I guess the best way to see this is to pull up a few sites and see who you would actually take before Stevie. A few guys the other night said its all about the STATS. Finally some people that see the light. I dont think that anyone does not admit that Stevie is a decent player. Plays above average but definately not the best since Andre Reed...not even close. Moulds blows Stevie out of the water. Actually, if you pull up a list of the top WR's in the league Stevie is ranked between 22 and 28...and if you go down that list with a clear, unbiased, mind you may even place him the same being Buffalo Bills fans. I actually think this goes WAY deeper than STEVIE JOHNSON...this goes to where Buffalo Fans need to stop overvaluing the players on the team and be honest with reality. Buffalo has filled a ton of holes and still has a bunch to fill. Just because Stevie has had 2 seasons with 1000 yards does not mean he is the answer at WR. He is limited in so many ways. A guy like MERRIMAN that is defended on this board has not made a difference in 5 or so seasons still is considered an ALL PRO player. He has done nothing for the Bills. The key here is to be honest in what the Bills have and where they need to improve. Stevie will be a fantastic #2 or to be fair a fantastic #1B....they need that #1 GO TO guy still....just as they need a QB that is capable of winning a Superbowl...A TE that produces consistantly up and down the field...LB's that can stop the run...etc... I believe most have pride in the players that the Bills have but you cannot let that pride blind you vs. reality and the quality that other teams produce. You defend a player that has cost the Bills through drop and penalties more games that he has won for the Bills. Tough to gage what games he has won, but he has cost them 2.

I will hold the applause for the 2012 season and the hope he does not drop the game winning pass after being wide open. He has done well against him and lets hope that continues. I usually don't applaud individuals when the Bills as a team lost a game...and especially individuals that played a major hand in the loss. Put a winning product on the field after 11 long seasons and I will applaud.

8 REC for 75 yards (1 TD) in the first game and 3 for 85 yards in the second game (both losses) is how we as Bills fans define OWNING a player? Seem like pretty average days for a WR to me. At least he had 8 REC but that YPC is not impressive at all. OWNING a player, to me at least, is throwing up numbers such as 5 REC 125 yards and 2 TD's...that is OWNING a player. Stevie had 2 decent games which he should have as a #1 WR. Just because Revis didnt shut him out does not mean he was OWNED...I am not defending REVIS but more so explaining what I feel a more logical definition of what OWNING a player means

Stevie is a good player. He brings some positives to the table but some negatives as well. I would not say Stevie has "owned" Revis island due to the fact the Bills lost both of those games. Any stats he put up against Revis really mean sqat if the Bills don't win the game in the end. Furthermore, I believe he had 8 catches for 75 yards. Realize that in the NFL a team will give that up all day long...those are nothing more than timing patterns, most being hooks. I believe it is the big play ability where Stevie lacks a little. Stevie has peaked. What you get from him 70 catches and 1000 yards is about all that you will see out of him for the next 3-5 years. Again, not bad, but also something that if I were the GM I would maybe look to improve on. If you were to become complacent with Stevie being your #1 and surround him with Donald Jone's, David Nelson's etc you will have another year like last year. The best thing for the Bills and the best thing for Stevie is to bring in a large, fast WR with a bunch of upside. Exactly what Atlanta did with Julio Jones last year. When bringing in a talent he may be #2 to Stevie for the first year, maybe even the 2nd year but a WR with the potential such as Floyd or Blackmon, you are truly drafting them with the thought of them being the #1 shortly down the line. Please dont take offense to this as we are all entitled to our own opinions. I will say that a true #1 receiver does not cost their team games either through stupid penalties and dropped passes. Both can be corrected (at least the penalties) as it is time for Stevie to mature a little more and be the leader FULL TIME that he has shown or at least talked about. I would rank Stevie behind players such as Andre Reed, James Lofton, Lee Evans and Eric Moulds and slightly ahead of Peerless Price

How can you justify paying Jackson 10 mil or so a year for a WR that is 29 years old, never had over 70 Receptions in a season and has only been over 1000 yards 3 times in his career? He is about to be 30 years old. This would be a terrible deal for Buffalo in that San Diego had Phillip Rivers throwing to Jackson throughout his career, we have Fitz. I believe 10 million a year could be spent better between 2 or 3 younger players (including a WR).

Agreed. Clark is 33 and from what I read he looked terrible on the field last year. He dropped a bunch of passes (maybe because of injury) and missed a ton of blocks. With Chandler resigned and an aging Clark I would pass and try to draft another TE.

If a broke down LB is the only thing that we have on the D for other teams to gameplan around then they Bills are still YEARS away from competing in a 16 game season. So Sad that Merriman is who many of you cling onto for HOPE. Since Merriman's career is over in the NFL due to injury most likely caused by massive amounts of ROIDS...its time to start shooting up another player to replace his preseason heroics and 1 sack over 5 games. My vote is for MORRISON. He was supposed to be some good LB that was "holding out for the right team" (translation - no other team wanted him).... WOW with this Merriman crap....

Looking ahead to week 17. Do the Pats beat the Bills down in week 17 because of the Bills win earlier in the year....even if they have clinched Home Field Advantage? I can seem the doing it the Patriots way...No Mercy and setting like 9 Offensive records in the process....then quotes like "we were just tuning up for the playoffs"..."it was a good warm up"....

