So, I hear this over and over again, and I'm wondering how much truth there is to it. Drafted players by position since 2006 (Jauron's 1st year as head coach.) Year Round Player Position 2008 4 Reggie Corner CB 2009 6 Cary Harris CB 2009 7 Ellis Lankster CB 2008 1 Leodis McKelvin CB 2008 7 Kennard Cox CB 2006 3 Ashton Youboty CB 2006 1 Donte Whitner SS 2007 6 John Wendling SS 2009 2 Jairus Byrd FS 2006 4 Ko Simpson FS 2008 7 Demetrius Bell T 2006 5 Brad Butler T 2006 7 Terrance Pennington T 2009 1 Eric Wood G 2009 2 Andy Levitre G 2006 7 Aaron Merz G 2006 1 John McCargo DT 2006 5 Kyle Williams DT 2009 1 Aaron Maybin DE 2008 3 Chris Ellis DE 2007 7 C.J. Ah You DE 2008 6 Xavier Omon RB 2007 1 Marshawn Lynch RB 2007 4 Dwayne Wright RB 2007 7 Derek Schouman TE 2009 4 Shawn Nelson TE 2008 4 Derek Fine TE 2008 2 James Hardy WR 2008 7 Steve Johnson WR 2007 3 Trent Edwards QB 2008 5 Alvin Bowen OLB 2006 6 Keith Ellison OLB 2009 5 Nic Harris OLB 2007 2 Paul Posluszny MLB 1st day defensive backs (Rounds 1-3): 4 2nd day defensive backs (Rounds 4-7): 6 Total DBs: 10 1st day OL: 2 2nd day OL: 4 Total OL: 6 1st day DL: 3 2nd day DL: 2 Total DL: 5 Some added context; we took a huge hit with the drafting of Mike Williams in 2002, and I can see why the FO may have been hesitant to draft lineman high after that debacle. We also spent more money on veterans playing the OL and DL during these years, with big contracts going to Marcus Stroud, Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker, and decent contracts going to Peters, Triplett, Fowler, Denney, and Kelsay. Since CBs have been getting premium money in Free Agency, one can see why the Bills have opted to use draft picks on defensive backs while spending money on the OL and DL on veteran players. After putting this together, my first thought is that it's not necessarily that we're drafting (and signing) the wrong positions, but unfortunately, too often the wrong players. And I also realize that the draft seems to be a crapshoot, with very few organizations being able to consistently pick well, but without this happening, we don't have much chance of turning things around. I know this isn't by any means a complete analysis, and it would be interesting to see what more successful teams have done in the same period, although they have the benefit of not having to rebuild pretty much from scratch during this time.

Is anyone comparing Donte to Ed Reed, other than you? He doesn't have to be a pro bowler to be a good player, and if he can play FS and SS, and Scott can only play SS, then it makes sense to move him.
-
Scott and Whitner are both on the field because they are our two best options right now. Scott is at FS because he can't really play SS. Once Byrd is ready to start, Donte will most likely move back to SS, Byrd will play FS, and Scott will ride the bench. Whitner's being moved because it gives the team the best chance to win, it's not a knock on him.

Thanks Dr.

How about using James Hardy as an example. Sounds like TO is getting the same treatment as the bum whose number he took.

I get your point, but you should check your math. $292,500,000 + $100,000 =$292,600,000

I was thinking the same thing. Don't need any smoke related injuries. -

John, did you see that Hitler / TO video? -
You're right, I was focusing on the players. Not sure what your complaint is, or still why you expected anything more from Seth McKinney.
-
No, he called his glasses Ray, I think...
-
Hmm, sounds like 2 QBs we already have on the roster with initials TE and RF. "Looked good a lot of times" = played like enough to lose.
-
You know, Ray Orbison wasn't blind. He just liked those glasses.
-
TO is to Seth McKinney as Lee Evans is to Duke Preston. Geez, why didn't I think of that.
-
He's been in the league for eight years, which for a lineman means he is most likely on the downside of his career. He was a starter for some pretty bad Miami teams in 04-05 and half a season in Cleveland in 07. He was a backup for Cleveland last year. So yeah, that's just like saying Lee Evans is like TO (if TO had been a backup for the Browns last season....) http://www.nfl.com/players/sethmckinney/profile?id=MCK507237

With the exception of started for a couple different teams (he had only started for us), and the fact that he has only been in the league 4 years instead of 8, this sounds again like you're talking about Duke Preston. Not sure why your expectations were any higher. He's a backup lineman. He was a free agent last year; if he was good enough to go somewhere and start (e.g. Hangartner) he would have done so.
-
You mean an 8 year veteran who was not retained by his last team? What exactly were you expecting? Duke Preston?

2010 HOFer Andre Reed

Thurman Thomas, James Lofton, and Don Beebe had something to do with that. But I agree that Andre should be in. -
Ok, this seems like a great alternative to Directv

That's the gist(sp?) of it yes. It could probably be done in a way that would pass muster with the board, but the landlord didn't want to deal with it, and it being his building, I'm ok with that. Like I said, they've been really good to us and it's just not worth fighting over. -

In your area, maybe the cable company is the better option. It's not that way for everyone. And it's nice that most people now have an alternative. In my last apartment, I had DirecTV and it was great. Great service, more channels than my local cable company, and very similar in price. And the option to have Sunday Ticket, yes. -
So you're just waiting for the team to move?

Yeah, and unfortunately it happens far too often across the league, coaches coming in an cleaning house. It's seen as kind of a per, being able to hand jobs to all the guys that helped you along the way. Fortunately for Rusty, he was able to move on; hopefully he was better compensated after leaving the Bills.
