  1. Great link. He owned Trufant. He has the size we need at WR, and seems to have Larry Fitzgerald type hands where he catches anything within his reach. He should make the team. I'm thinking our WR's are: SJ, Woods, Rogers, Goodwin, Graham, Kaufman. Easley on Practise squad. Imagine lining 5 of those guys up 5 wide, Spiller or Freddie in the backfield, and having to account for Chandler as well.

Can Easley go to the practice squad?

  2.

Enquiring minds want to know here. Unless she's "never never ever" getting back together with jboyst, or he's worried about what kind of pancakes she'll make him.

When I first read this thread title I thought it was gonna be about Da'Rick's prior bad habits that got him booted from 1st round prospect to UDFA, and perhaps he'd been spotted cultivating bad company in B'lo. Worrying about a UDFA in rookie minicamp?

    Seriously?

    C'mon man.

    Sarcasm?

  3.

I guess it depends how intriguing. James Hardy level? Ultimately you have to trust the coach and his coordinators, it's hard for fans to gauge rookies in their 1st camp. But if Smith beats out that rookie in camp and earns a spot over him, so be it.

Intriguing like Marcus Easley, who for the better part of 3 years has done nothing. I remember how intrigued bills fans were with him and yet he couldn't beat out Smith when the WR core was decimated last year... Intriguing to me, can be a waste of a roster spot.

First I'd like to remind everyone that this thread is about possible Cap casualties.

Not Easley, obviously not Hardy. How about Kaufman?

  4.

Well, if you're trying to say his production over the last 3 years isn't worth what we're paying him, you'll get no argument out of me. The question is, was it his fault or was he used incorrectly? I think it's a combination of both, and I think a new offensive-minded coach like Marrone who wants to feature an up-tempo west coast offense has to be intrigued. Like others in the thread have said, we aren't desperate to create cap space this year.

If you have a choice between an intriguing rookie WR and Smith, what would you do?

  5.

That WGR figure of $3.75M is correct, but it includes bonuses already paid. If we cut him today, we only save $2.75M this year. Here's a few sources more authoritative than our local reporters. Link1 Link 2

Okay let's do it your way. Link 2, Over the Cap site, if I am reading it correctly, the only two people would create more Cap savings than Smith, would be Byrd and Kyle Williams.the next closest would be E. Wood and Chandler. So in order of Cap savings we have, Byrd, K. Williams, Smth, E. Wood and Chandler. No one else is close.

What is wrong with this picture?

  6. I am worried about...

    1. Is it going to rain when I make my hay or will I finally get clear skies for a week or two?

Wait, something is wrong with Taylor Swift?

  7.

Any coach would love to have him? For what? Does he make a fabulous taco dip? Several coaches have had him for 7 seasons, but none can find much for him to do.

Hey, something you and I agree on.

The actual cap savings number is $2.75M. Brad Smith isn't going anywhere. Just because Gailey misused him doesn't mean he's getting cut.

I do think Lindell is gone unless this new kicker absolutely falls on his face. I loved Lindell, but he just can't hit the long ones anymore nor reach the endzone, and there's no way I want to carry 2 kickers again.

Where did you come up with $2.7m? The WGR article that started this thread says $3.8m.

  8.

Easley was not used as a WR. Special teams. Doesn't count in this discussion. In fact, that's the point.

I don't even know what the discussion is about. You wrote they Easley couldn't even beat out Martin. My point was that I don't trust any personnel decisions by the previous coaching staff, which in my opinion would render their decision to never play Easley moot, and further more Easley is on the roster. Nelson, Jones, and Martin are not.

I don't care if they keep Easley or cut him but I will trust in this coaching staffs decision not last years.

  9.

You must have missed the point that he couldn't beat out even the guys cut from last year's roster.

My post was refuting at least 3 "if Easley is healthy/ready to go" posts. He has been healthy since at least the 2012 offseason. Even former "Megamind" Chan Gailey would have been able to figure out if Easley was better than Ruvell Martin.

Apparently not, Easley is currently on the rooster and Martin is not.

  10.

Easley was healthy and "ready to go" last season. Yet he couldn't beat out guys like Ruvell Martin and 3rd string QB Smith for a WR spot on a team starving for WRs.

I think his free ride/Bills gym membership is about to expire..