I had started a topic the other day about the 3-4 and 4-3 and what the Bills may be more suited for. I have been thinking about this after reading up on people's responses and I am becoming more and more amazed (not at the posters, but the Bills). Many people have stated that the Bills are closer to the 3-4 vs. the 4-3 with their current roster...the way I look at it is WHO CARES. Either way they stink...either way there are holes to fill. I see the Bills going down the path of stink defense's for the next 3-5 years running the 3-4 and at some point everyone looking back and saying..."you know for the last 3, 4, 5, years the Bills have really been playing out of position".....We have 2 Very Good players in Williams and Darius...why are they not building the D around their greatest strengths? Putting them both in at DT? The more and more I think about it, the more and more I am amazed. This is soon to be on par with the Bills drafting Maybin over some other players because they had their minds made up and could not accept the fact that another player (a better player) may fall into their laps. While I commend the pick of Darius and I believe it was a gift for him to fall to Buffalo...At that immediate second the Bills should be planning to build around him as a franchise player. Please dont tell me "they are, him as a DE"...that would be like saying Detroit drafted Suh as a DE.... The fact of the matter is Gailey has it predetermined in his mind to switch to the 3-4...dangerous path to go down. Just the same as wanting CJ Spiller. Now, Spiller is looking a little better (still goes down to easy), BUT at the time we had Jackson and Lynch and Lynch was FINE sharing the load with Jackson. There were bigger needs there. THIS IS WHY THE BILLS CONTINUE TO FAIL

ENOUGH with the Merriman crap. Guy has missed 4 of the last 5 years. HE IS DONE. Merriman is not the savior of the Bills D. He is DONE in the NFL: 1. D Coordinator is done in Buffalo. Even if he has been "OK" he is not on the same level as Gailey. A bigger ego is needed at D coordinator. The Bills need a Lebeau type (funny they had him) 2. Merriman experiment is done. Loved him, routed for him, but at this point he is a liability knowing he is going to get hurt. 3. Buffalo needs to switch back to a 4-3 to utilize their two best players properly. The Defense should be built around your 2 best players. I cannot imagine us in 5 year talking the same stuff on this board saying "back in 2011 or 2012 the Bills really should have built their D around their 2 best players"....DO IT NOW

I have been saying this (as many people probably have) for many years...but does it not always seem as if a player has their career day against Buffalo? The guy throws for 350 and 4 tds and he really is a marginal QB. The obvious, Reggie Bush last week. I seem to remember David Boston doing it a few years back... It just seems as if the Bills are always giving it up to a player. Wes Welker earlier this year (at least the Bills won)... I am not bashing them about losing all of those games. I remember a few years back Ricky Williams in the snow at the Ralph rushed for 200+ with the Fins and lost....but I believe it was a career day It is unreal...

FYI - for all you "arm chair" gm's that believe in Merriman...he has hit the IR 4 out of the last 5 years (3 in a row) and played a total of 21 games out of 80 possible.... Good for us though... Anyone that is still trying to defend this project or says to give it more time is insane or just blinded by all the BS that the Bills provide year in and year out.

Ok, maybe I should have worded the post better. A player such as Parrish is not worth bringing back. There is a 100% chance of him getting hurt again and since he was supposed to be such a "huge part of our offense" there are obviously issues when it comes to season preparation within the organization. The EXACT sames goes for Merriman. When a player has had issues 3 years in a row (maybe 4) staying healthy it is NOT a smart move to bring that player back. It DOES NOT MATTER how much you are paying that player. The chances of that player getting healthy, or more importantly, staying healthy are ZERO. Merriman was NOT playing at a high level before he became injury plagued...he unfortunately will not again...ESPECIALLY since he is being watched as he was one of the biggest juice-heads in the league at one point. I speak the truth. I understand all the BS you all spit out there about being an armchair GM, blah blah blah...fact of the matter is you all have a hard on because it is Shawn Merriman and you all think it is 2006. I understand they dont have anything better, but, a broke down player that will end up on the IR only to be filled with some crap like Morrison does nothing for the team either. HE IS DONE AS A BILL.... Let me predict the future for all of you.... May - 2012 NFL Draft - Buffalo Drafts 5 rounds of sleepers. High character with high potential. The board is a buzzing because we have 5 guys that flew under the radar vs. 5 guys that were there in each position. One is some 6th round white LB from a D1AA that had 5 sacks in some meaningless game and ran a 4.4 at the combine. He is tagged the next hybrid Bryce Paup / Clay Matthews cross. August - all of the draft picks are playing lights out in camp. Along with Merriman the 5 plays he practices a day and Parrish looks like the Parrish of 2006. The 1st and 2nd round picks are not in camp yet. Bills go 3-1 in the Pre-Season and have installed some comical offense that everyone on this board wants to give a nickname. PLAYOFFS here we come.... Sept - Merriman is on the IR, Parrish is "day to day", we dont see 1 of the 5 draft picks in the first 4 games and Paup-Matthews hybrid was cut to make room for Merriman's backup. Bills cut Fitzpatrick by the 5th game and "The Rebuilding Process" begins

I am not disagreeing with the talent that Merriman has/had....the point here is that HE IS GOING TO GET HURT AGAIN. There is no need to waste space, time, energy, money, etc. If the Bills cut Merriman he, if lucky, would get signed for the veteran minimum and then CUT at first sniff of his next injury. WOW....

I have to think that due to the lack of talent at LB and DE the Bills are better fit for a 4-3. I would think with 2 Pro-Bowl type DT's they need to make that switch back and load up on DE's and LB's in the draft. Also, I believe a 4-3 does not put as much pressure on your corners.
