  1. It took an other worldly performance by Jefferson.  Maybe the best by a WR I’ve ever seen.  You weren’t gonna stop him and the covereage wan’t bad at all.

All Lewis had to do is knock it down instead of going for the pick but when you’re down to your 5th Saftey, mistakes will happen.  That’s why you need a HC to make good decisions.

Clearly, this organization is not ready to fire McDermott.  Not yet.

But I have been saying, now going on 2 years, that SOME DAY Pegula is going to have to make a judgment on McDermott.  If the ring fails to materialize, at some point, Pegula will have to do something about it.

Where his personal breaking point is, I don't know.  And it's clear we're not at the point NOW.

But after another disappointing bow out of the playoffs?  Maybe in embarrassing fashion as we did last year?

Is that enough?  How about after 2 more playoff defeats?

McDermott should be REQUIRED to win a SB at some point, or pay for that failure with his job.

Anything less than that is amateur hour.

The key question is how many more chances?  This team is easily the most talented roster in the NFL but key players are getting older.  Josh is gonna age faster than pocket Qbs. Love him but he has no brakes and routinely puts himself in harm’s way. So if not this year you gotta realize that McD ain’t it, he’s Levy 2.0.

  3. A great RB didn’t lead us to a 17 point 3rd quarter lead today.  Were we the best team in the NFL last year with 13 seconds left and the same stable of RB’s?

Would a better RB be nice?  Sure,  but this team isn’t built on the running game or even offensive balance.  I think a better HC would matter more personally

  4. I’d take Edmunds over Oliver.  Edmunds has improved a ton this year and is integral to the pass defense. Oliver flashes a couple times a game but when he was out, it made no difference.  I don’t think Oliver is a JAG, but his size will always be an issue.  He doesn’t play with the crazy agility that makes smaller 3 Techs great - he’s more power. And he’s not long enough to dominate with power. Good player but some team will vastly overpay him.

If when McDermott retires he has a .668 win percentage, has taken the Bills to the playoffs 11 of 13 years, has brought us a championship and makes the Hall of Fame, Ill be super happy.  When did being like Tony Dungy become a bad thing?

There was a post here a few weeks ago asking if Bills fans expectations were too high.  I said no then.  I am officially changing my mind.

    So Marv Levy?  Great!

  6. Just now, Coach Tuesday said:

The problem is he’s basically unfireable unless they flame out for the next three years.  Ownership is weak and has zero track records.  In many ways McDermott has more power, albeit less authority, than Terry.

I don’t think he has any power.  I think Beane does and the only fault I can see Beane having is that he’s a little too loyal sometimes.  Not a bad thing in life but according to Bill Walsh and the coach with the most SBs in NFL history,  it will could cost you championships.  So unfortunately I think you’re right he won’t be fired unless there’s something behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

You're really oversimplifying winning games in the NFL.     You're also suggesting firing our current head coach, and bringing in another coach who has an almost identical career win percentage, has a lower percentage of playoff appearances vs years active, and has flamed out in the playoffs 9 out of 10 years he made it.  All this despite having a top ten all time Quarterback for most of those years.

Its easy to be short sighted after a loss but McDermott has been a fine coach for the BIlls.

How is seeing a pattern of these kinds of losses oversimplifying “winning in the NFL”.  Is there a more tired platitude than, “it tough to win in the NFL”?

How is 3 years of underachievement in 3 straight playoffs and the way we’re losing games this year short sighted”?  If anything 3 years is quite the sample set.  What happened at the end of the Houston game 3 years ago?  Did we even show up for the AFCG vs the Chiefs?

13 seconds?  Now let’s do this year.  The pattern is clear as day.  He’s Andy Reid with the Eagles.  Very good coach with an unbelievable knack for one side of the ball.  But ultimately a coach who will underachieve in big spots with the better team.

  8. McD is gonna squander all this talent.  3 years in a row he’s had us flame out in the playoffs.  This season is a perfect microcosm of his coaching.  Losing to inferior teams.  Losing with games in complete control.  Poor in game decisions.  And the most important one, he still doesn’t understand that his best player doesn’t how to regulate his play.  He’s like a ferrari with no breaks.   You need to control him through play calling (not neuter him), go for FGs and don’t make the whole team dependent on his play.  McD will never be a championship coach.  Great DB coach?  Yes.  Good coach?  Yes.  If the Bills don’t win the SB this year, go get Peyton.

