  1. This team is what the Quarterback play is. The Quarterback played well in seven wins, the Quarterback played bad in eight losses. The Defense was terrible in the Arizona game, second half of the first Dolphins and Jets game, and could not get off the field against the Patriots. Because Bill Walsh said Edwards will be great, nothing will be done with Edwards. Therefore, the first four picks in the draft will be defensive players, along with at least one good defensive free agent pickup.

football is won with defense and at the line of scrimmage.

  2. Let's examine this from Jason Peters perspective.... He wants a new contract or fat extension, so what are his options? His ONLY option is another holdout, and frankly he is stuck in quicksand again because the Buffalo Bills made him "happy" once upon a time 3 years ago! The prevailing sentiment at One Bills Drive is that they don't have to pay Peters a nickel until he proves that he is willing to play first, then negotiate when he's in camp. The Bills said this all along during OTA's, camp, and just prior to the regular season. Who won? The Bills gained the upper hand because another lengthy holdout, this year, will undoubtedly cause the two sides to really entrench themselves and in that scenario no one wins!! The other factor Jason better come to grips with is that Walter Jones got franchised something like 5 times by the Seahawks, so the Bills really have quite the hammer in any further ploys Jasons' people might come up with. The final bit of the equation is that Peters proved that his own self-motivation to stay in shape during a holdout was next to nonexistant! It's his career, let's see if he's smart enough to report and play for his pay this offseason. My personal response would be no to the likelihood.....

Peters and Lynch are the two best players an offense and you morons are talking about getting rid of one of them. the problem could have been fixed last winter by paying the guy, but they'd rather lock up crappy football players like schobel and kelsay. remember one thing Lombardi always said "there's no substitute for talent"

  3. No. 1 Poz has only played just over a full season now. This is essentially his rookie season.

No. 2 A MLB can only excel when the DTs do their job (not really this season). We don't really have a good sub for him on obvious pass plays either

No. 3 With some decent help on the OLB position, he can do more (team game and all)

Notice how bad things got when Whitner went out. This guy is for real in his second year. A star? Probably not, but no need to replace him.

My question is about Lee Evans. I'm told every day that he is a star, but don't star receivers get open SOMETIMES? I suspect the play designs and WR coaching have something to do with this since NO ONE ever gets open downfield. I'm not going to put Evans' number on the Wall until him find a way to get open.

I like Lynch better lately since he gave up his dance routine.

Edwards might still be good. A good line can make all the difference. I'm troubled by his arm though. I haven't seen the Bills stretch the field in ages.

BTW we did address the TE position a few years ago. Unfortunately Everett got hurt twice. I would have loved to see what he could do.

DE in the first round (a scary one, please!) and OL for the next 2 picks. Sometimes drafting the best player on the board leaves far too many holes and those players can't excel w/o the foundation of good lines.

Poz sucks, he's too slow and too weak

  4. Personally .. i think this team has playoff-caliber talent.

Especially when you stack this team up player for player with other playoff contending teams.

There are plenty of issues .. but a lack of talent is not one of them IMO

you're kidding right. how can you say they stack up against the giants or steelers. we have one of the softest defenses I've ever seen in Buffalo

  5. Sorry, hyperventilating prose notwithstanding, you are off base. Does defense win championships? Sure it does, though it helps to score more points than the other side. The Bills stifled Brett and the Farts in the second half, and were brought down by their offensive play calling and QB. The Dolphins only scored 16 points; the Cleveland game came down to a made 55-yard and missed 48-yard field goal.

The Bills D has weaknesses, as do many other defenses. But pretending that they are the worst in the league only reflects the kind of bizarre reverse narcissism that has infected this board over the past few weeks.

watching pennington carry poz on his back last week made me realize that aside from stroud and mcgee, the defense needs to be completely rebuilt and the head coach replaced

  6. He's not interested in actual discussion... this was another one in a series of LAMPs in which people go out of their way to say how bad the Bills are, how they will always be bad, etc. etc. Must be some sort of catharsis thing.

