  1. Rather than thumb through 32 media guides, I happen to have a stack in front of me on my desk. Let's take a sampling .. Ravens director of college scouting Eric DeCosta lives in Baltimore ... Jets vice president of college scouting Joey Clinkscales lives in Memphis ... Titans senior supervisor of national college scouting (that's a mouthful) C.J. Brocato lives in Arlington, Texas ... Dolphins director of college scouting Chris Grier lives in Weston, Fla. ... Steelers coordinator of college scouting Ron Hughes lives in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. ... Chargers director of college scouting is a Spanos and Giants director of player evaluation is a Mara, so they don't count ... Colts, Cardinals and Browns don't have directors of college scouting or similar titles ... Raiders don't list hometowns ... Patriots don't list hometowns and don't really have a college scouting director, but I think Floyd Reese is staying in Nashville ...
  2. All of the draft evaluators I have spoken to say center or guard would be a slight reach even at the back end of the first round, but if you're picking there, you're probably a good team. And if a team anywhere from about No. 25 and beyond wanted a center or guard, then it's appropriate to take one to fill the need.
  3. Believe it or not, top-shelf tequilas are being evaluated more like fine wines these days. There's some great stuff out there. It's not for shots anymore. Although it still works for that, too.
  4. Happy to do it, abqmarko. 1) Not a big deal at all. The guy's job is to scout college talent. Over the course of a calendar year, he's on the road more than he's at home. The Jets' top guy, for instance, lives in Memphis. Modrak spends a lot of time in Orchard Park as it is, but if he's needed for consultation on short notice, that can be done over the phone. He doesn't need to be breaking down film at the facility to get his job done, just like I don't need to be in Bristol, Conn., to work for ESPN. I've been there once in my life. My job is in Orchard Park, Foxborough, East Rutherford and Davie. Modrak's job is across the country. It shouldn't matter where he lives. 2) I'm not speaking from insider knowledge on what their draft board looks like at the moment, but second or third round would be appropriate. There's nobody worth taking in the first round at those positions.
  5. Here's the series: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation?tag=on%20the%20clock
  6. The Bills haven't been "On the clock" yet. We're running a series in reverse order from No. 32 to No. 1. The Jets ran this morning at No. 17. In six days, you'll have a poll question. Prior to this morning, there were only Dolphins and Patriots questions. A week ago, there was only a Dolphins question.
  7. That's a helluva question. And I'm stumped for an answer. I think they winged it.
  8. Once or twice (he writes sheepishly). I think I actually like Don Julio better. I like the oak finish.
  9. My call came from a member of the local sports community, who was at HSBC Arena.
  10. I didn't get the signal, but my first thought was to come here and let you know as soon as I got confirmation.
  11. What I know about Losman is that he will be waiting until after the draft to sign because he doesn't want to go to a team that drafts another QB. He wants to know exactly what the competition will be when he signs.
  12. Confirmed to me by the Bills as totally false.
  13. The Jason Taylor to the Patriots report was written by Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports. The Julius Peppers to the Patriots report was written by Vic Carucci of the NFL Network. But we at ESPN appreciate you automatically thinking that every report comes from us. It's all part of our plan to take over the world.
  14. I can't divulge right now, but you'll see some of the information come out as I write about various subjects in the coming days. Now that I'm back home, I need to make some follow up calls to check out some of the info I've gathered this week.
  15. I do know from a conversation I had this week at the owners meetings that the Bills are dealing with Eugene Parker on the Jason Peters' situation. But Vincent Taylor is listed with the NFLPA as Peters' official agent of record. I think it's an arranged co-agent relationship.
  16. Believe it or not, Tony Gonzalez and I were at the same hotel yesterday, but I didn't approach him because he was spending quiet time with friends. Although I did observe for a while in hopes the luncheon broke up or he excused himself. I would have asked him about the Bills. Anyway, I generally let guys have their privacy in situations like that. Do the Bills make another play for him? I could see it. Tight end might be their No. 1 remaining priority.
  17. I'm sorry, but when a guy wants to make it personal and starting hinting he knows something negative about me, I think he should be obligated to serve it up -- under his real name.
  18. When I posted those links I explicitly noted that I wouldn't touch it. So I don't consider it journalism, but you obviously ignored that part of my post. If I thought the Dirty was legit, I would have written about it on Monday ... or Tuesday ... or yesterday ... or today. I haven't done so, have I? No, I haven't. As for my Las Vegas work experience, I'd be interested in hearing about that. Please clarify for everyone, or feel free to drop me a PM and I'll set up a time when we can discuss what you think you know about me rather than recklessly insinuating you have some ambiguous information that pertains to my personal life while under the cloak of anonymity. That's a douchebag move on your part. So please follow through and share with everybody what you've concocted in your head as an attempt to discredit me on a Buffalo Bills message board, of all places.
