I am convinced Buffalo had its best draft in 25 years

Recommended Posts

Yes I do realize it's too early to rate your drafted players and it might take 3 years to accurately grade the Bills 2009 draft.

I have a very long history of being over critical of Buffalo's draft selections, but I can't remember a draft that has as many potential starters.

Since I have always been so critical of the Bills drafts in the past, I thought I would take the time to congratulate the scouting staff, Tom Modrak and Russ Brandon for an excellent draft (in my opinion.) Some of these guys will be competing for starting jobs in a month or two.

God, I hope so. I'm very optimistic about the draft, but not the season.

I think Shawn Nelson will be even better than he was in college, since many of Nelson's catches were on badly thrown balls. I have never seen so many times where a receiver was so mis-led.

It is quite possible that, within a year, 6 starters will come from this one draft.

I still can't believe Jarius Byrd and Shawn Nelson slipped to the later rounds.

Eric Wood and Levitre were steals in my book.

How about just 2 years ago? Starting RB (Lynch), QB (Edwards) the two most important offensive positions, and a Middle Linebacker (Poz)normally thought of as the most important position on the defense.

While I don't mean to be argumentative, but that drafted was rounded out by Wendling, Schouman, and Ah You...

I, too, believe this was the best draft we've seen in my time following drafts (8-10 years). Granted, Poz, Lynch, and Edwards were potentially a great bunch - and certainly great positions to start buiding around. We could see the foundations for a great O-line, good secondary depth which could fill in in a few years for losses to F.A., and potentially a playmaker at D.E. It looks like we could have real explosive, pro bowl level talent at D.E., safety, and Guard. If they pan out, the first four picks could be that good, and maybe another three eventually starting. I read an article that the Bills team has one of the highest number of players on their starting roster developed through the draft, and considering we're a young team, that is all the better for us. Congratulations to Brandon and Company - and, this draft has a feel to it that is a bit more old school than some of our more recent drafts, which I'm thinking might be attributed to Buddy Nix. If he had a good deal of say in it, then I hope he sticks around for a few more years, because with another draft like this, we could have a contending team with a core of players under contract for three to four more years.

agreed

these guys could be almost as good as other highly touted premium picks like McCargo, Mike Williams & Hardy

let's see how they play with pads on before drafting their HOF induction speeches

Jarius Byrd was picked at the top of the second round, since when is that considered a later round?

I dont get the pick of Jarius Byrd if the plan all along was to move Whitner to free safety as we have been led to believe...why would you use a high second round pick on a CB that you plan on converting to FS when you already plan on moving your high salaried SS to FS, makes no sense....I understand depth but you dont draft for depth in the high second round especially when there were numerous other players on the board that could help the Bills this year

Jarius Byrd doesnt have a chance to start as long as Whitner is with the Bills and playing FS

It is because Whitner will play SS and Byrd will man the FS spot. The Bills draft talent over need meaning they took the highest rated player on their board. It just so happens they were in need of a guy in the back that can actually create some turnovers.

So much for guarded optimism, how's that half empty glass of B#&*Shite?

I think we've all earned the right to be optimistic after 8 years of no playoffs. At least there have been changes made, "positive ones at that", and that gives us,"glass half full" people some hope!!! You never hit on every draft pick, so give me a break :D

really? then why was Whitner on NFL total access recently talking about moving to free safety to get in position to make more plays and be a ball hawk?

and you're basing your thoughts on what? that you think you know what you're talking about

Direct quote from Whitner....

“I will get the opportunity to play free safety,” said Whitner. “Actually I probably won’t even stay at free safety because they drafted Jairus Byrd. They want him to play some free safety. Coach Fewell likes me at both, but they like him at free so we’ll see.”

Know what you are talking about before you come at someone like that.

An article from Chris Brown - "Which Rookies Will Start"

http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-3...44-3da5c8a3182b

Byrd will be on the field. If he is, he will play FS and Whitner will shift over. Think about it and it makes sense.

Can someone help me out here?

No. There's no use in demonstrating to someone that he or she is wrong only to then have them stubbornly stick to his or her erroneous point. Move on.
