He wasn't cut.
We signed him off the practice squad.
The Cowboys were stacked at TE.
He was cut, we tried to sign Rucker off their PS, they retained Rucker and cut Chandler.

Getting off topic, wasn't there a report done on Troup's progression throughout the season. I know it exists but can't remember what site did the article.

Hopefully not Troup, he is awful. Jasper or Dareus
Haven't reports been that Troup is working with the ones in camp?

What if the league does not reach 99%?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/per-team-spending-minimum-doesnt-apply-until-2013/Still, on a league-wide basis, the labor deal requires the NFL to spend 99 percent of the salary cap in cash in 2011 and 2012.So what happens if too many teams spend so little that the league isn’t able to average 99 percent of the cap in actual cash spent? NFL general counsel Jeff Pash, via NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, explained Friday night that the league would be required to pay the difference to the players.
That said, the league doesn’t believe that it will be a problem, even if teams like the Bucs and Bengals and Chiefs decide to spend as little as possible over the next two years. Based on the money spent to date, the league thinks that the average expenditure of $119 million per team easily will be met.
Remember, it’s not cap space but cash spent. So when a team like the Panthers gives defensive end Charles Johnson a $30 million signing bonus on a six-year deal, only $5 million counts against the cap — but $30 million counts against the league’s total spending requirement of $3.8 billion.

I'd rather they signed Flozell Adams or Bryant McKinnie. At least then they'd show they were addressing a position of need instead of the deepest position.
I'd rather a guy who has a chance at passing a physical and making the team.

Why?
Why not? Former first round pick. Can't hurt to take a look.

Former Bills S Donte Whitner did NOT go to Cincinnati. He agreed to a 3-year, $11.75 million deal with $4 million gtd with the 49ERS.

Makes more sense now, Donte to SF

What are other backup QBs making around the league?
-
It's not like he got burned by Ben Watson twice, running the same play, to lose the game that the Pats came back to win on both of those plays.
Oh right...
I would be wrong not to mention Leodis's nice fumble to force Donte into blowing the coverage.
Wasn't that Keith Ellison?

George Wilson's EVERYTHING is better than Whitner's. Better instincts, better hands, better height, better tackling, better playmaker, better leadership... better player, period.
Even if your assessment is correct you would have to think this coaching staff doesn't agree since Whitner started over Wilson all last season.

If all they're looking for is a blocking TE he seems like as good of an option as any.

It looks like the veteran minimum is around $800,000. Madieu williams just signed with the 49rs for just over the league min at $810,000. Donte should get the veteran min with incentives in tackles and int's. He might have a heart for Buffalo but I think Buffalo wants his A#$ out of town.
Sensabaugh signed yesterday 1 year $2.5M, seems a more likely comparable.

Easley and Sheppard are the only injuries of notable players, they're only out a week, and even they weren't going to go into the season as starters. I don't think it's that bad really.

Thanks! That answered other questions too. Some post made it seem like some teams could go over(ie 105%), if others were under. So would there be a possibility the league could tell the Bills they need to spend more, or tell the bottom 5 teams in spending they need to spend more so league wide they hit 99% mark?
No, if they don't hit the mark the league will pay the remaining % they are under to the players union. It won't go to one individual player from one individual team or anything like that.

What I am wondering is; can a team or teams go over their cap/s?
No, they can go over in cash and amortize the bonus over the life of the contract. But there is a cap ceiling that they cannot go over.
-
The only guy I think they may want to keep might be the ILB White and keeping 6 WRs plus Smith seems excessive. I'd also like them to find a backup FS or resign Whitner and move Wilson to FS.
-
I'm curious on that outlier year with Gonzalez how much they used him split out as a WR and let a different TE handle the blocking role.
-
The only thing I can figure is this:
Coleman has been taking reps with the ones in practice, and Batten has been getting good reviews this year at camp after a good camp last year before his injury. Perhaps they feel both are better than Moats at OLB? Both were on IR when Moats got his shot outside, therefore getting the playing time due to their injuries. With everyone healthy they all move back to their original positions from last year.
Moving Moats inside gives Moats a better opportunity to make an impact, I'm guessing Torbor gets cut at some point, and Moats & Sheppard are the 2nd string ILBs and perhaps eventual replacements behind two aging veteran ILBs.

Has anyone seen Shawn Nelson at camp? He's listed on the camp roster at 272lbs, quite a jump for a guy who was listed at 240lbs coming into the draft. Looking for confirmation on this added size.
-
I think you mean Von Miller.
-
David Nelson is actually listed as a WR. Our top TE is David Martin...SIGN SOMEONE ALREADY YOU FRIGGIN HICKS!
