Really? So what happens if they are at 98%? Who has to spend more between Buffalo and Cincy?
The league as a whole gives the 1% to the players.
Still, on a league-wide basis, the labor deal requires the NFL to spend 99 percent of the salary cap in cash in 2011 and 2012.So what happens if too many teams spend so little that the league isn’t able to average 99 percent of the cap in actual cash spent? NFL general counsel Jeff Pash, via NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, explained Friday night that the league would be required to pay the difference to the players.
Also of note:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/per-team-spending-minimum-doesnt-apply-until-2013/Remember, it’s not cap space but cash spent. So when a team like the Panthers gives defensive end Charles Johnson a $30 million signing bonus on a six-year deal, only $5 million counts against the cap — but $30 million counts against the league’s total spending requirement of $3.8 billion. -
Miller visited Seattle yesterday.

So let's not bring him in for the competition because Batten, Coleman and Maybin are quality depth.
I didn't say the Bills shouldn't bring him in, I just said that you calling him a pass rusher was inaccurate.
-
I felt the same way, but debating that on these boards is a waste of time. Ultimately it's Kelsay's play that gets everyone riled up, and rightly so.
But it's always made in comparison to his salary:
9/29/2010: Signed a five-year, $28.2 million contract. The deal contains $11 million in bonus money. 2011: $2 million, 2012: $3.5 million, 2013: $3.725 million, 2014: $3.745 million, 2015: Free AgentHe's only making $2M this year.
-
Like Tight Ends, pass rushers don't fit into the Bills schemes.
He's not a pass rusher, Kelsay had more sacks than him last year. Rumor was that he wanted to make a move to the 4-3 where he may be better suited.
-
OK - so there's no cap then at all for teams for this year and next? And relative to the last sentence - how in the world would they manage a requirement for all teams collectively to be at 99% with no individual team floor? If they are at 97% say, who do they make spend to get to the min?
There's a cap ceiling, no floor. The 99% has to be spent on a cash basis, not cap dollars. The 2% would be evenly split across the board and paid in dollars to the players union. No team would actually have to spend the money on a player.

Cap is $120 million. 99% to be spent.
Not each team, the league as a whole, in cash not cap hits. There is no floor on the cap, just the cash.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/per-team-spending-minimum-doesnt-apply-until-2013/The summary of the final deal that we obtained on Monday confirms that, indeed, the “minimum team cash spend” applies on a four-year basis from 2013 through 2016, and from 2017 through 2020. No minimum per-team expenditure applies for 2011 and 2012.Still, on a league-wide basis, the labor deal requires the NFL to spend 99 percent of the salary cap in cash in 2011 and 2012.
Remember, it’s not cap space but cash spent. So when a team like the Panthers gives defensive end Charles Johnson a $30 million signing bonus on a six-year deal, only $5 million counts against the cap — but $30 million counts against the league’s total spending requirement of $3.8 billion.
I would be interested to know how the NFL is to enforce this new cap limit: Teams would need to be fined $ for each Mil. under the
cap floor, in some type of sliding scale:
$ 1,000,000.00 - $ 2,500,000.00 under cap fined 10 % of total amount?
Just guessing here, but strange how we aren't hearing more about this?
For the 99% cash basis they'll just give the players union the difference in money. The penalty for going over the cap is draft picks, I would assume it may be the same for being under the floor.

Not trying to get the hype machine rolling on this guy but it's the "planet theory" as I believe it is called? 6'4" 390lbs, 32" vertical..etc...etc??? There are literally only a handful of guys on the entire planet that can do those things.
I have no idea who this Joel Bell is but 6'7" 315 is not really that out of the ordinary for an NFL football player. Not sure the comparison is even remotely valid.
I think the comparison is more to fans over-hyping a developmental guy. Lonnie Harvey also comes to mind from last offseason.
I hope for the best with Jasper.