I haven't seen such overheated hate for a team from its fans since the Sabres adopted the Slug.

the actual point is that even if they had a good quarterback, the defense sucks, plays with no intensity, and tackles like girls. and in case you haven't figured it out yet, defense wins playoff games and championships. and by the way, the defense was great aginst miami and cleveland NOT!!!!

  7. And by the way, we'd win plenty of games with either Manning.

Just reference the first batch of games. When Trent had his head on straight and was making plays, our team was totally different. Granted the competition was weaker but when the quarterback is competent, you have a much greater chance of winning. Even with one of the worst possible options yesterday (JP), we still almost won. Don't tell me Manning wouldn't have won that game.

you're right, the competition was weaker. the jets would've score 50 yesterday if favre hadn't been throwing so bad. watch the giants, steelers, cowboys, and ravens play defense, even if we had those injured players back, our defense would look nothing like them

  8. We traded our first round pick to get Rob Johnson and the Jags took Fred Taylor.............nice!

We traded a first rounder to get "statue of liberty" Bledsoe and look where that took us.

We traded a first rounder to get J.P. Losman and he can't even complete a pass of more then 10 yards (unless its the opponent) and his pocket presence along with ball security are quite comical.

Then, this year, we focus so much on getting size at the WR position we take a high draft pick on a WR from the University of Indiana (never known to produce any kind of receivers unless your Randle El) when we had Eddie Royal (Virginia Tech) and Desean Jackson (Cal) sitting there for the taking. I can remember Jerry Rice saying BEFORE the draft that he had been working out with Jackson and he was going to be awesome. One of the guys from my wedding party down here in Northern Virginia coached Eddie Royal at Westfield H.S. and followed his career at Va. TEch and said the kid was unbelievable and couldn't even believe he lasted so long into the 2nd round of the draft.

As far is James Hardy is concerrned, who cares about size if they can't get in and out of their cuts fast (looks real slow), can't run NFL Routes effectively, and has average hands at best. SPEED AND QUICKNESS KILLS AND WE PASSED ON IT FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING SIZE MANDATORY FOR OUR TEAM NEEDS AT A CRITICAL POSITION FOR OUR OFFENSE.

I know this is all hindsight talk but it just pisses me off that the average Bills fan could have done better with alot of these draft day decisions. I say this because I hear all the draft day chatter on this board and we all tend to think similar. The Bills organization continues to do these ridiculous things and it continually sets back our franchise hence the reason why we can never improve and (or) take the next step towards a playoff birth. I'm still wondering how long it is going to take before the Bills also realize that our offense still lacks a top notch TE and our offense is in desperate need of one (for years now).

our offense makes evans look like a hack, how is hardy supposed to do any better

  9. bandit, you're right, I wasn't specific enough. Those teams were indeed better, all around - I had both of their rookie seasons in mind, not their second, and comparing them to Edwards stats this year, his first as a starter from the beginning. So not a very clean comparison on my part.

Nevertheless...Edwards' struggles have come against 34 defenses only...that's where his study should focus. It doesn't help him that we have a first-year coordinator who is learning on the job. He's going to be a good one. It's not his fault that the Bills have sucked for years and fans have grown so impatient.

are you edwards mom, because edwards sucks and he'll never be an nfl quarterback

  10. Easy answer to this thread starter: He's better than Losman, and has shown more in his first two years than many of today's best in their first two years, both Mannings included.

Trent needs to focus his attention on parsing the 34 defense this offseason. When he can read that scheme on the fly and make adjustments that the coaches can't due to the expiration of the headset mike (most defensive alignment changes and cues come in this period, forcing QBs to make the decisions) then I believe he'll be a top 10 QB in the league, and someone we'll be very proud of.

Losman will remain Losman. I believe we've already seen his ceiling, and it's not high enough to ever be a starter in this league. He will be a career backup - I'll take any wager on that.

Losmans leaving at the end of the season, so who cares. good thing the bills aren't playing at rich stadium today and edwards starting, because his arm would never be able to throw in this wind because he sucks
