1. Just my opinion, but what was needed here was DW to reassure and smooth the waters by presenting the message that the Bills house is in order and they are on (or getting on) the same page. Everyone knows RR was fired. Everyone ought to know that it was an "organizational decision". Instead his answers admitted cluelessness and like he has the authority of a spectator filling a seat behind a desk with a "GM" sign on it.
2. He reports directly to ownership. Of course he should know why Rex was fired. In his position he requires the retrospective and alignment with his bosses so as not to repeat the same failures. From what he said, he has no idea what happened and no interest in finding out. He's either being dishonest (as Sully tweeted) or this organization has a very serious leadership problem.
3. Straw-man much? I don't really care what he says today. Excuses and justifications don't matter. I want to see what he does.
4. The players on the Bills, at least in most organizations, had something to play for too. In a word: jobs. As an NFL player it is never a good idea to leave your skidmarks all over the game film. Scouts actually look at all of it.
5. What accusation? Do you mean from the linked article? Where does it say that "Whaley did nothing" precisely? Not that it will matter, but I think the article is clearly written from a retrospective viewpoint, which makes sense since it was written after the last game of the season. That is, it's Sullivan's take on what actually transpired in 2016, rather than a regurgitation of what the outlook for the season was back in July. Unfortunately, that last game looked and smelled exactly like a giant turd.
6. I agree that it isn't fair to judge this last draft class at this point. It could turn out to be a decent draft still. OTOH, the line from Sullivan's article was qualified. Paraphrasing: this past draft failed to provide Rex Ryan with much of anything in his final season as Bills head coach on the field. There isn't really any argument to be had there. This last draft was a list of injuries that provided little value in its first year. There was also the line about Whaley and building the team through the draft, which can be argued. While Tim Graham pointed out the team has the fewest number of its own draft picks, etc., it can be argued that isn't all on Whaley. Personally, I do think Rex Ryan had a big say in going after a number of free agents and veterans in his own efforts to transform the roster. Perhaps it is ironic but given how short the hook is and the effort by some holdovers, it might have served RR better if they had been able to purge more holdovers and bring in even more free agents.
7. Nope. Google is good for finding stuff. (I read that the occupiers of Malheur NWR got a bunch of these drop shipped during the standoff by anonymous donors.)
8. I think there are better words, less absolute and personal, that are more applicable. Some may be feeling: disinterested, disappointed, frustrated, unimpressed. Or even: hopeful, thrilled that he keeps pro sports in town. Some may even have all of those feelings at the same time.
9. If Whaley gets this for tomorrow's presser, maybe he can share. https://www.amazon.com/Passion-Lubes-Natural-Water-Based-Lubricant/dp/B005MR3IVO?th=1
10. OK, fine. I meant it like this: When you put two idiots in a paper bag, you got two idiots in a paper bag. If one idiot falls out of the bag, you're still holding a bag with an idiot.
11. BTW, Rex is gone. Can't blame him for not caring about fielding a kickoff...
12. Does this mean this year was like year 0 or year -4 or something?
13. "What do you plan to do next after football?" comes to mind. <shrug>
14. He might want to order this: https://www.amazon.com/Passion-Lubes-Natural-Water-Based-Lubricant/dp/B005MR3IVO?th=1
15. The kickoff !@#$-up is quite emblematic of this team and this season. Hopefully, Pegullible seeks some outside advice on how to move forward.
16. EJM is sort of a 0. Multiplication doesn't really move the needle.
17. I get the jones-ing for Cardell, but... What if Lynn knows something here and EJM actually is better than Jones? Ugh.
18. Maybe not a complete overhaul, but wasn't the bitching by the players that Rex made it too complicated? Seems like "dumbing it down" and reducing things for a week is exceedingly possible. Whatever the coaches did or didn't do, the defensive players still can't make plays. Shredded by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Oh boy.