  19. It's one thing to take an educated shot at me. But to call me out for being a T.O. hater and then wondering if I've written anything positive about him shows you haven't read my blog much. I spent four days in Buffalo recently speaking to the mayor, Thurman Thomas and fans ... all of them loved the signing. So did Michael Irvin and Marcellus Wiley. All were quoted extensively. I would say these are positive articles I've written about T.O. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...&id=3976473 http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-37/...ded-target.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-38/...bout-Bills.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-39/...-for-Bills.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-96/...alo-s-risk.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-80/...f-approval.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-42/...eed-Owens-.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-111...t-working-.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-48/...al--Part-2.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-41/...al--Part-1.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-46/...rell-Owens.html http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-47/...t-problems.html
  20. This is hilarious because I love T.O. I love characters. I love Jeremy Roenick. I love Joey Porter. I love Ricky Williams. I love Rob Ray. I love Brett Favre. I love Manny Ramirez. They make my job interesting. Why on earth would you think I don't like T.O.? But I can see based on this post that you jump to a lot of conclusions. You use quotes in saying that I have conveyed "I was too busy to write." Too busy to write what, exactly? I've never even used that phrase in this thread much less expressed that thought. I did report on T.O. missing workouts because I had new information in comments from Dick Jauron that Jauron gave me here at the owners' meetings. I don't have a quote from Dick Jauron on the Alzheimer's function because I haven't seen him today. Yesterday was AFC coaches. Today was NFC coaches. And the meetings ended today. Everybody has gone home. "The AP writes he's in DC tonight and thus has an excuse." Apparently that's good enough for you. Fine. You're set in your opinion. Thanks for sharing it, but I'm not going to defend myself to someone who starts the debate off with a misconception. I don't dislike T.O. People like him are the reason people like you want to have conversations with people like me about subjects like this. And that's why sports are fun and why I want to do what I do for a living.
  21. The difference was 90 minutes, not 90 days. I'm sure when the Associated Press sent out the story that T.O. didn't attend the workout on Monday, the delay was about the same between the time it went out on the wire and the time it appeared on our site.
  22. No reason to get combative. This "media type" doesn't give a damn if Terrell Owens attends or not. I haven't passed a single word of judgment on where Owens is or what he's doing. All I've done is provided comments from the Bills about their reaction to him not attending. What we're instructed to write about is what fans care about. We go by hits and comments. This topic has been among the most popular on ESPN.com according to the numbers, so the fact you find this subject matter not worthy of your time, well, I'm sorry. You're outnumbered. By a lot. And I believe the Buffalo News, the Associated Press and the NFL Network were the first to produce reports that Owens didn't attend, not ESPN.com. I didn't report a word of it until I spoke to Dick Jauron several hours after the fact.
  23. And one more thing: If this is the reason why Owens didn't attend the start of the offseason conditioning program on Monday, then why didn't the Bills say so? The Bills PR staff oversaw all interviews in Orchard Park on Monday, and not one player or the strength and conditioning coach made a point to mention the Alzheimer's function when asked about Owens' absence. Allen Wilson and I each personally spoke to Dick Jauron on Monday and Tuesday and Jauron never mentioned it. The NFL Network spoke to Jauron about it on Tuesday while I was sitting right next to him. Jauron didn't mention it then, either. That wasn't the reason Owens didn't attend.
  24. We don't have editors constantly Googling the names of every NFL player in search of news. When it comes across the wire in Bristol, Conn., it is formatted for our site, it's edited for content, a headline is put on it, a photo often is inserted and it's posted on the site. That takes time, especially when ESPN receives literally hundreds of stories over its wires every hour. Other sites can post faster because they have a computer formatting it and don't add photos, hyperlinks, etc. So if you're offended that ESPN had its story posted a whole 90 minutes after the one you found, I would stop to consider how much works goes into the presentation of a site such as ESPN.com over WQOV television in Eau Claire, Wisc. The ESPN.com version has accompanying video, a photo and hyperlinks all over the place. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4014732 http://www.wqow.com/Global/story.asp?S=10068257 And I will say this: The lead on the AP story is misleading. Terrell Owens had no trouble spending his time clubbing on South Beach over the weekend. There are plenty of flights to and from Washington D.C. every day. The offseason program began on Monday. This Alzheimer's charity, as admirable as it may be, is not the reason he wasn't in Buffalo for the start of the conditioning program. If you want to believe that, then that's your option. But if you're expecting an apology for getting the story wrong on Monday, it's not forthcoming. He still could have been there if he wanted to be.