  9. All of my buddies who moved into Buffalo to raise families are freaking out now.  Crime will undoubtedly go up even more and development will be stymied.

This is such a bummer.  It's unbelievable that anyone thinks Socialism is a good idea.  It's never been successful anywhere.   But I know, this time it will be different because a Nurse who is an intersectional dream will be the first.  Good luck Buffalo.

Harris and Etienne were gone 6 and 5 picks (respectively) before the Bills drafted.   Would you have advocated trading up for them?  After them, the only other RB getting hype was Williams, who was taken at 35, meaning the Bills would have had to take him at 30.  Would you have done/advocated that?

As for the RB room, I'm higher on Breida than most.  I don't care what he did with other teams and he'll be in a RBBC with the Bills.

I wouldn’t have traded up but those 3 RBs weren’t the only RBs in the draft.  Gainwell went in the 5th and is a really good receiver with speed.  Same goes for Carter who went in the 4th.   We don’t have speed in the backfield unless you’re thinking of Breida, who’s never been able to win a job against avg competition.

I’m content with the RB room.

    Singletary

    Moss

    Brieda

    A. Williams

    C. Wade

I’m sure a FA or two will be added. I haven’t gotten through the thread yet

That’s the most underwhelming list of running backs on any contender’s roster.  Brieda is fools gold who got beat out by an FA rookie.  Moss and Singletary lack explosion and are undersized power backs.  Williams and Wade are OBD legends who never will materialize.

While I don’t think it’s a pressing need, some balance on offense would certainly be great and would add an almost unstoppable dynamic to this offense.  McB’s Done a lot of great things here, but their RB evals have been really bad.

  12. wrong again. open side end means 4-3 DE that plays opposite side of the TE. shannon, just quit while you're way behind ok?

Yeah thanks, go back and read my original post. Like when I said FSU DEnds play at 9-11 about 100 posts ago. Why don't you post again so you can get up to 18 post per day.

  13. Thats because it doesn't reflect poorly on Brown in a 4-3 front like the Bills play. Shanahan was so quick to jump the gun to try to prove his point, that he didn't thoroughly comprehend what he read.

Why don't you read what I quoted and the context of the quote.

Another word for an open sided end is one dimensional.

Another quote taken out of context by you Maggy. I would have thought you would have been a little better at reading seeing that you post 17 times a day.

  14. In Pro Football Weekly today:

DE Everette Brown, Florida State (Jr.)

Questions still remain among the NFL scouting community about whether Brown is an elite talent. Some believe he is too stiff to be projected to rush linebacker and could not be more than an open-side end in the NFL, where his stock could be adversely affected because many fronts do not feature the position. However, much like Wimbley, no one is questioning his character, as Brown receives high marks for his work ethic, maturity and citizenship. His intelligence and approach in the classroom were given such high marks that he is viewed as being more intelligent than football-smart. Brown goes the extra mile to make a difference and can be expected to be a pillar of the community for the team that drafts him. Hailing from an unruly program known for its share of run-ins with the law, Brown stands out for his exceptionally strong character, warranting several votes for having the most rare character in this draft class.

HEY RAMIUS AND MAGOX, HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?

    Just to refresh your memories.

"wrote this before about FSU DE's, they have zero responibilities, they line up at 9-11 technique over the most open man and and get upfield. "

  15. gettin snippy are we?

I watch plenty of ACC football as I am Carolina Tarheel fan, so Saturday afternoons for me, it is all about ACC football, so I'm sure I watch more of it then you do.

You sir, are the king of generalizations. I loved the generalization you made regarding white guys with long hair the other day, remember that one? And Florida State DE's suck because of past performance and the system they play, remember that one too? These are your comments and you have to realize that it is hard to take anyone serious that makes these sort of generalizations. Makes sense?

All though Clemson lost 4 starters from the prior season, they still had a better offensive line than your run in the mill college football team.

The long hair thing/ stiff hips comment was a cheap shot at Poz and the fans infatuation with him. So the fact that you took that seriously makes you look very dumb.

And Yes, you will see a correlation between the FSU DEnds because Mickey Andrews has been the DC since the mid 80's. And if you don't think systems are part of the reason why college players have trouble with transitioning then again, you have no clue about football.

Did you read what you wrote, "Just because they lost 4 starters." Stop right there. CLemson was probably THE biggest dissapointment in college this year and their OLINE was the main reason for it.