I have no idea what Easley can do and I am not defending him. However I have zero faith in any personnel decisions made by the previous coaching staff. This staff immediately cut two of last years season opening starting WR.

  11.

I went to pro-football-reference.com and looked up some stats. Just as I expected, Lindell's field goal percentages drop off significantly for FGs beyond 40 yards. Obviously every kicker's statistics drop off for longer ranges, but it seems as though Lindell's dropped off a little more than most. His touchback percentage is also dropping fast. I don't want to trash the guy, I just think it's time to move on.

I hope this coaching staff has no intention of running the wildcat. I just think that Smith is a good all around contributor and a voice of experience which may make it worth keeping him. I don't know anything about his contract (other than he is paid a lot more than most people think he should be), and I don't know how much cap room would be saved by cutting him. If cutting him saves enough cap room to sign somebody else that fills a bigger need, then I would be all for it.

As important as the cap space is the rooster spot. We know who Smith is.

Could one of the numbers guys figure out how much cap space is saved by cutting Smith?

    Sorry,found it $3.8 million.

  12. 4th and 5th receivers are expected to play on special teams... Which all these new guys have little experience doing. I'd keep Smith around instead of a 3rd qb

Brad Smith is mediocre at everything he does. Not a good receiver, not much of a return man and certainly not a QB. Smith is never going to be anything more than what he is, and you would like to keep him rather than a rookie with potential?

  13. I predict Brad Smith sticks around and they put one or two rookie WRs on the practice squad as insurance against injury.

I think Lindell is as good as gone. The rookie has to really stink to lose the job at this point. I always liked Lindell, he is bigger and tougher than most kickers. He actually made a few tackles over the last few years, which is rare for a kicker (and an indication of how bad the special team play has been, since the kicker shouldn't have to make any tackles). But he was never a great kicker, he's getting old, and it's time to move on. I predict the QB, LS, P and K will all be from Florida State this year.

What has Smith ever done? He was brought in to run the Wildcat. This coaching staff has no intention of running the Wildcat.

  14. Heres the way i see it:

Mark Anderson isn't going anywhere. My bet is he has a great year.

Rian Lindell--buh bye. No need to spend 3 mil on a kicker who dominates from 30 yds and under.

Brad Smith-- Nice guy but really doesnt fit what it looks like they are gonna do. Too much young talent at that position for him to hang around at his cap numbers.

Pears-- Give me a break, he isn't going anywhere. He's one of our top 4 lineman right now.

Tavaris Jackson-- Goodbye, thx for the memories (oh thats right there are none) good luck at your next stop.

I agree, I thought Smith was on narrowed time last year and these guys aren't even thinking about the Wildcat. The only way Jackson stays is if he put plays Kolb in camp and preseason. Rian is gone he has been a good kicker but time waits for no man.

Anderson and pears stay unless they really get trounced in camp.

    Borrowed not narrowed.

    Out not put

    Damn spell correct!

  15. oopsies. I forgot about the game in our sister city. 11-4!. I hope we make the second round, the Jets are going to be out for blood since we didn't take Geno.

Cranks you're a genius. The first time I read this all I saw was a second math error, which of course is was not. You were just yanking our collective chain, well done.

The Geno thing is brilliant. If I wore a hat it would be off to you.

  16.

There were five OL drafted in the 1st 10 picks of the draft....followed by more of them in the later part of the round and then in the 2nd round too. That is not a pundit's opinion but teams showing where the strength of this draft was.

Someone else pointed this out on another thread. For the 8th pick the Bills got, Manuel, Alonso and Gragg. So they would have been better off taking the 5th best OL?

  17.

And Manuel figured it out in 20 minutes. It wasn't that he was so prepared for it and played so many games in it before. He grew up in Florida and played in Florida. The reason he could do it is because he has the big hands and the big arm and that is why they chose him. Barkley couldn't do it IMO because he has the rag arm.

    Grew up in Virginia.

  18.

The one on TSW that jumps out at me is "reigns" instead of "reins" when writing something like "The Bills are handing the reigns to EJ." As he was drafted to be a QB and not a king, it would be nice to see "reins" used.

At least it is just a miss use of a synonym. How about a word that does not exist, "prolly" instead of "probably" is the one that kills me. That being said this is not an English class.
