Tough day for Russ. Fresh from denying that there was ever a halftime ceremony scheduled for Ralph ("the Yankee imperialists have not 'taken Basra' -- they are being overrun by the valiant Republican Guard as we speak!"), and busy dodging questions about the future of his head coach ("his excellency the president is not 'on the run' -- he's . . . vacationing in Tikrit), his outfit has shut down the official buffalobills.com message boards.

This is not a healthy franchise.

You have to have a log in to view now. Plenty of old posts this week regarding this.

And the best part is, there's only 11 games left. What are they going to do for the remaining 4 home games in Buffalo?

This is like TD's last few home games in 2005: an outright revolt. Maybe they'll start confiscating signs as well, because I saw a few today.

Just getting home -- he didn't really say that, did he? If so, he's lying through his teeth:

ProFootballHOF.com: Ralph Wilson to get HOF ring Sunday

10/07/2009

Buffalo Bills owner and Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2009 enshrinee Ralph Wilson, Jr. will be heralded by fans on Sunday at the stadium that bears his name.

Pro Football Hall of Fame President/Executive Director Steve Perry will be on hand for a special presentation at halftime of the Bills-Browns game at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Perry will present Wilson with his Hall of Fame ring.

The ring is the third and final iconic symbol representing Wilson’s election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The only owner that the Bills have known was elected to the Hall of Fame on the day before Super Bowl XLIII and formally enshrined into the Hall of Fame in Canton during ceremonies held in early August. Wilson received his gold Hall of Fame jacket at the annual Enshrinees Dinner held on the eve of his induction. His bronze bust was unveiled at the enshrinement ceremony the following day.

Wilson is one of just 18 contributors among the 253 individuals enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Seven other long-time members of the Bills, the team he founded in 1959, have earned election to the Hall. The other Bills enshrined in Canton include guards Joe DeLamielleure and Billy Shaw, quarterback Jim Kelly, coach Marv Levy, running backs O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas, and defensive end Bruce Smith. Wide receiver James Lofton played four of his 16 NFL seasons in Buffalo.

Brandon told GR that he "knew nothing" about the allegedly scheduled ceremony.

Either lying or clueless, take your pick. From the Buffalo News Billboard blog, with a nice slam or two included:

Ralph's Non-Ceremony

Bills owner Ralph Wilson decided late last week that he didn't want to take part in a planned halftime ceremony to present him with his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring. Joe Horrigan, the vice president of communications for the Hall of Fame, confirmed that in a phone call with the News after the game.

"Friday morning, we got a call from Marc Honan (the Bills' VP of marketing and broadcasting), saying Ralph was not feeling up to doing it and that we would reschedule," Horrigan said.

Unfortunately, the Bills never informed the media of Wilson's decision. Nor did the Hall of Fame remove a story from its website, announcing the ceremony. The Hall of Fame story was still up as the lead story on the website at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The halftime ceremony was a point of discussion on chat rooms and in the local media all week. The Hall of Fame's story first appeared on its web site on Wednesday. All in all, a pretty weak communications effort by both the Hall of Fame and the Bills, who certainly had enough time to inform the media that Wilson would not receive the ring at halftime.

And you wonder why the team can't get a play off in time.
