Move Maybin to OLB or bust.

Recommended Posts

I hated the Maybin pick, but you people are unbelievable. He's not even half way through his first season and you're already referring to him as a bust. Maybin is a project, which is why I didn't want him. He's going to need at LEAST a year to develop after starting only ONE full season in college. I don't think we'll see ANY impact from him for at least two years.

6 games and calling him a bust....

Couldn't you have made this point without the stupid "or bust" in the title? What the !@#$ is the point of that?

Maybin will really have to bulk up to be a successful DE in the National Football League in my opinion. Considering the title to this thread may have some validity I'm not sure I would call it stupid because LB may be the only alternative.

this is getting annoying. Can we please have an official maybin is a bust thread?

Speaking of busts,

Will you please uncover your avatar, come on, some of these guys around here are walking porno shows.

You ruined the best avatar on TSW.

Sorry, had to get it out of my system :wallbash:

I disagree............... I think that people here are very believable

I was also not high on the Maybin pick... I wanted B-lo to trade up with Oakland. Then Al could have had his coveted bust of a receiver at a more resonable price and we would have had our shot at Raji who reminded me of a cross between Sapp (who I admired as a player, but hated everything else about him) and our dearly departed Pat Williams.

All that being said, it is way too early to be throwing around the bust label. The kid definately needs to get stronger - I don't know if that means bulking up where he could lose some speed, or simply hitting the weight room and working on techniques for shedding blockers.

It would be nice to see a flash of his touted potential now and then on obvious passing downs, but why anyone would pass on those 3rd and long situations when we are giving up around 400 yards on the ground is beyond me.

"Have some validity"? It's an opinion - therefore, there's nothing valid about it. As the saying goes, opinions are like !@#$s...

And we know he has to bulk up. He will. He's TWENTY YEARS OLD.

Keep up the good fight brother - I am in your camp as I think it's painfully obvious he is too lean to play the DE position with any regularity. As a hybrid rushing LB, maybe there is some hope. Anyway, take your lumps and stay true to your convictions - Maybin will turn out as bad as Mike Williams or Erik Flowers for us....

I think as a pass rushing DE he's already a bust. 6 games, 3 tackles, 0 sacks and he's already made 1.9 Million (38% of $5m). I think he would be an instant threat at OLB. At least as good as the current OLB's.

Amen - meanwhile, on the Orakpo front, I think his stats yesterday alone eclipsed what the hopeless tweener Maybn has done all year. While I am at it, I believe history will show Anthony Hargrove to be a better NFL defensive end than Maybin will ever hope to be....

If you insist on calling Maybin a bust after limited playing-time in 6 games after missing most if not all of all of training camp, you may set a new low for this board.

Furthermore, I hear the Bills will have a new coaching staff next year. Perhaps you can put your resume together and get hired as the linebackers coach since you seem to have a very strong opinion.

I actually think he's a great player, but the whole scheme is flawed. Teams know this is the guy that rushes on 3rd down and they either pick up the blitz or they run right at him for 1st downs. Linebacker was supposed to be Maybin's other option on draft day, and now that Mitchell's injured, it's time to move him.

Anybody that thought Maybin would actually have an impact this season is a fool.

And for those saying he is too small to EVER be a DE is also a fool, Michael Strahan played at 255lb and was 6-5. However, its going to take Maybin time to gain more playing weight and get used to it. He's only 21 for crying out loud.

Hence, why I didn't want to draft him as we needed an immediate impact player.

Pretty much nailed it and the front office in a single sentence. Nice work.

I'm sure they thought they were getting a Dwight Freeney clone here. A couple problems with that. Freeney (and the entire Colts defense) is immensely aided by having Peyton Manning and an offense than can explode on people. Second, Maybin is not the same type of player as Freeney. Maybin has great quick twitch and can get out of a stance sudden. But after that he seems very limited. In the game yesterday, he either ran straight up the field past the play or was swallowed whole at the LOS. Freeney has great hands, multiple moves, true speed, and a great first step.

It really looks like Maybin's gonna keep getting shut down all year so why not give him a chance at linebacker? At least he has speed to chase guys down and maybe prevent all these 30+ yard runs and he can still blitz at random and get actual sacks. Seems like a no-brainer.

You are an absolute MORON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
