.

I don’t know the reasoning or mechanics of it, but the EU version of Gamepass absolutely allows you to view all games live, as they happen.

Not entirely true, as it will prevent you watching a game being broadcast by a ‘partner’ in the country you sign up in. The Bills will be more likely to be shown than previously. In the UK last year, we ended up with a bunch of games not being broadcast live, due to this. As I have a deal with the ‘partner’, it didn’t affect me, but it might have.

Having said that, most of those games were ‘Primetime’ games, so you could probably have got them anywhere in the US.

Why is the UK so different right now? I don't have an answer. Just strange.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

Those are the latest government figures for the UK.

Johnson etc. are taking a gamble, and it's based off of a couple of things. Firstly that the link between deaths and hospitalizations is in the process of being highly reduced by vaccinations, and also, that those who are getting infected with the latest variant, are very largely, the unvaccinated.

In essense, between a high percentage of people being fully vaccinated, and the increase in those who are getting covid being the unvaccinated, I believe they are thinking that we might get to some form of herd immunity, within the next month or so.

The big gamble is that hospitalizations and deaths, don't increase suddenly, because the Health Service is unlikely to be able to cope.

The reason why the UK has so many cases now, is the result of the arrival of the delta variant, just as we entered an easing of restrictions, and any track and trace systems we use, are hopeless. On the one hand, it can be said that what's occurring now is the end result of simple bad timing, on the other, the useless track and trace and quarantine rules (for entering the country) haven't done anything to mitigate the spread.

Currently, the 'way forward' is simply to get as many people as possible, vaccinated, and that is about the only method we have that can now be successful, i.e. herd immunity.

  6. Game Pass works pretty well with a half decent 'net connection. The only caveat will be if games are being shown by a 'local' broadcaster. In the UK, for example, this would be Sky Sports, and last year there were a lot of Bills games broadcast. That means you need a subscription to Sky Sports to watch those games live - which I have anyway for Soccer and Cricket, so that didn't affect me. You will still be able to stream the game(s) after they have finished though, and you can watch them with a variety of options, including just the plays - i.e. the hour of actual play - once they have finished.

  7. Keep it open, but perhaps be a bit more rigid in keeping things on track. While I didn't read the whole thread on Beasley,  I did read a lot of it, and there seemed to be too much arguing about points that weren't actually relevant, especially about his right to refuse to be vaccinated, when hardly anyone was saying that.

There are very likely going to be changes and clarifications to the 'protocols' both around the time of TC, and for when games start (both pre and actual season).

Whether or not people like it, Im convinced that not only will there be protocols in place, but they will need to be adhered to.

The latest variant, gets around very quickly, more so than others have, and it's having a big effect in the UK, with a rapid rise in cases, that have lead to a 'full' end to lockdown being shelved for a further month, at least. We were actually supposed to be out of a lockdown situation today, but it's not going to be for another month now. This is to get a larger proportion of the population vaccinated, as the vast majority of new cases have been from amongst those who haven't been vaccinated, especially younger age groups (18 -30).

The above is given as an example of why I think there will not only still be protocols, but also why they will be being nforced, by both the NFLPA, and the NFL.

I have to disagree with that last.  I think it's something the Bills as a team have all agreed on.

In which case, the team as a whole are copping out.

Irrespective of anything else, it is going to become a distraction.

Sometimes, the way you try and deal with an issue, doesn’t work as you wanted it to.

I can see this being the case here.

  9. I would expect them to go if possible.

While there are lots of pros and cons for both ways, I think the bottom line, especially for this coming season, will be how important it will be to re-engage with the fans.

Because of that, I also think the players themselves will be happy to go there this year.

Iirc, McBeane have already reduced some, the time they are there, yet were still quite liking the team building aspect of it. I think they would still seriously consider doing it in the future, as it can be an important part of the team culture.

  10. Good luck to him.

The Bills FO setup is one of the better set up ones around the NFL - the Pegulas have spent well on those guys.

As Gaine returned - we already have a replacement to go.

Tbh, I would like Gaine to be given the role, as he most definitely got a very short straw in Houston, and it will do his profile no harm at all with our projected continuous success.

