  1. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way comparing the Bills to those Ravens. Just saying, if Dilfer can win a SB, any one can if the team is built right around them.

Obviously it is an extreme and rare example

Not sure it is rare or extreme:

    Ripken

    Williams

    Hostetler

    johnson

    Dilfer

    E.Manning(although he has grown)

At least 10% of the SB winning QBs are anything but elite and the is treating some average/above average QBs generously.

  2. The 49ers spent on players OVER the salery cap every year & were not punished for it until Eddie D was forced to leave the team & league. People give Walsh much more credit than he deserves. Neither Belicheat or Walsh would have won a single Superbowl without cheating.

Are you talking about Walsh's time as a coach? The salary cap came into existance ~1994 and Walsh was well gone by then.

  3. People put down Losman ,yet his only year as a starter, we had a record of 7 wins 9 lost. Last two years with Losman as a backup QB, 7 wins and 9 lost. I don't think Edwards is any better. Look at his play the second half of year. Yea he had a good start, but look who we played againts. Losman had 19 tds his only year as a starter, how many tds did Edwards have the last two years combine. Yea Losman had bad season last year, but 2006 wasn't that bad of a year for him. He is still a young qb. 2007 Losman started 7 games ,those teams had a combine win ,lost record of 61 wins 35 lost. Miami was one of those teams with 1 win, so the rest of the teams had combine 60 wins and 20 lost. That is some tough teams to play againts. And with our overall supporting cast plus our great head coach. I think you'll being to harsh on Losman. Last year he was bad ,but only two starts.

True but he also came in twice as the backup, the Arizona game was basically a full game , and did not perform well. I do not dislike Losman but I think he needs a lot of help to be a productive QB in this league, backup or otherwise.

I blame Mularkey for that, he should have given him more time under Bledsoe instead of handing him the job in his second year. He also was too big on flip flopping him with Holcomb instead of choosing one or the other. Everyone likes to state how well Mularkey did with Ryan this year but that was a different situation, here as a head coach he did not have time to work with his QB to that extent and it was a determent to JP.

  4. The real key to the success of the no huddle is letting you QB call his own plays, from a shortened play list. People always claim the league figured out the no huddle after the first year, but It was really a case of the coaching staff slowing down the sequence of plays to be able to call them from the sideline which allowed defenses time to substitue. The idea was to give our D more time to rest as we were scoring so quickly, or if we went three out the D was back on the field in about 15 minutes real time. To be truly sucessful you need an aggressive, gambling D that can get right back off the field. If you give up a score you have to rely on the O to get it back. And if your D is agressive that leads to turnovers and you O is in the endzone again or the D scores. If you don't believe me compare games from 1990 and 1991. In 90 we were running plays every 15-20 seconds. In 91 it was every 35-40. Huge difference. Also you have to be solid against the run, otherwise you have long drives by the opponent and their D gets rested. I would love to see it reborn.

I think this is a great point! When you look at more modern versions of the no-huddle the most important piece is stripped away, the hurry up piece. OU vs Florida last year was a prime example, sure OU would line up in a hurry but then Sam Bradford would look over to the sideline for the call from the coach wasting 10-20 seconds for a play to come in.

The no-huddle is close to meaningless if you are going to line up quickly, then wait for a call the come in from the coaching staff, and then walking up and down the line convening the play. They should have the plays scripted or the QB should be calling the plays with a suggestion from the OC.

I think it would be a great idea for the Bills to run this type of offense, Trent did great in hurry up situations last year. If he has 4 quarters do play like that all the better.

  5. I just don't see that happening. A TE of his caliber will not fall past #20. There are not a lot of offensive weapons in the draft and a lot of teams in need of a TE. If the Bill's took him at 11 I would be a little disappointed. If they traded down to around 18-20 I would feel better.

I admit I am pretty ignorant about the draft but I do not understand this statement and others like it. I mean, if you need a TE and he is available at 11, why do you care if he is taken at 11 or 20? I do not understand why it matters if, of course, your choice for the team's first pick is a TE.

Can someone explain this to me?

  6. United Football League

    UFL website

The United Football League, a new professional outdoor football league,

announced four former standout NFL coaches as the league`s first head coaches

for its "Premiere" season this morning at a press conference in San Francisco.

The League also announced the San Francisco franchise will play its home games

    at AT&T Park.

UFL Founder Bill Hambrecht, UFL Investor Paul Pelosi and UFL Commissioner

Michael Huyghue were on hand to introduce the newest members of the UFL team.

All four of the newly announced coaches have impressive coaching pedigrees

having worked in both the NFL and collegiate ranks.

Teams in San Francisco, New York , Orlando, Las Vegas .

The Coaches introduced were, Dennis Green, Jim Fassel, Jim Haslett , Ted Cottrell.

Perhaps I am missing something but doesn't their team sites goes against their mission? They state their mission is: to "fulfill the unmet needs of football fans in major markets currently underserved by professional football", but two of their sites have two NFL teams each (San Francisco[Raiders/49ers], New York[Giants and Jets]) how does this fulfill their mission?

  7. I actually thought Jenkins was trying not to be insulting in his article. I think his point was that we're a solid franchise, but just never have had over-the-top, flamboyant stars. He might be wrong--but I don't think his intent was to impugn the Bills as a bad football team.

I would have to agree! This line pretty much sums up his arguments:

The Bills sort of enjoy being a small-market treasure built on solid football rather than flamboyance.
