not the same as you killing a hawk.  Cool vid of a donkey guarding a chicken:

Things that happen in the country happen in the country with regard to what people do and how they protect their interests. It sucks that city slickers think they know what's best.

you could have a big problem:  The Migratory Bird Treaty Act and state laws make it illegal to kill, capture, possess (actual bird or parts of, including feathers), harass, or harm any bird of prey. Violations are punishable by fines of $5,000 to $250,000 or more, jail sentences, confiscation of possessions, and revocation of licenses.

i worded my statement correctly. also, smart farmers don't directly engage birds of prey. they use other guardian animals to do it for them: donkeys, dogs, and cats.

So I can live with all but coyotes.  I don't have an interest in avidly protecting the others except hawks which are way cool...unless you're raising rabbits.  Oh, and dogs...

Red tail hawks kill chickens, ewes, kids, and other small animals. They're among the worst because they come in quick and devour as much as they can in 30 seconds or less, sometimes the animal is still alive before they leave it. They don't stay long because they're smaller and more likely to be attacked. Hawks and eagles will small livestock at will.

Crows and vultures will also attack dormant animals; fresh calves, kids, ewes, foals, and others that maybe weak rising up

I have no problem killing animals that pose a threat but haven't killed a dog in 10+ years.

Geez that's f'in miserable.   As I said, I don't know anyone who has shot a dog or at least admitted to it...I bet these folks wouldn't have shot that dog but I suppose you think they're soft hearted.  http://www.nationalgwprescue.com

You make a livelihood with animals and dogs attack your livestock... What do you do? Animal control won't take dogs, bother setting up to get them or anything.

You live in a rural area and have small kids and family outside and dogs are seen wandering and being aggressive? What do you do?

You jump to conclusions thinking I am soft hearted. But many no kill shelters are not so great.

Miserable is realizing that you are sitting there letting animals take a buffet of animals you're supposed to protect. Miserable is saying that nature just made it so and therefore the foxes, coyotes, dogs, hawks, and racoons have to survive.

I'm not proud of any animal I've put down for purposes beyond food usage and there have been many.

I mean, it tracks.  You're a liberal so grasping that there are hard choices to make in life is not an easy thing to do when you let others do it for you.

Pigs are like a 3 yr old but would kill you and eat you at the drop of hat. Boar goats will kill you for nothing, just ram you over and over, trampling you in the way. Donkeys and horses will only kick you in defense or startled, for the most part. Bulls can get angry and charge after you but it's more like you being pissed at a mini poodle and doing anything more than pushing it away. The bull doesn't care about you unless you make it. Alpacas and llama are mean as *****. Ostrich and emus are very deadly. Cassowaries are extremely dangerous.  Roosters will ***** you up because they're mean, stupid or both.

Well when it’s what you eat for dinner that’s a  whole different story. Some cultures do that.

Exactly. People are so quick to defend her they don’t get this. And now we are supposed to believe the dog was attacking everyone? Right!

It's no different than cows, chickens, pigs, or such. Pigs are smarter than dogs, too. Donkeys are arguably smarter, too.

True. If you don't have ambitions beyond South Dakota.

She just leaped ahead of the "I castrated hogs with my own teeth" Gov of Iowa.

Right, and sadly people from such great states as NY, CA, and all of the coastal parts of NE have had their mind blown.

I bet if you went to the middle of Nebraska and announced that when you left your $3.4mm penthouse in NYC there was a homeless man taking a ***** in the sidewalk they'd think it was just as insane as someone euthanizing a feral dog.

I mean, seriously? Hundreds of dogs are euthanized every minute across the country but this 1 dog... Because Noem is (probably?) a Republican it is an issue?

My God the mind virus that is the human brain of the American people is so weird.

All I know is she desperately needs a new PR person. Maybe it's all Corey's fault.

Really, you try to distract people from the extramarital affair story by releasing a story about how you shot your dog?  Distraction complete I guess. Maybe this was more about Corey throwing her under the bus so he can go back to doing his Trump work.

she only has to resonate with her community. in my community i would bet more people have shot a dog than not shot a dog. and most of them have shot more than 1. some in the dozens.

But I’m thankful for the hand wringing over this because she would have been an awful (and likely) VP pick for Trump without it.

when you're on a farm you learn two ways to do it...and neither is fun. that's all i'm going to say.

Yes.  The whole enchilada.  I can see responding in a couple different ways:

    • If its kids messing around, a crooked finger, a stern though theatrically enhanced word about responsibility and respect, and hopefully that solves it.  It has, several times over the past couple decades.  A group of boys (with an overmatched mother trying to control them) spitting on car windows.  Sent 'em home to get a bucket and wash the spit off.  Older kids using their skateboards on a metal railing and scratching the heck out of it.  Explained the cost to repair the damage they caused, asked them not to do it again.
    • Older kids messing around and stealing the flag for kicks--probably a harsher tone, a little less theatrics involved, an acknowledgement that I wouldn't call the cops this time.
    • Dopey activists sending me a message about whatever bothers them on any given day, I'd call the police.  This has not happened to me.

Sidebar, my experience generally is that many, many otherwise smart and decent people have very little respect for the property of others.  I can provide a dozen+ different stories about my experience, which likely mirrors the experiences of others who own commercial property.   I think that translates on  a certain level as to why some of these people are quick to get caught up in 'activism' because they don't care enough to think beyond the end of their nose.

    Wow.

Alright so now I understand. I wasn't sure if you met flying a flag at a place of employment that was not managed by you. Then you'd not have a choice. But if you own the property and manage the business it is 100% on your and you may do whatever you like imo

Agreed, and I guess the question of what to do when someone is not respectful of the choices made by others.  If, for example, I choose to fly a flag at my office, when someone takes it down, what recourse is available?  That's a matter for the police, I would think.

It is at your office the matter is for the business of said company's office.

If there’s this many comp picks being given and to this many teams, they should just get rid of them. Seems like it would be a wash.

16 teams, half of the league got a comp pick.

LAR & SF both got 5 picks.

  15. Out of curiousity I looked up all of the comp picks in the 2024 draft.

    4th round
    133. Chiefs (via Buf): Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State
    134. Jets (via Bal): Braelon Allen, RB, Wisconsin

    5th round

    214. Bengals: Cedric Johnson, EDGE, Ole Miss
    215. 49ers: Jarrett Kingston, OG, USC
    216. Cowboys: Ryan Flournoy, WR, SE Missouri State
    217. Rams: Beaux Limmer, C, Arkansas
    218. Ravens (via NYJ: Devin Leary, QB, Kentucky
    219. Bills (via GB): Daequan Hardy, CB, Penn State
    220. Buccaneers: Elijah Klein, OG, UTEP

    7th Round
    253. Chargers: Cornelius Johnson, WR, Michigan
    254. Rams: KT Leveston, OG, Penn State
    255. Packers: Kalen King, CB, Penn State
    256. Broncos (via NYJ): Nick Gargiulo, C, South Carolina
    257. Jets: Jaylen Key, S, Alabama

By my math that is 38 Comp picks and 13 of them traded; 1/3 of comp picks were traded. It will be interesting to see who, if any, of these players have a successful career.