I'm gald that you watch the Tar Heels play every Saturday. The ACC sucks so you're just used to watching sh*tty football. No bias though...

  16. LSU was ranked in the PRE SEASON TOP 10 as well, where did they wind up? Clemson sucked so bad that they got their coach fired mid season. Pre Season polls dont tell you much about a team.

You're not getting the point. LSU didn't do well, but they still had a lot of talent, just as Clemson did. Sure they did terrible by their standards, but you mention them like they are some Division III college talent. Let's be real here, LSU and Clemson failed and didn't live up to their expectations, but they were still better than most college teams. So like I said, it wasn't a good example.

If you paid attention to college football this year you would have known that Clemson's offensive line was notriously bad. Going into the season their Oline was looked at as their achillies heal and went on to prove it throughout the year. And Clemson was not very good this year but It sounds like you don't pay attention to college football.

"I think you have to look at the offensive line. Only one full-time starter - junior center Thomas Austin - returns from 2007. Beyond him, the line has nine starts of experience, seven from junior right guard Barry Humphries. Junior left guard Jamarcus Grant will be making his first career start and has only 86 snaps in his first two seasons. Can they protect Cullen Harper and open up holes for James Davis and C.J. Spiller? We'll see. (Quote from article below in August)

More Clemson Oline troubles from mid season

    http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=863509

My point was Brown got his sacks against some very bad teams with BAD OFFENSIVE LINES.

  17. May I remind you that Clemson going into last year was ranked in the top #20 in the nation in just about every preseason ranking and as high as #7 by espn #11 by SI .

when you mentioned Clemson earlier, it didn't make sense to me that you brought them up. The mention of Clemson is a supporting argument for Brown, not a detracting one.

  18. Thank you for showing that you know absolutely nothing about FSU's players or defense.

If anyone in this thread wants the info on brown, strengths and weaknesses, feel free to PM me.

This is a ridiculous reply. There is nothing in my post that is not dead on.

-Did he get 5 of his sacks against Chatenooga and Clemson, who's OLine was being blasted going all the way back to there ptiful spring game? YES

-Did he get a sack against any other ranked team besides Va Tech? NO

-Do FSU D Ends line up outside of the open man and play with zero responsibilty? YES

Just because you are a FSU Superfan doesn't mean that you have a clue what is going on during the games. Please tell me where I am wrong and please be specific.

  19. The FSU lineage scares me. He also puffed up his stats against bad Olines. He had 2 sacks against Cattanooga. 3 against Clemson who had a notoriusly bad Oline. Only 3 of his sacks, all in one game (Va Tech), came against ranked teams. I wrote this before about FSU DE's, they have zero responibilities, they line up at 9-11 technique over the most open man and and get upfield. This is why teams run counters all day against the Noles. Very similar to what the Pats did to us two years ago. No thanks, I'd rather have Maybin. He plays with a mean streak and has and unreal first step.

  20. So is using sacks as the be all end all stat for DEs. :(

In this type of defense, yes sacks are pretty much the end all be all. If the sacks are there, then the pressure are there and thats where turnovers happen. Kelsay is one of the worst pass rushers that I have ever seen. He has no speed and absolutely no counter moves. He gives the Bills zero on pass plays.

  21. Seriously, i'm so sick of people bring up race. It's beyond pathetic and shows a lack of intelligence on your part.

I'm not a fan of Cushing because I don't think he is a special type of LB to warn that high of a selection. i also am very wary of USC players because they have been big time busts at the next level recently. It's a lot easier to shine when surround by blue chippers.

But if you're dismissing a player because of their race, you are an idiot pure and simple.

Why don't you go back and read the post dummy. No where in my post did I say that we shouldnt draft a white guy you overreacting douche. I said we need a pure pass rusher and Brian Cushing is a long-haired white guy with stiff hips and a 3-4 sack per year potential who is not worthy of the 11th pick. Is that racist?

  22. This is a really sad story. Although I do agree with H2O, TM has to get over it and move on. That being said, I know what can happen to a young kid that is being pushed so hard. I've seen with teammates and and as a coach. My brother has completely ruined my neice who is an absolute all star pitcher. Her identity is softball and thats about it. She has trouble relating to kids at school and she is pretty much an emotional void. It's sad but it is a good lesson for all of the parents out there to remember, it's your kid on the field, not you.
