  1. I would like to be the first to give the O Line credit.....but I will do so when Spiller isn't starting because HE IS THE BEST AT DODGING DEFENDERS IN THE BACKFIELD

He is good at that. You're right. We all know that though. The point of the thread is to point out how well the line played this preseason.

  2. I think that you guys are failing to do what almost all fans do at times... Give credit to the offensive line! I grew up a chubby kid, and played OL and DL through 8th grade. We never got any credit, just like a lot of offensive lineman don't today. I made it a point to thank my O and D lines when I switched to LB and RB in high school. They are the most important part of a football team.

Now, before you jump on me:

I saw CJ's elusiveness. It is amazing. I really really like Spiller. I'm not trying to take away from CJ, only trying to give some credit to our big guys. I re-watched all of the preseason games, and I noticed:

-Bell looks like he's really coming around! I think he'll be among the above average LT's this season. He's lightyears ahead of where he was last year. I hope he can end the pre-snap penalties.

-As we know, Eric Wood is the man. I've been a huge Wood fan since we drafted him. I went into the Bills store before last season looking for his jersey, and the guy thought I was nuts because I didn't want Maybin :w00t:

-Levitre is in the same boat as Eric. Solid Guard. Great in pass pro, very good in run blocking.

-Hangman is as average as they come, but I was impressed with the way he moved on screens

-Cornell is bad. I hope Jamon can take the job.

Ultimately, I am showing CJ love, don't get me wrong. I'm just curious to know how Fred would have done. I think Fred would still be the starter if he got to play. Our line is going to be decent this year.

Finally, I gotta give my prediction. The national media is wrong. All of our guys have another year under their belts. We're going to stay much healthier than last year. We have a coach who seems to know what he's doing. In spite of our terrible luck and coaching last year, we pulled out 6-10. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be an improved squad this year.

8-8, and we miss the playoffs, but show a ton of promise for 2011.

See you all at the game on sunday!! Lot 3, Pole 8. Come say hello to WordByrd in the Poz jersey.

  3. !@#$ Him. Trent sucks and the fans are sick of his ass being on the field let alone this team. If a team sucks or a player sucks its every fans right to boo or heckle or whatever. If Gailey doesn't like it, then do something about it, get a real god damn QB in here and start winning some ball games.

This is the song that never ends, and it goes on and on my frieeend :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

  4. Two things....

from 88-86 ESPN couldn't stop kissing our asses. I remember fans of every other team in the NFL Sick and tired of all the love hyped on the Bills by the National Media. So it isn't like we haven't had our time in the sun so to speak.

Second, we suck. We are hands down THE worst team in the NFL right now. Even the Raiders look better right now. It will not suprise me at all if we finish with the first overall pick this year. Ralph wilson has done nothing to make the situation any better and won't. Until we have a new owner, nothing will change. Until we start winning games and be a legit threat to make the playoffs, NO national media is going to give us any respect.

I cannot wait to laugh at you in 20 weeks because of this statement. So wrong.

  5. I know that Buffalo has been looked down upon for many years by the national media, but what the hell is up with ESPN this year? I swear Ralph must have burned one of their producers, because every analyst LOVES hating on the Bills. I know this has been discussed before, but in the past few months, our Bills have been torn apart exponentially more than ever before. I just don't understand how the think "Buffalo is on the clock". The Bills are NOT THAT BAD!

-We have a better coaching staff

-Many of our players have another year of experience

-We won 6 games last year, despite having half of the team on IR

-We were in almost every single game until the end last year

There are many more reasons to believe we will win more than 1 or 2 games. Feel free to give me more

  6. All you guys that think Maybin is gonna get it and lead the team in sacks this year are !@#$ing hysterical. Aside from Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay led the team last year with five sacks from his natural position at DE. Behind him Kyle Williams had four, while Ryan Denney and Spencer Johnson had two apiece. Schobel's gone, Kelsay and Williams have moved to positions that don't fit their skill sets (there is no way Kelsay excels at OLB and even if Williams who is a prototypical 4-3 DT excels he won't be racking up sacks), Denney is 33 and still terrible, and Spencer Johnson likely comes off the bench this year.

My guess is we have QB-pressure-by-committee, register somewhere between 24th and 30th in sacks with Torbor leading the way with 5.5. Maybin is cut at the end of 2011. If we want someone to rush the passer than has no skills except for his speed (and Mike Mayock's prized first step ("you either wake up with it in the morning or you don't")) but is finished once the opposing tackle gets a hand on you, then maybe we should just have Roscoe rush the passer. Wouldn't be any less effective, IMO.

I agree with the fact that Aaron Maybin is a boy in a league of men, AND that Torbor is the dark horse for the lead. I think he's gonna be pretty good. I liked what I saw from Dwan the other night too

  7. I hope that none of you are stupid enough to clap when there's a good play at camp. This has been one of my pet peeves. #1 no matter what, if one player on your team does something well, it's exposing another player. #2 when they break a long run, chances are the RB would have been crushed 3 yards past the LOS. Sorry for the rant

  8. Those were my positions. Have him keep two hands through the first level (the D-line). He can switch to one hand for the rest of the run to allow more mobility. Work with him at home on keeping the ball "high and tight". Have the head of the football peek through his middle and ring fingers. Make sure he keeps his arm and elbow underneath the ball without exposing the underside. Last but not least SQUEEZE! You can even do a drill with him for 5 minutes here and there where he jogs slowly and you try to knock the ball out. He'll get it in no time.

Shockdoctors are great mouthguards. I prefer the one's that don't have the pad on the outside. They're great for preventing dental injury. Maybe the one you got was a bad model?

Gloves are a personal preference. I liked them for LB but not RB. I had LB gloves that had a small amount of padding that was almost unnoticeable, and it helped. Under dry conditions gloves are great on offense, but when it gets slick I felt like they hurt me.

    Hope this helps

  9. Now before anyone gets their shorts all knotted up in a bunch, please know I am NOT comparing Maybin to the greatest outside LB in team history (with apologies to Mike Stratton). I will simply say that in one on one drills Bennett got his ass handed to him more than once by the likes of Wilford, Ballard, etc. A behemoth tackle SHOULD domindate a much smaller man in that confined space.

Let's all take a look when they line up and our Ts have to contend with a DE and Maybin operating in space. Maybin's got a lot to learn, no doubt. He looked lost last season. But he does have some physical gifts that can be exploited if he can take advantage of them. It's on him and the coaches to make that happen. He may end up riding pine but there's a lot to look at before that decision is made. Nothing definitive can be determined based on a drill on the first day of his second camp as a pro.

That said, thanks for the report, WordByrd. Good stuff. Keep 'em coming.

    GO BILLS!!!

You're welcome to everyone who said thanks. I'll be in Boston for the weekend, but after that I will be doing a lot of reporting from camp for you guys.

  10. Hey WordByrd, a couple of players of note on the O-line, please.

    How looked Bell?

    How looked Wood?

Thanks very much for the reporting. The news about Maybin is disturbing - not so much that he's either skinny or ripped. That's subjective. What's disturbing is hearing that he's getting tossed on his ass by the O-line. Getting tossed on your ass isn't subjective. That doesn't bode well.

DBell was limited, but looked to move well while he was out there. He threw MaybiNot on his butt. I think the Meredith/Bell battle will be a good one. Meredith looks like he's in good shape and moving very well also. I think Meredith could surprise.