Why keep him at all? Nicks says he's gonna upgrade at every position and it doesn't matter who.I can name at least three young receivers on our team who are better than him,but Nicks is the guy who went after thigpen. What an upgrade.I guess i'm just frustrated.
I disagree with your analysis of there being 3 receivers on the team better than Evans. Johnson maybe, and that's it. Thigpen is an upgrade over Brohm. Also, it's Nix.
-
With that 5 mil we could have a stud proven TE.
Why can't the Bills have both Lee Evans and a $5M TE?
-
Gerald Sensabaugh - SS
Avril is a 4-3 DE
-
Is tonite a padded practice??
I'd assume at least uppers, like yest.
-
That being said... its likely our D still sucks, unless we start getting some QB pressure and some run stops.
Those would be 2 things that would make it better.

His contract ended after last season, he is a UFA
-
Sorry, but this doesn't prove much to me on behalf of the front office. This was a gift and we don't know how much we paid either.
3 years $12M

Apparently White had a good day today by all acounts
They say he is explosive through the hole and runs low to the ground
Will he make the roster as 3rd RB behing Fred Jackson and Spiller
Yes, I highly doubt they use a pick on a guy to fill a 3rd RB role that was vacant last year and then cut him after only one camp. Unless of course one of the UDFAs beat him out which I don't see happening.

FWIW, a pic of a garbage plate was included in the tweet and it looked kind of messy... I didn't take it as a slam against WNY dining, just a little joke about his choice of meal not being "fine dining".
It's not a garbage plate:
It's a fish. Unless the garbage plates have gotten really crazy since I left Roch.
detroit is actaully a better fa landing spot. their defense is pretty solid with fairly suh in the middle, adding barnett next to vandenbosch with the lb would shore that d up pretty well. they also have a young tough quickly improving quarterback and half a decade of wr picked in the first round. if you are a player you are picking detroit over buffalo at this point, all day everyday
Detroit no longer has a need for him after signing Tulloch, so he no longer has that option anyday. Also, Vandenbosch is a DE.
-
While that is true, it's not just because 20 years have passed that Americans have become THAT much bigger. If Ritcher and Hull were around and playing today, you could probably add 20+ pounds to both of them due to the training and nutrition and other reasons besides evolution that today's players are bigger. And Talley, Bennett, Conlon etc would probably have 10-15 more pounds of muscle, too.
Agreed, the insinuation was that Barnett would have no trouble in the 34 defense because he was a similar weight to Talley, Bennett, Conlon etc.
PFT article, doesn't really offer much more insight. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/bills-apparently-jump-into-the-nick-barnett-derby/
-
I don't think Barnett's size is necessarily a problem, but come on... Talley, Conlan and Bennett all started playing in the NFL 25+ years ago. Literally an entire generation----- and Spikes has been a 4-3 OLB, for the most part. Not exactly apples to apples.
Agreed on both counts. Barnett is plenty big, but to use guys who played in the late 80s to early 90s as proof of that is asinine. For comparisons sake olinemen such as Jim Ritcher weighed 273lbs and Kent Hull 278lbs.

If he did actually fail his physical/conditioning test, that will bring his market value WAY down. We could potentially get him on the cheap, low risk, high reward.
Want nothing to do with him if he actually did fail his physical or even his conditioning test.
-
I'll take an experienced LB in the 3-4 to play 4-8 games for us rather than Torbor and Davis
Isn't that the description of Davis?
-
Going into last season the starting LBs were Torbor-Davis-Poz-Kelsay.
Now they're likely Merriman-Davis-Torbor-Kelsay. With Sheppard and Moats perhaps making an impact on that lineup. Plus Davis was hurt the majority of last year. Seems basically the same if not better to me.

Has there been any news on Urbik or Hangartner's health? Didn't both tear ACLs during the Minnesota game last year?

Thought I'd correct this, they had a Bills topic going as well as light chatter about movies. The guy called in with a completely different Bills topic and yes, they did cut him off from talking about Fitzpatrick or something like that on the basis that they had a different Bills topic going on. They didn't cut him off because they were "only taking calls about comedy movie draft."
Can't wait for the draft this Friday.