You never want to lose good people, but the Bills FO has plenty of qualified replacements already in place.

The interesting thing will be how they shuffle the jobs around, and if they actually bring another guy in for a lesser position, as I'm sure the post will be filled by an internal promotion.

  11. My impression of this draft, is generally 'solid' - in more ways than one. ;)

From looking around at a few 'big boards', I thought that we might struggle to find an obvious 'upgrade' at the #30. seemed like there was going to be a bunch of O-Line guys available around there, and while the line isn't perfect, we don't have immediate needs there.

The one guy who did intrigue me as a possible pick there, was Rousseau, as I could see where due to not playing last year, he might be available. I thought he was the only DE who could be there at the pick, out of the few that I had seen small write ups on.

I think the Bills lucked out a bit there. I also believe he was probably a guy they were thinking of when Beane referenced getting guys who they can develop.

I think they got lucky again with the Boogie pick, with value aligning with need nicely there.

Between those two, Epenesa, and also the kid we signed as a FA, I do feel we have made an improvement to our pass rush. Maybe not by a huge amount immediately, but I think going forward, we could well have a lot more success in getting to passers.

Rousseau's athleticism and sheer length, could quickly become an asset in the disruption of the more mobile QBs, who might well find they have to move further to get out of range of those big mitts.

This was a pretty good draft class of O-Line men supposedly, so it shouldn't be a surprise we got some. What was a surprise was how big and athletic they were. Lots of potential there, down the road. It certainly feels good to think that while we already have two good tackles in place and locked up for a few years, we hopefully will have guys primed to either come in, or replace them, as and when.

A couple of DBs, a speedy WR who is expected to get return duties, and that was a wrap.

I trust McDermott and DB evaluation. He seems to have a knack of finding traits in lower round guys, or udfa's, that he can develop.

Tbh, I really didn't know what to expect from this draft. I wouldn't have been unhappy if they had found another CB @ the #30. With Tre inked, if you want to take another CB high, then around now is the time to do it. I don't think you ever pay two CBs the big bucks though.

I would not have had a problem with either Harris or Etienne being added, if they had fallen. Harris is an every down back, and Etienne does have the speed to take it to the house. Thing is, in signing Brieda, Beane kept his options open, and was once again, able to 'go with the flow'.

I think it's easy to be critical about how much we might have improved with this draft, and if I'm totally honest, I don't think it is by loads immediately. I do think what they've done, is good for the future sustained success we all want to see.

At the end of the day, we need to remember, that the Bills at the moment, are a very good football team, and from that starting point, it isn't so easy to make big steps.

For those thinking that lots of other possible rivals have made big steps forward, well the short answer to that, is that they need to, to get to where the Bills are currently operating, and their jury is still very much out.

  12. The only way you don't pick up the option, is if you intend to extend his deal now, and his agent etc. are made aware of that. That way there can be no feelings hurt, even theoretically. ;)

People are talking about Allen's extension being done through this off-season, well it may be that they do Edmunds as well. Or they get Edmunds done but not Allen, because the financial situation plays out that way.

  13. I chose 'other', mainly because so much depends on what players you have playing a particular scheme.

By the end of that last year Schwartz was here, his D was probably the best all round in the NFL - but he had the right players for it.

McDermotts version of a 4-3 is generally pretty solid, and when you don't necessarily have to pay all your CBs as much, is probably the way forward in today's NFL.

  14. I wouldn't do it in a hurry, and as others have pointed out, I'm not sure there's a generational talent going to be available @ 10.

I would also say that while values may on the surface look similar, you are still talking about 3 spots lower than where we traded out to - and I think that would end up costing us more in terms of picks.

Tbh, I think we would be better served by trading the pick for an established guy - like we did with Diggs - not that there's anyone on my radar that could be worth that sort of thing.

  15. If for one moment, it could be believed that the NFLPA had genuine concerns for the players safety, then I would say 'fair enough'.

As ever, this is all about the benjamins.

The NFLPA were happy enough under possibly worse circumstances, to play a full NFL season, because players were getting paid for the games.

