  1. Other teams were interested, but I don't know what the offers were at this time.
  2. Teams have different policies on things like this. The Redskins, for example, are very liberal because Dan Snyder is big on blogging. I'm not sure what the Bills' policy is, but based on anecdotal evidence over the years, I would predict they would not be willing to try something like this (and I'm sure they would be in the majority among the 32 teams). Some newspapers have trouble getting credentials because of space considerations in the press box and the media center.
  3. Take off the last three words and you'd have another true statement.
  4. I don't know if I can cull together enough responses for a Peters reaction blog. I think that's one of the drawbacks of being on The Stadium Wall, all the comments take place here and not at my blog.
  5. I would NEVER say that like it was a bad thing. I'm actually trying to put together a blog of Peters trade reaction sent to my AFC East mailbag. The responses have been passionate but not plentiful.
  6. My first newspaper assignment was covering an all-day tee-ball tournament in rural Ohio for a paper smaller than the Lockport Journal. I think my hourly wage worked out to be about $2.47 that day. The absolute ground floor is where 95 percent of all sportswriters start. Some young superstars emerge from journalism schools and big-time internships before graduation and land at a major metro paper, but that's rare. On-line publishers are getting their writers from newspapers. My advice would be to take that mailboy-level newspaper job and keep climbing the ladder. Don't think twice about moving across the country for another position that builds your career. If you insist on finding work in one place or refuse to leave a certain region, then you're not giving yourself a legitimate chance.
  7. Perhaps you're a contrarian.
  8. I'm pretty sure there was a V8 version. Then again my uncle drank a lot.
  9. Both left tackles in this year's Super Bowl might not start for a third of the teams in the league. Maybe the Giants were going to send Diehl to Buffalo.
  10. I know that the Taurus SHO, which went out of production in 1999 or 2000, was a badass car. I have an uncle who worked at the Ford assembly plant in Cleveland, and he said it was the most powerful model he's ever driven. I guess the V8 engine in that thing (they had them specially made in Japan by Yamaha or Toyota) put police cruisers to shame. He told me that in tests one year they tried to max it out on the track and the body blew apart before they could reach the top-end. With that, I have exhausted all of my car knowledge. I can change a tire and fill the gas tank. That's about it. But Tauruses were very roomy sedans before they were shrunk. My dad owned three of them (the base model, not the SHO), and I could see if it were black and had tinted windows, it could pass as chauffeur-worthy without many giggles. But it sure does sound tacky.
  11. I'm sure Peters' contract details will start to trickle out once the contract is registered with the NFLPA. I doubt Ford would be the most popular make in the One Bills Drive parking lot (not counting the media section).
  12. I haven't heard about the Henderson rumor, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to it. If I hear anything more, I'll let you know.
  13. I don't have the breakdown, but just looking at his salary, it probably won't make much difference at all in terms of dead money. The Bills are way under the cap anyway.
  14. If you found out what I drove, it might undercut my credibility. But three more months and it's paid for. And I highly recommend Towne Ford in Orchard Park.
  15. My internal clock usually starts wearing out around 3 or 4 in the morning. I'm usually up until then, trying to get work done for the next day. Or playing internet poker.
  16. I was told there were as many as three other teams interested to varying degrees. But the only other team I know of was the one I reported yesterday: the Giants.
  17. Not sure, and it might not be conditional at all anymore. That pick still was being haggled over when the story broke this afternoon. The 28th and the fourth were certain, but the extra 2010 pick was a little up in the air. It might have settled in at a sixth rounder without conditions. I'm still trying to get that confirmed.
  18. Sixth rounder
  19. Brandon made those comments on Wednesday afternoon, and this trade came together Thursday night. And I hate to quibble, but reporting Brandon's comments for readers to absorb doesn't constitute "falling for a lie" in my book.
  20. I want to see what the Bills do in the draft first.
  21. Six years, $60 million Almost $25 million in guarantees In terms of new money (because he was under contract for two years) it's four years at $53 million.
  22. I don't see how we disagree.
  23. Mine was canceled because I was supposed to be on assignment today. Then the assignment got canceled because of the Peters trade.
  24. The uncapped year will have us all confused quite soon.
  25. You're comparing apples and grapefruits. The Bills had a player under contract and were willing to give him a raise, but not the moon. Peters was holding them hostage. The Bills had principles to adhere to, and I don't think they should be faulted for that. Plus, the Eagles do have cap issues, and they're creating some problems in negotiations as we speak. The deal will get done, but it's not like the Eagles had all sorts of flexibility. The Bills have a ton of cap room. They just don't use it.
