  1. Captain Quint - RB

    Navy

    Age: 57

    Ht: 5'10

    Wt: 205

    40yd: 5.70

Vert: said he "doesn't jump for anyone"

    Broad: See above

    PROS: Grit; good fisherman

    CONS: Severely out of shape and preoccupied at the combine; he showed up to his pro day late, reaking of whiskey, and didn't compete in any of the drills. He said he would do an interview, but even that was "pushing it"; Lack of football knowledge; Lack of interest in learning or anything not having to do with sharking;

SUMMARY: Quint, although possessing strong leadership capabilities, would be a reach at any level of the draft. His body has been reduced to an atrophied mess after a life filled with alcoholism and boating.

    PROJECTION: Rd 2, Raiders

  2. Graham's recent article on espn.com states that giving Lynch the same treatment as Brandon "Scumbag" Marshall (reduced 3 game suspension to one game on appeal) as "It would be a bad idea to give Lynch similar treatment." Are you kidding me!? Lynch operated within his legal rights last year in dealing with the alleged "hit and run" incident and Graham says he "jerked the local police around for a month." You're telling me, a kid from a single parent home in Oakland, who had been previously "mistakenly" targeted in a drive by, who has a gun in a bag in his trunk is worse than a third arrest (for which Marchalls suspension in the beginning of the '08 season was predicated on) for domestic charges. In my mind, beating up your girlfriend is a far worse, cowardly offense than both of Lynch's brushes with the law. Gotta love opionated reporting...screw getting the facts and comparing apples to apples, right Tim?

Not to mention, the slap in the face by then being the first to arrogantly post his companies article on TBD.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, indeed, Tim.

  3. We'll probably see it called for the first time when a Bills rusher tackles Brady in the first game. What if they dive at the QB and trip him with a hand on the ankle and he bangs his knee on the ground, will that be a penalty? What's the dividing line between a below knee tackle and a penalty?

I'm wondering the same thing. What if the defender wraps the QB up by the waist but then has to bring him down by the knees?

There's so many variables to this that it's going to be very tough to get a straight call and a straight understanding on whats legal or illegal.

  4. Opening the season on Monday night in Foxboro. I like it. We might as well jump in head-first. You know Brady won't play much, if at all, during the preseason, so he could be rusty. TO shines in the spotlight, so I think a big night from him is quite possible.

My thoughts as well. What's better, Brady with 10 games under his belt with the playoffs in sight or his first game back in a year. He'll probably come out fired up with something to prove, but that doesn't mean that his body will be ready.

  5. Oops, foolish me, I just noticed that this type of thread already exists. I just realized that it is pinned at the top of page one. Thanks for your time, effort, and interest Tim, we're fortunate to have a guy like you on this board.

I also heard that the Pats signed Joey Galloway.

  6. Makes sense.

I am also on record as accepting a Parrish trade, "if the right offer came along".

But, as a fan, I'd love to see them keep Roscoe for at least one more year, to see what he can contribute to a "real" offense. (Of course, I am being overly presumptions assuming the Bills will have a "real" offense, this year. But, a fan can hope.)

He may finally find his place in the offense with the addition of TO. I, too, am cautiously optimistic about the O this year, and it would be a pleasant surprise if Roscoe came out and had a career year. I think that the more likely scenario is that Evans has a big year, but there is a chance that TO and a new TE could totally transform the receiving corp.

  7. That's the kind of thinking that caused a rift in St. Louis. April very much cares who is on his squad, and requires real talent to make it go. If the Bills start short-shrifting ST, I would expect April to find another team, in short order.

I agree with you that he does care (and I guess I shouldn't have said it doesn't matter who is there), but April got a 1st round pick last year in McKelvin, who was one of the more prolific returners in college football. That included 7 TDs on punt returns as well. Every year we bring in or retain quality ST'ers for April's squad, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

With the combo of McKelvin/Jackson, I still feel that we'd be well above average in the personnel dept., plus we have April's genius when it comes to the blocking schemes. Not saying that I'd want to get rid of Parrish, but if the right offer came along, it should at least be entertained without the fear that our punt return corp would suffer too much.

  8. Mcgee won't be returning kicks much longer, he is getting too old to do it, and thats one reason why McKelvin was brought in.

McKelvin won't be returning Kicks, Punts, and play CB

What has Fred Jackson done as a return man that would make you think that the Bills should make him a full time guy?

Trading Parrish, who is one of the top returners in the league, should not be shopped unless they are getting something big in return, not just some mid to late draft pick. He is too valuable on ST's to just give away because the bills signed TO for one year.

Averaged 16.5 yds/ punt return on 7 returns this season. Not a very proven guy, but there's no doubt that he's good with the ball in his hands. Plus we've got McKelvin in case Jackson gets hurt or needs a breather, especially in the first few games if Marshawn is suspended.

Bobby April has proven that it doesn't matter who is back there, we're going to have a good to excellent special teams unit.

  9. I don't get all these smokescreen theories. Are you saying that other teams are going to be lulled into a false sense of security, believing we won't look LB early because of Pat Thomas?

 or that they even care WTF we're doing?

Again I ask, why isn't this dramatic FA signee thread pinned?

When I log on the first thing I see are the pinned topics -eagerly looking for some upgrade in team talent that Ralph publically stated is missing...

Could it be that this signee in inconsequential?????

Actually, I did just get a VText about the signing:

"The Buffalo Bills announced that the team has agreed to terms with UFA Pat Thomas"

  10. If Mack is their target at pick 11, I highly doubt they have to decoy anything. Nobody is trading up into the top ten to take a center.

Exactly right. They'll have their pick of the litter as far as centers go at pick 11.

I'll be disappointed if they do take one that early. A center or TE should be taken in the 2nd round, not the first. Mack, Unger, or Caldwell might all be there at pick 42 unless Pittsburgh picks one of them up at the end of the first.

I really think that they need to address either DE or OLB in the first.

  11. Leon Joe must not be answering his phone.

Yeah, KFC requires that you turn off your cell phone during your shift.

And I don't know what everyone's talking about as far as Thomas. His stats speak for himself. As far as I can remember, he's had a solid career with the Chiefs:

    Derrick Thomas
