Did Trueblood start in Tampa this past season?
-
Not a great sign. But we're not necessarily just leverage for more bucks. IIRC Atl is his hometown team and family is all there... It's harder to move away from a dream job. Especially from a contender to... optimism?
He's from Knoxville TN
-
It's not right, some idiot in this thread plucked that number out of his head.
Right, highest per year paid NFL tackle is Peters @ $10M per. $13M seems excessive.
-
Looks like an agreement with Atlanta..... damn....
according to whom?
-
Other than to make a smartass comment, free agency has started, otherwise it wouldn't be announced. Pen to paper tomorrow, big deal.
And two, does Brad Smith stop the run, rush the passer, or play tackle on the O-Line or D-Line?
This smells like a team that doesn't understand what makes Brad Smith so effective.......a good team. Kinda like when Washington fell in love, stupidly, with Antwaan Randle El.
The point is that they can still sign an Olineman to play tackle. Signing Smith doesn't stop them from also signing someone like Clabo. Obviously it's not like the draft where you only get to take one player.
-
I think the plan is for Davis to be a starter with Sheppard as his backup & eventual replacement. Therefore they will need to sign a starter to replace Poz with Sheppard, Torbor & White backing up that spot.
-
Interesting that he didn't want to play in the 34 in Washington, but goes to another 34 team in New England.
-
That 7 mil a year for Poz is definitely too much money. Glad we didn't go there.
Isn't it $7.5M now?
-
i agree, but it also takes a personnel dept that has a clue. watching the yearly draft debacle from this front office has been tortuous the past 10 years, or more, if you include the erik flowers pick, and subsequent picks after him. it would be nice to "hit on" a few each year, then compliment thru free-agency. you cant continue to pass up quality players in the name of whitner, mccargo, chris ellis, etc, or completely wash out like what happened in 2007.
This front office has only been the front office for 2 drafts, which the results are not conclusive from yet.
-
I agree that if Poz wanted to play in a 4-3, it would imply there was nothing we could do realistically do to keep him. However, I disagree with the money aspect. If it took 7 M to keep one position manned adequately, we should have done it.
Apparently it would have been more than $7.5M to man it adequately with Poz.
-
Free is a better OT, $7.5M is about right for Clabo.
Interesting, I was under the impression that Clabo was the top ranked OT. Being that he went to the Pro Bowl etc. Is this based on position (right vs left tackle)?
-
Strange, he flamed out in the 3-4 defense in Houston. Doesn't seem like a good fit.
-
Yes, the problem with building through the draft is it takes patience.
-
Give Clabo 7.5 million a year, then go after Zach Miller. Pipe dream?
Clabo should command way more than $7.5M per year, Doug Free just signed a 4 year deal worth $8M per.
We're so far below the cap do we really need to save money?
After the rookies are signed they probably have $20M to spend, and you just spent $17M of it on 2 guys.
-
I prefer Burnett as he has played and had success in the 34 defense. Barnett would also interest me, but only at a cheap price due to age and his history of injury.
-
ILBs would include Andra Davis, Reggie Torbor, Kelvin Sheppard & Chris White. Perhaps Batten, after the draft they supposedly were moving him back outside. Not sure if losing Poz changes that.
-
Right now you're right, obviously they feel it's the superior scheme and have decided to build it on the fly.
4) We're in year 2 and we still don't have a true NT on the roster (DON'T say Jaspar for chrissakes)
I think the hope is actually Troup will end up filling this position.
-
a couple years at 5th in league in tackle for the raiders...has one season in jacksonville on a bad defense and he's a bad player? oh and he's never missed a game...thats what i like
Then you read reports like this on Morrison:
LB Kirk Morrison – He is an example of why tackle totals are one of the worst stats to follow. He has averaged 100 tackles a year for six years. But he’s completely average. -
Wouldn't it be funny if the Jets are driving up the price for Florence with Buffalo.
I was thinking the same thing.
-
"I have so much respect for the Buffalo organization," McCartney said. "They did everything they could to try to sign him. But he felt more comfortable in a 4-3 defense. I want to emphasize how much respect I have for Jim Overdorf (Bills senior vice president of football administration) and the Bills. It was a tough decision."
I guess beating the offer might be a novel approach? Seriously though, is Poz worth this kind of dough?
Right, at some point you have to have a line in the sand on how much you're willing to pay the guy.
-
But didn't the Bills say that they won't target any free agent in the top 100???
I don't think anyone said that.
-
I make these assurances because even a mediocore franchise like the Jaguars is in the playoff hunt every year until the end while we are winning 4-7 games, and out of it by midseason. Reason being moves like this. The Jaguars may not be a championship caliber team, but they make strides to get there. The little bit of talent we do have we let go virtually every free agency period.
Not sure how much of a complaint can be made if they matched the offer and he still walked.
-
The closest on Yahoo's top 100 is Barrett Ruud. It was done pre Barnett getting cut.
24. LB Barrett Ruud(notes) – Not as physically gifted at Posluszny, but has been healthier throughout his career and that can’t be understated.http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-cole_2011_nfl_free_agents_by_pos_072511&expire=1#free-LB
Bet we bring in Brandon Siler has ties with Nix and is a decent 34 ILB
Or Stephen Cooper.

Does it really matter if they were traded for or signed. They were acquired, and produced for them. Big time. And that's just it about Fred Taylor, Sammie Morris, and new little white dude that took Welker's place in the slot last year....(Edelman maybe....same guy cut from the Jets?).......they don't whiff much on who they bring in to play roles. And when they do, they cut them. Almost immediately.
It does when the statement made is "New England is proably the most successfull team of the last 10 years and they get big name free agents."
And I agree about SD, Pitt, and Green Bay. Unfortunately, the Bills draft still hasn't produced anything resembling brilliance, and they don't get the benfit of the doubt, until they finally start hitting on something. There's your difference between GB, Pitt, SD......and say Buffalo or Cincy.
That's true, but the Bills haven't even begun year two, while those teams are well beyond their rebuilding. I'm sure the tone from fans of those squads was similar at this point as well.
Brad Smith...Update...signs with Buffalo

I think they keep 5 WRs and Smith as a 3rd QB/WR/KR who will be on the field quite a bit. So Evans, Johnson, Parrish, Nelson, Easley & Smith. Jones, Roosevelt & the rest of the WRs are odd man out as well as Levi Brown.