Anything that could be construed as 'gratis', even though it would probably be to their own benefit in respect of performing to their best, is simply not something the NFLPA can bring itself to condone.

It's ironic really, as the reality is probably that with the amount of knuckleheads in the NFL, there is probably a majority, who would be safer, actually at their teams facilities.

Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of the amount of proscriptions that cover practises, camps etc.

There can't be too many jobs that you don't improve by actually not doing the job ( an exception needs to be made for 'suicide bomber').

I'm not talking about contact drills here, either, but walkthroughs, technique refining etc. that the NFLPA doesn't want players doing.

  16. I was looking at Gil Brandt's 100 best prospects the other day, and was struck by how many O-Line guys were around the #30 pick.

I think we are going to have to hope a couple of guys slide, and I'm not too optimistic about that, as he's got pretty much all the usual suspects at QB comfortably in that top 30.

It may be that our best use of the pick, will be to trade down, for an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder this year, as our 'needs' will be better aligned with value then.

The one caveat to that, is quite possibly if there's a RB we want still available, as I think other positions we would be considering, e.g. DE, LB, CB, aren't really going to be the value at the pick.

Maybe But Williams would have by all accounts, Milano may have (I don’t think he would have but may have). McKenzie would have turned 8 teams down.  Feliciano may have and was on record not wanting to play elsewhere so logical to think left money on table.

then the Pays cuts from Morse (his center) Addison. It will be interesting to see if Allen Does.

32M per year still sets family for generations and leaves good money on table for good players.

But there are likely two main reasons why they want to stay - Allen and the team 'culture'.

Now that there's a rookie cap, players aren't going to be too keen on giving 'discounts' to their first earned contract - no matter who they are.

Allen needs to be paid pretty much market value, simply because he's one of the best young QBs out there, with the potential to be the best, full stop.

Now, where he will probably help the Bills out, is by not getting too hung up on getting every last cent out of them, and also in how the deal is structured, both now and in the future.

  18. I don't think Allen will be haggling over every last cent.

In that respect I think the negotiations will ultimately be done civily.

I do think he will be getting handsomely paid in line with the top QBs.

I also think that he will allow a structure to the deal that helps the Bills, not only now, but in the future.

For those considerations, I think he will be getting some serious amounts of guaranteed money.

Rather than wondering how much per year he will be getting, tbh, I'm much more interested in how long the deal will be for.

And I think the length of contract might define a lot of the numbers.

You can easily make an argument for a long deal (say 10 years) at $40+ million per, because by the end of it, he will be relatively cheap.

I guess I should have quoted the highlight reel someone posted earlier in the thread. He made a couple of good catches in there.

I know, I know - YouTube scouting. But still...

Thing is, those highlights are from the actual NFL, not from college, where his sort of speed could look ridiculous.

NFL highlight reel = what he can do as opposed to college highlight reel = what he might be able to do in the NFL. ;)

What makes u think he's a receiving threat? Not being a jerk I'm just wondering why.

There's a 49ers highlight reel of him, and he does make a couple of TD catches - and from in the Red Zone, so it isn't just a screen pass to the house deal.

  21. TBH, I think this is a signing they might have made even if they had got a 'name' pass rusher - e.g. JJ Watt.

They obviously have knowledge of the guy, particularly from our D-Line coach, who would have known all about him from his time in Carolina.

He's got some good physical attributes, as others have shown, and he also can play across the line.

I wouldn't peg him as a starter, but his versatility will see him get into the rotation, and he's a guy it looks like they can use in different ways, when they want to change things up.

I can easily see him being used on inside stunts, for example.

If he gives us 5.5 sacks at the money, he's a bargain.

I also think that there's still room for improvement, both from him, and at the position, but sometimes, small improvements, if there are enough of them, can make a significant difference.

  22. While I think it's fair to say we could do with more speed in the RB group, where a lack of speed hurt us most, was on D.

The Bills just fielded one of the most potent offenses they have ever had, and have managed to bring back/keep together, all of the most critical pieces, and some aren't happy about it. Lmao.

For sure, there are improvements that can be made - and the addition of Sanders, imho, is one - but don't forget the old adage 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
